Conte blows the whistle on Jones [04/12/04]
The three-times Olympic champion's career teeters on the brink after Balco's owner breaks his silence and goes on the attack in doping scandal [Guardian, UK]

American way is whatever it takes to win [04/12/04]
In one corner of California, prosecutors in the Balco investigation are trying to blow the lid off the biggest steroids scandal in US history. In another, a grass-roots political movement is endeavouring to change the country's constitution so that the Austrian-born governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, arguably the most famous self-confessed steroid-user in the world, can one day run for president [Guardian, UK]

Baseball slugger Bonds 'unwittingly' used drugs [04/12/04]
Barry Bonds, the US's most popular baseball player, has admitted using steroids manufactured by Balco, though he claimed he took them unwittingly, writes Duncan Mackay [Guardian, UK]

I don't think there's any room for drugs in sport. In fact I am totally against drugs whatsoever.

Has Barry Bonds alleged taking of drugs in the past tarnished his attempts on one of the most untouchable records in major league baseball (755 home runs) which he should overtake in '06.

What are your opinions?

Its very hard to get excited these days on any records that are broken..yes nutrition and training will improve times but some of the speed/endurance records are tainted IMO.

Barry Bonds like Shane Ware and Murali will have an asterisk next to his name indicating some sort of outside influences. Barry Bonds records have improved 22% since his 34th birthday indicating to me that outside influences have helped him achieve better performances

Is Balco the tip of the iceberg? And is it illegal after the fact? Remember that what Balco supplied its athletes in the strict sense of the drug code werent illegal till after they competed.

Recreational drugs in certain sports could be a huge ratings winner & bring back crowds to sports much in the same way Happy Gilmore did to golf.........

* Snooker - with alcohol & joints (see absolutely wasted dudes attempt ridiculous shots)

* Snow Boarding (plenty of hooch - preferably as they are performing their stunts - that would be waaaaay cool).

* Darts (must have a pint in one hand & dart in the other - one pint downed per series of 3 darts thrown)

* 4 X 400 meter relay (instead of a baton swap, you begin by smoking a bong, running the 400 meter lap, end up at the smoking table, pack a cone for the next runner & process continues....)

I'm sure some sort of 4 yearly olympic style games could be arranged in Amsterdam if anyone could be bothered following that through.
