I think these need to go in the Delusional Pearlers thread.

If Carlisle makes way for Pears, it's because he's very, very stiff. Not because he was our poorest performer...what tosh.

As for the Monfries comment...Get used to this:

HF: Monfries - ....

On a Thursday night, for the remainder of his career.

Anyone who misses out will be stiff. No one played a bad game. Fact is that we have some good players coming back over the next few weeks and someone is going to miss out.

I guess we will find out at selection

Thought Carlisle played on Darling?

Not sure we'd take a defender out for a forward. My likely to be either Colyer/NLM or one of those Pears type injuries which was kept under the radar.

Unlikely to drop NLM being the Dreamtime game.

Re: Changes vs Richmond

ask yourself this, if you were going to tell him

A) Son you''ve been a member since before you were born.

B) Son you've been a memeber since the day you were born.

then think which one he would want to tell his mates,

and then make your decision, personally i think the best one would be "when i was being born my dad was down the bombershop signing me up as a member" (im not sure how youd get away with that one???)

FWIW I'd prefer "you've been an Essendon member since the day you were born". The son telling that to his mates for many years later would bring a glisten to the eye and a sense of great pride.

From the Richmond preview thread...

Essendons midfield still looks pretty crappy on paper to me ,this is the area we can exploit them imo.

Bellchambers and watson will not enjoy the grunt of maric and tuck .

Can see cotch and martin smashing who ever they put on em.

grigga in a shootout with stanton should break even.

lids and foley there a few more wins.

the rest of ess mids dont matter(who r they?).

Yep...

And in nearly every single statistical category that ranks midfields, we outrank them.

Not to mention we're 2nd... and they are 12th.

It's actually hilarious how delusional they are about their side and how little respect they are showing to us. They are talking as if they are the Brisbane of 2001-2003.

There midfield is full of gun individuals our midfield is its own team working for each other. Thats why we have been winning this year.

not sure why i, and so many other bomber fans are nervous about this one.

we shouldn't be really. i feel that anything they can do, we can do better right now. i think they have a similar look to us about them to be honest, but maybe a year behind us

* young, developing defence (but they have no fletcher/glue holding them together)
* emerging midfield (i feel we run harder both ways and have a harder edge in contested footy and tackling)
* forwardline - we have hurley, crameri and ryder/bell vs jroo, vickery and miller. we have jetta/davey vs nahas and pushup king. i feel we have the advantage there too.
* ryder/bell in the ruck vs Ivan is surely a massive win for us. even cox last week was outstanding, but he still tired and we got a hold of them in the middle. maric is no cox.

if hurley is struggling up forward though, and jack is playing well, do we flick hurley back to try and destroy him like he did last year?

their x-factors are Martin up forward, Vickery (disappointingly beat fletch last year) and their defence. i think their defence looks improved, but if we can press up on them like west coast, i can see rance, houli, morris coughing it up more often than not

should win by 4-5 goals, but i feel it could be closer than that. very much looking forward to a big saturday night game at the 'G!

Trust me, I get it. I feel the same way. But for the reasons I've listed in my post above, we really shouldn't be. The game isnt played on paper though.

Just got to get the win, because I'm not worried about the next 3 after that.

Hey guys, I definitely think that this is going to be one cracker of a game. I really like how you guys are going about your footy and think you'll go far into the final series, both teams have played excellent football and I really think it will be about who shows up on the day.

I personally think the game will be won solely in the midfield.

Watson V Tuck: Whilst most of you would think that this is going to be a clear victory to Jobe, I suggest watching the Sydney game, Tuck belted Kennedy. It will be a very interesting match-up.

Hocking v Cotchin: Whilst I believe that Hocking is an excellent tagger, Cotchin always seems to dominate against your mob. He won the Yiooken award last year and hasn't lost his form either.

Martin v Lonergan: I think this will be a great match up. Lonergan comes across as a player who really relishes a contest and will strive against the strength of Martin.

Stanton v Grigg: Only head to head, both are outside running players who can find the ball. Stanton has a much bigger motor and if both players are left unguarded, they can be equally as damaging.

Anyways, will be a great match and I personally think that the Tigers will get over the line in the thriller. But then again, I've never tipped against my own side. :D

Just curious, do you see Hurley playing up back or forward? He thrashed Riewoldt the last time we met but Rance is the most in-form KPD in the competition at the moment.

hmm
king, nahas, jackson edwards, miller and vickery to be rushed back in. a bloke whos got it about 4 times a game so far this yr and thats before injury. to many duds essendon should win easy.

Good to know that 'Gus remains a whipping boy even when doing his job and getting votes from the coaches.

It's a shame!!!!!
GUS is a great hit up from the goal square forward!!!!!

He is also adding to our depth further afield!!!!!

And I suggested to my Carlton supporting workmate that he should've locked down Harry O in the ANZAC game as a defensive forward (which is where he was moved to after half time!!!!!)

MONFRIES is playing well, and is very versitile!!!!!

He stays in the team!!!

Carlsle out for Hurley, technically is like for like!!!!!

Def - forward / Forward - defender

IMHO Carlisle looks lost!!!!!

He needs to play 3 - 5 games up the one end!!!!! Make a position his own!!!!!

Our team of no names go OK!!!!!

TeamWork & effort go a long way to great team football, Sat night will be a big test for our team!!!!!

Can't wait to see how we stack up against the 9thers!!!!!:D

We should be nervous about the game - Richmond is a decent team - Nowhere near fantastic - And they are fairly much injury free.

Our best is better than their best - So all things being equal - should win by 22 points.

Dont change the defensive structure of the team, we've been playing with 3 talls in defense all year and our defense is doing very well, Hurley comes in for someone else (unlucky for that person), If you think Carlisle looks lost then Pears comes in for him. They'll line up with Three tall's up forward although some a spuds, we need talls to cover them, even if they line up with 2 talls, it will free up Fletcher.

See no reason to drop Carlisle. He'd have conceded no more than 3 or 4 goals since he's come up and he has that uncanny knack of picking the right time to run off, and gets far up enough to ping a shot or two of his own.
Stupid to cut a tall defender from a backline who conceded about 8 goals, total, to their men across the last 3 weeks.

Martin v Lonergan: I think this will be a great match up. Lonergan comes across as a player who really relishes a contest and will strive against the strength of Martin.
Lonergan doesn't have the legs to go with Martin, and he'd be wasted following Martin back.

Yeah we shouldn't drop Carlisle. He kept Darling very quite last weekend and as Slatts said above the defence has been rock solid lately so it should stay the same. If that means Pears has to play VFL then so be it.

Carlisle didn't keep Darling quiet. It was more of team effort.
If Carlisle is to get the job on Reiwoldt then he cant be doing the soft half hearted punches he was doing against West Coast. Maybe he's been to told not to get into wrestling match and keep his distance (a bit of Fletch influence maybe) but when he is coming in for a punch from behind he cant be afraid to really slam his body against his opponent at the same time as punching the ball.
