Thanks for the feedback guys, i really rate N. Brown because he can rack up posessions as a midfielder/ lead-up player yet still manage to kick a few goals also, i feel he is a similar player to didak but slightly cheaper.

Also on the schammer selection, i saw his nab game against the tigers and saw just how hard at it he was. Looks like he'l be an integral part of the midfield and an in and under player who will get high tackles this year.

D. Kerr is at fantastic value IMO as he is only around the 300,000 mark compared to say bartel who is worth 500,000. Kerr is a quality player who had injury problems in 2008 but im sure we will all see kerr have a terrific season in 2009.

Hey guys this is my first draft, changes will no doubt be made. Any thoughts/tips/suggestions will be greatly appreciated :thumbsu:

Whose to say that the teams that everyone has been posting are their actual teams. I know for a fact that none of the teams I've posted in the 2 threads so far are anything near the team I'll be taking into round 1.

I reckon I've put around 10 teams up since DT opened and the only reason I do it is to try and help out newbies without giving away too much. There is no way in hell I would be taking the team that is the first post in this thread into round 1 despite it having a great potential first round score when looking at the Guru scores.

afl16 please explain to me why p.burgoyne and daniel kerr are not good value. and why nathan g brown is someone you would get rid of??

also i think schammer is an interesting pick. something unique, its good to see someone not just copying teams of these threads.

As i said for players in organge i think there is better value out there. Getting P.Burgoyne at 380k is a massive risk for a player who is very injury prone and IIRC highy inconsistent. Especially when you have players like goddard, fisher, enright, shaw, lockyer around the same price.

Kerr is primarily a judgement call, often gets suspended and injured. Could possibly be a low end keeper, if all goes well. I think kerr was priced about the same last year as well. I don't see him moving his price and hence scoring upwards this year either. I'd prefer to either spend the extra $ to get to say chris judd or even more to the ABC. Or you can go the other way to haselby or a rookie.

Probably a bit harsh on N.Brown, I just see him a bit like richo. Wonderful player when there up and going, but injury is always around the corner. He anit gettin any younger...

Do i really need to justify byron shammer? Yeah sure its an unique pick, but thats not what its about really is it? You want the best team regardless of popularity. Not too say that the popular players are the best (ala N.Jones last year).

Schammer is a good unique pick averaged 85 in his last 12 games in 2008. He has taken over Bells role in the team. I think he can at least maintain that form this season.

On Kerr I would be worried that he struggles with a tight tag, I think he will continue to be down on scoring until the other midfielders around him improve. Also I would be worried that he may get another suspension if he is frustrated.

Is it worth downgrading ABC to bolster the forward line?

I'd take out one of ABC and bolster your forward stocks definitely.

Okay, I've downgraded Bartell to Gibbs...now my forward line looks like:

Deledio, Roughead, Ebert, Robertson, Higgins, Lucas, Yarran (Walker, Ballantyne).

Better? (wasn't sure who to upgrade, really - they could all do with some work ;)) Got 32k to play with still...

Struggling for back rookies. Apart from the two Freo kids who else are contenders..?
Alex rance and Rory Sloane are the only good chances to play imo but you could spend a bit more and get grimes for 160 i think or hurley for 135.

Heres my latest team....forwards are weak but hoping that a grant/gumbleton can get 50 points each, and Id take that from my 6tha nd 7th forwards. Same applies to Raines and Hill in defence.

Midfield: Corey, Swan, Murphy, Dal Santo, T Selwood, Rich
(Beams, Robinson)

That's a pretty decent downgrade to Gibbs; i know i say it all the time, but he's going to be a DT star this year. :D

I'd say your forward line could still do with a little more improvement, particularly in regards to Ebert and Robertson. Neither player is going to be consistantly pulling in big scores, nor do i see them averaging anything over 60-70. For two players that are considered your 3rd and 4th choice forwards, you'd be expecting them to pull in bigger numbers.

