Quite happy to be continually underrated and prove them all wrong.

Bring on Saturday. Go Dons! :thumbsu:

The only time I've tipped against Essendon this year is on Anzac day. If we bring in both Pears and Hurley for a tall and small, then I will tip Richmond.

Richmond's run from their gun players is the only thing that can beat us.

We're in pretty good shape this time, compared to 12 months ago...

Players that are available this week, that missed last year's game:

Watson
Hurley
Hocking
Dempsey
Pears
Carlisle
Colyer
Dyson

Players not available this week, that did play in last year's game:

Hille
Hibberd

Likely side compared to last year will have (roughly matched up to position)

In: Hurley, Watson, Hocking, Dempsey, Carlisle, Dyson;
for
Out: Hille, McVeigh, Reimers, Slattery, Myers, Hibberd;

The first 4 are all in our best 10-12 - huge wins for us.
The last two, despite being "best 22", are no massive loss IMHO given how Dyson & Carlisle have come on.

Surely Pears will come in for Carlisle if he is fit,

Ehh.... thought Carlisle was pretty good on the weekend.

I'm less interested in how different the team is to last Dreamtime, and more how we're not really going to be losing anyone coming off the previous game. We're not losing our two best midfielders from the week before, surely that puts us in some sort of good stead.

I think I'd be looking forward to this game as a neutral, actually. It's a pretty interesting matchup.

There's not much between them, on form this year. Both been steady, but unspectacular.

That is true, but if the tigers bring in Vickery which they have to if they want to win, I think Pears extra experience will be valuable to defend the Riewoldt and Vickery combo.

Vickery's averaging 2 marks a game and less than a goal before he was dropped.
I'd probably prefer the rangier Carlisle on him anyway.
If we were going to bring Pears in, it would've been for Darling.

I have a gut feeling that Crammers will get a big bag on Saturday night. With Hurley back, he won't have the best defender going to him (Grimes?), and I think he will have his kicking boots on and slot 7-8.

Carlisle was ok last week but arguably our weakest performer. Pears is much more agile which suits out game style.

In. Hurley, Pears
Out. Carlisle, Colyer or Monfries

NLM as Sub

We should win this one but Tigers always pull out their best performance when they play us. We need to ensure our intensity around the contest continues.

I'm going with 4 mates who are all tigers so I hoping the Bombers will be at their best.

Not sure if serious....????

Playing a selfless role taking the oppositions most attacking defender out of the game each week, still playing a reasonable hit up role and is often getting amongst the goals. Can also provide a chop out in the midfield.

Will not be dropped unless injured.

Who did he take out last week? Waters and Hurn both had reasonable games.

Someone in the forward line needs to make room for Hurley. Everyone else has been way more damaging and imo Monfires decision making and intensity hasn;t been up there with other players.

Coyler will probably go first but no way should Monfries be guaranteed a spot every week.

My memory has Waters having a pretty quiet game until swung forward late where he picked up a fair chunk of his 18 disposals and hit the scoreboard. Hurn also only had 14 possessions which for an attacking HBFer isn't much.

So who do you suggest plays a defensive forward role? With the exception of Winders at the start of last year Monfries has performed the role far and away better than anyone else in the team.

If he was not performing his job within the team and performing it well I'd agree but I don't see it this way.

Surely the whole forward press is playing the defensive role. Our tackling and defensive pressure has been a team role.

Who else isn't performing their role? Fighting for spots is going to be tough.

Good to know that 'Gus remains a whipping boy even when doing his job and getting votes from the coaches.

Not really giving him a whipping, never have.

As previously mentioned who isn't doing their job? With players coming back someone needs to make room. It's probably going to be Colyer this week but if Dyson, Davey and Lonergan keep performing then it's going to make things harder for some of the other blokes.

When did Monfries get the coaches votes btw?

I take your point on the forward press being a team role, but Monfries takes it a step further when we're in possession by taking key play makers or intercept markers/3rd man up players away from the contest giving our key forwards a better chance 1:1 and our crumbers more of a chance to rove the loose ball.

Best example - ANZAC Day. Before half time O'Brien does as he likes. 2nd half Monfries takes him away from the play and we don't see him again, getting ourselves back into the contest in the process.

It's a thankless role but he does it well.

Like I said in an earlier post, for me it is simply Hurley in, Colyer out, NLM as sub. If Pears has to come back in, Carlisle misses out through no fault of his own.

Carlisle kept Lynch to 11 touches, 4 inside 50's and 0 goals, 0 behinds. That's a fair effort, considering he got more touches and outscored him (Yes, I know he only got 2 points but still)

We keep Carlisle and don't bring in Pears. Drop Colyer for Hurley. Simple

Hi guys

Just a quick question regarding tickets, does anyone have any tickets better than the ponsford that are selling ?

thanks

Greatly assisted by our press and the defensive efforts of the rest of the team.

I don't recall Carlisle being one out with Lynch at any moment during the game.

As I said he did play a good game, I just think a fit pears is a better fit for our game style.

I think these need to go in the Delusional Pearlers thread.

If Carlisle makes way for Pears, it's because he's very, very stiff. Not because he was our poorest performer...what tosh.

As for the Monfries comment...Get used to this:

HF: Monfries - ....

On a Thursday night, for the remainder of his career.

Pears has to play in the magoos, prefer Carlisle getting a regular crack before pears. Havnt been impressed with him at all this season.

We just need the one change of hurley in for Trav or NLM, Normally dyson would be first dropped but his playing career best footy.
