It was a different time and game back then but that was a thugs act sorry. Even today reading between the lines you can tell he lost the plot and did something stupid. Somerville was an easy target.

Few years later one of our own was on the end of something similar with more severe consequences. Wright wasnt any different to O'Dea really.

Sorry Duncan

This is what I was kind of thinking with John Greening. I know supporters that absolutely loath the Saints for it. No different at all.

Yeah it didn't sound great... Hopefully the part about them making up later in life is true and not just some overplayed fluff to give the article some more spice.

Played local footy against his grandson Billy Hogan last year. Pretty good footballer.

Interesting article though. It seems hits behind the ball back in the day were treated pretty seriously to have the police start an investigation.

Still get Police investigations in some country leagues now.

Wacks behind the play are pretty common still. I had a number of occasions behind play when guys would try 'put you off your game'. Although that is going back a few years now. But you see it at local footy often when I head down to watch.

Duncan Wright did what Jimmy O'Dea did to Johhny Greening

Dog act....end of story. Bobby Rose "let him go" the next season I think.

We have goal umpires now who can report and red card players. They are usually in the best view of any behind the play whacks and its definitely a deterrent for players who think they can get away with it.

Really, so Greening was kicking and applying the squirrel grip hey?

My thoughts entirely. The only thing that you can say to support him is that king hitting the oppostion was systemic in all of footy at the time. It even happened in under 15s. Everyone thought it was the manly thing to do.

Yep and I think O'Dea ended up a board member at St Kilda.

Not sayin' it wasn't a dog act ... but we've all got our tipping point ... Just ask Barry Hall.

I recall being on the end of a spear-tackle in a footy match; saw red, started throwing a few, looked up and it was a work colleague - true story.
