I am on record on this board as saying that Burns would be the better recruit out of the two, and so far so true.
Burns played a good game. Keep him injury free, and he will be much more than useful.
Biglands. Boy there has been a lot said about him on this board lately. Why did we get rid of him? Someone else can answer that.

To borrow a line from the Simpsons... Err, are you being sarcastic, man?

. And he cant lift his arms above his head anymore it seems.

Which begs the question, where have you been for the last 7 years? That’s how long it has been since he took an overhead mark.

The surgeon wanted to ensure that the shoulder would never pop out again, so he deliberately restricted the amount of rotation in the shoulder.

Whilst Carey wasn't good, I doubt Tredrea would have taken a mark with the up and under delivery he had to him all night. Sitting under a dropping ball is no way for a forward to have an impact.

I think we're expecting too much from Carey.... Supporters, Players and Coaching staff , you need to remember he's been out for a whole year . To expect him to be a Dominant forward with-in his first month and a bit of footy is unrealistic, I recon he's putting too much pressure on himself.... see how he's travelling in another month's time before you jump to any sort of conclusions.
As for last nights game...... there are probalbly only a couple of players that could walk of the ground pleased with their performance.. to blame Carey is wrong, the delivery into the forward line was the worst its been for quite a while, and I'm not sure what Ayersy and his coaching staff were doing .

If it is the case that Carey isn't playing well because of form, then drop him back to the SANFL to get that form back. It happens to every other player, why not him? I don't think it's co-incidence Perrie's form fell away when Carey came into the side.

He was terrible last night. He dropped a very easy chest mark. He was too slow. He barely even went up in contents. And to top it off, because he was frustrated he started throwing punches.

Watching the game again this morning, the Crows are just far too Carey reliant.

How many times did you kick towards Carey tonight? I reckon 4 outta every 5 times you went forward you looked for him. And 4 out of 5 times he didnt get near the ball.

Same thing happened in Round 1, about 75% of your forays forward you looked towards him.

Hes definatley not as good as he once was. How slow is he? Hes slower than a mack truck trying to go up a steep hill while starting in 3rd gear. And thats probably his one downfall at the moment. Contests that he once could get into, and break open the pack and sometimes take a team lifting mark...nowadays he cant get to the pack at all.

Dunno about dropping him. But would be strange. Probably the two biggest traded names in the offseason look like being dropped - Carey and Pickett!

We do need Welsh back, i totally agree with you. Actually thats an understatement we REALLY REALLY need Welsh back. I always thought he was great at keeping the ball inside our 50 with his tackling skills. Hopefully he will be back soon, we need him up there.

Carey should only be dropped if he's injured.

Fact is the service to him all night was terrible... our forward line was congested and our midfield was slaughtered.

I had a concert of morons around me (Crows 'fans') bagging him everytime he made a mistake - which could've been anything from dropping that chest mark - WHICH HE MADE AMENDS FOR BY WINNING THE BALL AND PASSING TO A TEAM-MATE INSIDE FIFTY - to leading too far up the ground to standing back and getting the ball kicked over his head.

Carey made a contest all night, tried to move and as usual busted packs and brought the ball to ground - it's not his fault Roger James, Nick Stevens, Josh Carr and Wanganeen actually bothered to crumb and do some work and we couldn't exploit this.

Three quarters of the side turned in a p1ss-weak performance last night - a selection:

Goodwin - so far from his AA form it's not funny. 25 touches last night but how many were damaging?
Ricciuto - Was useless.
Clarke and Biglands - Were outclassed by Dean Brogan who is developing into a class ruckman. Yes they got hitouts but around the ground both took less marks and had 2 more possessions combined than the ex-36er.
McLeod - Love the bloke - but Kane Cornes touched him up and made him ineffective.
Stevens - Where, who, what, why?

But let's bag Carey eh? He's a convenient scapegoat.

Well I hate to send shockwaves, but I waited for the players to come out after the game last night (after I had my little conversation with Brent Reilly) and Wayne was limping quite heavily, it was very obvious. He didnt look to good.

Goodwin had a bag of ice and I over- heard him talking to this woman and he said that he hurt his ankle a little bit, and it was sore so he needed some ice.

Unfortunately the King is moving like the "tin man" from the Wizard of Oz - he needs a bit of oil to get rid of the rust.

That only comes from more game time.

Part of me says he's finished, but, write of a street wise champ "with tricks" at your peril.....

