Time will tell how this will pan out. So far all the experts are the ones with egg on their face.

I'm pretty sure that every journalist is hoping that the Moulthouse, Buckley scenario goes pair shaped so that can turn around and say I told you so. As jernos there responsibility is report football stories based on facts not hypothetical’s which is what there basing their whole argument on. Why can’t they except that there is still a thing called loyalty and respect which Moulthouse has plenty of. Buckley will need help so I hope that he can call on Moulthouse in time of need.
He entered into a contract knowing full well what he was getting himself into. If our team wasn’t as good as it currently is then this would be a non story, but because we are a football powerhouse it’s now big news. How many coaches in the history of the game have had a tenure of greater than 10 years at any one club without the ultimate success? That’s what has happened at Collingwood and what’s more we gave him another 5 years.

Moulthouse understands what the club is about after all he has worked hard with McGuire over the past 12 years to ensure that Collingwood has a bright future. Hopefully before he is done we will have the same aurora that Manchester United has in English football.

It was going so well, then you had to mention them :D

EDIT: After watching after the bounce I'm taking the view that Dunstall's words have been taken out of context. From what I remember on the show he said that "we had done it 8 or so years ago and it hadn't been successful, then the subeditor thought it would make for a better story this way..." or something along those lines.

Yeah after the bounce. 100% sure his words were taken out of context. Never heard dunstall really say much wrong against the pies. Seems to be one of the least hateful media personalities when it comes to collingwood!

Sorry.... I hate them as well but at the end of the day they find a way to win championships. You have to respect that.

I agree with that. Dunstall does show a fair bit of respect towards most teams and is the least biased of the media personalities out there.

Where were Hawthorn on the ladder when it "didn't work out for Schwab"?

I dont think it is a similar situation at all.

As for Dunstall being non-biased, I think in his role as a TV host he is pretty good, but get him on radio and he has smashed Collingwood in the past.

I remember him on several occasions after a Collingwood loss saying he couldnt wait for all the ferals to ring in and he makes it blatantly obvious to everyone that he loves when the Pies lose.

I love it when you hear commentators say that. Just reinforces how good we are.

The best is when you're leaving the 'G after a good win and you hear opposition fans leaving, having a whinge. Saying how shit Collingwood are, how we're ferals and as long as we don't win the flag they'll be happy.

Makes me :D

Jason Dunstall is a director of the Hawthorn Football Club. His club is getting criticised for not renewing the contract of the current coach.

By mentioning Collingwood's situation, he deflects interest in his club's situation and undermines the position of the major contender for this year's premiership. The deflection is easy, because apart from Hawthorn supporters, no one really cares who the hell coaches Hawthorn next year.

Remember, when the Collingwood deal was done, there was NO WAY that Bucks and Mick could work together if Bucks returned to Collingwood. Of course, that story is dead in the water.

Like most smart operators, Dunstall tries to build up an air of being unbiased so that he can use it at key times. He is a director of the Hawthorn football club. Ask Dunstall if he would try to undermine a competitor's position in order to win the flag and he would say yes....of course he would.

As for the substance of what he said, look at it closely. At the time, Hawthorn had a lame administration and a lame coach...who got sacked soon after. They brought in an older coach to try to teach the lame coach a few lessons. It didnt work. This is completely different from the Collingwood situation...

I know this is a bit off topic but I agree. The amount of times I've heard him during live calls be biassed against the Pies makes me not like him. I even remember watching a game against 2 non Collingwood sides and they were talking about away strips (because one of the teams was wearing one that was all white or whatever that they didn't like) and he went on to bagging how Collingwood don't have an away jumper which went on for about a minute or more while bringing up completely irrelevant and bullshit reasons about how the Pies get away with everything in the AFL and get special treatment.

Dunstall is one of the few sensible people in the media. Don't know why people are upset at the speculation by the media towards Malthouse. When the Eagles were at their absolute peak in the 90's, Mick used the media & his contempt for them as an us against them. The more media articles doubting his role ensures there is no complacency.
