I think his career might be at the cross roads.

With Cam Cloke and Cain Ackland starting the NAB is such good form, and Hampson being named in the emergencies, do you think Dylan will play a major role this year at the Blues??

I think Cloke is more mobile and offers a lot of flexiblity, and Ackland is definatly our number 1 ruckman. imo, dylan may be wearing red a lot this year. :(

i don't know, but it would seem that it's about work.

Cloke seems to have worked so hard off the field and so hard on the field. Has Dylan worked as hard? Does anyone know the answer to this question?

If it's about work and Dylan hasn't worked as hard, then tough luck mate.

im pretty sure mclaren missed a large chunk of the pre-season with injury. however i think even if he had a full pre-season he still wouldnt be getting a game, as cloke has shown more in his 3 games so far then mclaren did all last year. not writing him off yet, but its defenately un uphill battle for him

Worked his ass off at Brisbane, and he had too, he was behind Keating, Charman and McDonald.

May lack natural ability but definately not work ethic and positive attitude.

I went out to Princes Park today to see the Ants play Box Hill, and Dylan did struggle.

Rotated between the ruck and Full Forward, and really did not have a huge influence over the game. Might have got a few tap outs, but had next to no influence around the ground.

When he was up forward, he at least provided a contest and bought the ball to ground, but at no stage did he ever look like taking a contested mark.

If I was a betting man, i'd be suggesting that his career at the Carlton Footy Club may be over at years end.

if it's just a lack of talent, then there's not much that can be done. He should be proud that he had the chance to play AFL and gave it his best.

BTW, let's all remember there's a fella with the name Aisaike (sp?) that's not very short. Could be our future?

Jeeez mate, I'd hate to see what you say about blokes who aren't your buddy in the buddy draft :p :D

Dylan always puts in 100% and gets to a lot of contests....if his hands were a bit stronger and cleaner today we would be saying he played a good game.

We both saw the same game Gilly. He had very little influence over the game.

The only way he will get a game is if either Cloke or Ackland get injured early on in the season, or if there is a severe loss of form.

Cloke and Acklad are easily better than McLaren. Not only do they time their jumps in the centre better, but they are MUCH more damaging around the ground, which is very important for a ruckman these days IMO.

If Cloke or Ackland go out due to form, injury or suspension, I think Dylan will come in to cover for them. If it's after approximately round 10, depending on our position on the ladder, we may see Hampson debut a bit earlier. If both our starting 2 ruckman are out for some reason, both McLaren and Hampson will get a game.

His days are numbered. Hampson, Aisake and Jacobs are the developing rucks, with Ackland and Cloke covering in the meantime. McLaren lacks height for a ruck, but unlike Ackland and Cloke, hasn't worked on other aspects of his game to compensate. This will be his last year, then off to Collingwood I guess. :)

Or Essendon. :)

No offence but hasn't his career been at the crossroads every year since he was drafted by the Lions? Every year he didnt quite make it, every year he ran out there. His career was at the crossroads last year and he only played what...9 games? Maybe 11?

At his height and speed he is permanently at the crossroads. He is from all reports a great bloke and tries very hard but...is that enough?

We're going to have to delist a few players come end of year... now seriously if we have to make way McClaren at this point in our club is a good chance...

not that I don't like him, but we're at a good position where we may have to delist someone not so bad off our list.

End of year we could have off our list;

Kouta (Retirement?)
Lappin (Retirement?)
Teague
McClaren

I don't know who else could be a certainty.

But with such a large amount of ruck stocks coming through who knows.

Add Saddington and Bannister to that list...