Wait till the grounds get slower and we head into months of June & July when his nous & body strength will be more of a factor. The grounds are too fast for him at the moment. He can only paticipate once in a contest at present and the ball is swept away from him.......

Let's not overreact people....as some have said, it was his fourth/fifth game back from a year off, he's not the same player he was, never will be, and a week in the SANFL won't change that. I don't see how a week with the Roosters will help at all.....if he has a another quiet one there, his confidence will be further shattered. You do not drop champions like Carey, he needs more AFL game time, a reassurance that he's still going to be one of our key targets and more importantly, better delivery from the midfield (and it's not like Hentschel, Rutten et al are going to be any better in our forward line at this stage).

The King is a big game player, he might not have shown that last night but he will rise to the occasion in the coming weeks. Let's have some faith.

Oops...sorry...:D

bloody hell some of you are a bit tough!

Let me first say this - I was not happy with last night, in fact I am as mad as hell we can't crack them.

However

Don't blame Wayne Carey for us loosing last night. We as a team played terribly - nobody and I mean nobody could be expected to to perform in our forward line when all our midfielders did all night was bomb it long to a congested forward line. They flooded back and gave us no room to move. It is way too easy for you all the jump on the "lets blame Wayne" bandwagon. Give him a break and don't expect miracles every week.

Plus our CHF was left on the bench for way too long last night - I am not sure how Stevo is ment to kick goals sitting on the pine and my mail is he was not injured other than the knee he has been carrying all year. I am at a loss to understand this move.

What the hell was Roo doing? He left his brain in the locker room I think. He gave away so many free kicks for undisiplined acts, I am glad Gazz had the balls to drag him. He needs to put his head down, bum up and get the ball not go crashing through the packs like a loose cannon all night. I would expect a better game from him this week.

I am not going to disect the whole team but across the board we were woeful. Not one player, but almost all players were below par.

CAREY

Well as far as last night goes
the whole forward line got
beaten until Burns injected some life!!!

As far as Carey goes this was the gamble
you took at the start of the year!!!

He needs at least half a season to get going
but i must admit how slow he looks at present!!!
As a North supporter i hope he doesnt play
could you guys deal with Mcleod in a Roo jumper!!!!

Your much vaunted midfield didnt deliver
well to the forwards!!!
(i doubt you will let this happen 2 weeks in a row!!!}
This will be the test for with good delivery
it may bring out the best in Wayne!!!

Cant wait for Friday nite!!!!

Over + out

Remember in the corresponding match last year Ayres left Schell on the bench for the entire match...not even giving him 1 minute on the ground. I thought that was strange as well, but Mark is a lot better footballer than Schell is. If Mark wasnt or isnt injured, then you gotta say its a very odd move to leave your no.1 tall forward on the bench for 69 out of the 115 minutes played (goin by the Advertiser). You could have done with him as none of your other talls were causing any trouble to us.

Baffling indeed!

Full credit to the scums pressure. Most were rushed too.

Biglands, Perrie, Carey, Torney & Ladhams (I think it was Ladhams) all missed comparitively easy set shots from 35m out or less, not much angle, on a still night.

Half of those shots made, Crows would have won.

You come up with this EVERY single time you lose to us. Every single time you come up with the 'if so and so and so and so had have kicked goals we would have won'. Everytime without fail. Doesnt work that way. I bet i can come up with 2-3 gettable goals that Port should have got as well. Like Tredreas shot after Burgoynes bump. Or Cornes's dropped mark and point in the third. But im sure like youve said the last 4 times...only Adelaides easy misses count

Its a very simplistic way of looking at things and i hate when people work it out like this. You just cant say if we had have kicked 4 of those goals we would have won. You cant just add the 4 goals on to the total score. Why? Because its a brand new game. If Ladhams kicked that goal in the 2nd quarter, whos not to say Port wouldnt have kicked the next 7 goals? The ball goes back to the centre and its a brand new game. You cant just add on 4 goals to your total and say you would have won. Doesnt work that way. You kick a goal, you go back to the centre, and then the match changes direction totally. Everything after your first 'easy miss' becomes void because nothing after that would have occured in the match had you kicked a goal. Or do you simply think that had those 4 players kicked those 4 goals the rest of the game would have been played out exactly the same...with the only difference that youd have 4 more goals?? Dream on.

My point exactly about the first half of the 98 grand final......yet everyone keeps saying how if the Kangas had kicked straighter.....