I've always gone with the philosophy that you should create your squad mindful that you try and select three quality 'keepers' for each position area, and at the very least one out of the two for the ruck. These guys are considered premiums and will sustain a high average of upwards of 80. Doing so will ensure you have strong players in each field area, strengthening your overall side from the outset and save you trades on the amount of keepers you have to upgrade to throughout the year. So ideally, in your situation, to go with Deledio and Roughead, i'd try and swap either one of Ebert or Robertson for another premium forward so that you have 3 high scoring 'keepers'.

B: Hodge, Goddard, Chad Cornes, Drummond, Begley, J W Smith, S Hill (Rance, Suban)

C: Abblett, Gibbs, Judd, Hasleby, Rich, Ziebell (Muston, Swift)

R: Cox, McIntosh (Leuenberger, Currie)

F: Pavlich, Deledio, Petrie, Brennan, Brett Ebert, S Lucas, S Higgins (Ballantyne, Grant)

Nice looking team.

One or 2 changes I'd suggest for you...

Get rid of Brett Ebert - with a highest season average of 67.1 he doesn't represent much value. I would be looking to trade him down to maybe Yarran or Houlihan. If you go to Yarran, it frees up about $120k which you could use (and this is just one example of many combinations) to upgrade Petrie, Brennan and Judd to Gia, Steve Johnson, and Cross/Kornes (depending on your remaining cash). If you go to Houlihan, you would be getting better value than Ebert and about an extra $9k. Or you could use the cash saved to get rid of Begley - highest average of 48.9 in 3 seasons, wouldn't be guaranteed a spot in the Saints 22 so is a waste of $199k. Have a look at Raines, Hurn or even L Fisher. So Begley and Ebert would be your 2 main concerns.

Just a thought to help you out.

Backs: Fisher, Goddard, Cornes, Enright, Malceski, Houlihan, Raines (Suban, Petrenko)

Mid: Corey, Swan, Kornes, Hasleby, Hill, Rich (Anthony, Robinson)

Ruck: Cox, McIntosh (Currie, Orreal)

Fwd: Pavlich, Deledio, Harvey, Lucas, Higgins, Skipworth, Yarran (Gumbleton, Ballantyne)

My thoughts...

Backline - Going for a no rookies starting line-up as there's not really any that stand out to play consistently. Even Hill is no guarantee, so I've gone the safer option. Also believe there's a bit of value in Mal, Houli and Raines to go with 4 premiums.

Mids - Loaded up with 3 premiums, 1 mid in Hase, and 2 rookies. Hill an Rich look like they'll play a bit, but look to have some decent backup with Anthony and Robinson. I believe there's some decent rookies so I don't mind starting 2 in here. Always like to get a good few absolute guns from the start in here. Last year I had Swan, Thompson and Ablett from the start, and then upgraded my mid-rangers to Corey, Kornes and Bartel so I'm keeping this strategy for the mids.

Rucks - Cox as usual, HMac as good value, and two Sydney rookies - Currie looks like playing, and if he gets injured or dropped, then Orreal may get a look-in but not expecting anything from 4th ruck.

Forwards - A lot of value in the mid-rangers and rookie priced players. Still aimed to get 3 premiums, but happy to start with Yarran and have Gumby as a backup. Lucas and Higgins should get in most teams, and I'd say if Skippy plays from round 1 a lot of people will get on him. He was in my team from the start, with my only main concern being is he in the best 22. It looks like he will be...

Thoughts?

Backs: Goddard, Newman, Lockyer, Houli, adcock, mundy, hill (rance trengrove).
Mids: j.selwood, sewell, judd, cousins, reilly, rich, (sidebottom, swift)
Rucks: cox, petrie. (cordy, bailey)
Forwards: Pav, Gia, skipworth, m.morton, edwards, higgins, yarran (m.brown,ballantyne).
with 75000 to spare
any thoughts on upgrades or changes. especially in the forwards.

I'd take out Cordy because the word is he won't be playing this year.
