Driver whinging has to stop

It's proven that cognitively kids can't be trusted to cross the road until they are 10-12 years old, due to their unpredictability.
Even if that's true, then why are you letting your kids run free near a street until that age?

Even if it is complete BS and revenue raising, it's a voluntary donation.

Ask a mechanic who calibrates speedos for taxis. Ask someone caught on camera 2 meters past the posted sign after leaving a freeway. Ask someone caught on going downhill a few k's over. Have a look at parliamentary inquiries onto police traffic operations, all states have them and the police chiefs freely admit they're driven by budget issues. Read how most police forces are on a performance based bonus system. Read the emails recently leaked in SA about police being urged not to caution motorists because of budget pressures.

I hate it too, apparently there was a state-wide 'crackdown' by Vicroads to lower many 90km/h zones to 80 km/h, and many 70km/h zones to 60km/h, to "reduce confusion for drivers"

So now in Geelong there is the farcical situation where we have a double-lane, split road arterial highway in the Bellarine Highway that laughably operates at 80 km/h each way when it is capable of having cars drive 100km/h on it quite easily. But of course the relevant parties would rather lower the limit then actually fix the roads if a pothole were to appear.

I don't condone speeding, but I do dislike the manner in which limits are decided. Frankly, it's the slow drivers on the roads that cause more accidents than the drivers who do 10 km/h over

I work at VicRoads, can confirm this is indeed true and the Bellarine Highway was lowered to 80 to comply with 90 km/h zones being phased out (as it was previously). There were no issues when it was 100 km/h, so don't ask me why. Guess they may have been concerned with new housing developments in Leopold and the increase in traffic.

A similar thing happened some time ago with the Princes Highway from Melbourne to Geelong, which was 110 km/h as a 2-lane road until John Cain came in as premier and decided to lower speed limits. It was then upgraded to 3 lanes 10 years ago and remained at 100 despite other freeways having higher limits (there is a possibility, however, that it may be increased again). The rationale isn't quite right.

Otherwise, there are certain criteria that determine speed limits along different roads. It's mostly valid IMO, but there are certain grey areas in said criteria that can cause situations similar to those above. Will explain in further detail later.

Just got home and open some mail and boom a $247 fine for apparently parking in the bike lane
Oh shit. I parked in one yesterday without knowing that I couldn't (there were other cars there too). You from Victoria?

Nah Adelaide. I had to run into a post office that day to pay a bill and I got caught but there wasn't a bicycle sign on the side.

$247! fine! Daylight robbery!

Ridiculous amount to pay tbh, shocking.

I was parked at one all yesterday afternoon, but there were no signs saying that I couldn't and nothing online saying I can't.

Hopefully I get lucky

You should get off

I requested a photo to see where I went wrong. If you get caught you should too :)

Speed regularly, only been caught 3 times in 12 years. I see speeding fines as nothing more than a minor 'freedom tax' I'm willing to pay for the freedom to drive at the speed of my choosing. The cameras are very easy to spot anyway.

What do you gain from regularly speeding?

Driving up to Perth yesterday I was thinking that it's kind of ridiculous that parts of the hills getting towards the city are 100-110 km limit yet roads towards Kalgoorlie that are flat and almost dead straight are the same speed limit. Should be at least 120 out there and 90 through the winding hills with big trees either side of the road.

All drivers have always been free to :

Keep going through a stop/ give way sign

Keep driving through a red light

Drive the wrong way on a one way street

Drive on the wrong side of the road

Speed as fast as you want

Do whatever the hell you want as you drive your car

“I am sorry my decisions do not meet with your approval, but nevertheless, they are mine, and the consequences are also mine.”

Is this what we want on our roads ?

My nephew still had nine months to go on his loss of license. On the weekend he drove a friend's car, had an accident in it, made the police chase him with him on two rims and is currently in hiding. On the bright side he made the local radio news.

I love my family.:$
