Can we start talking them yet? ;)
In all honesty though we are an incredible young side. You'd have to think that we could only get better. Look at our spine - Brown, Reid, Pendles, Cloke, Dawes. Of that group Cloke is the 'old man' at 23 years 211 days.
Thank you Derek Hine, thank you Michael Malthouse, Eddie McGuire, Gary Pert, Nick Maxwell, Geoff Walsh..... and of course the great man Nathan Buckley!
Enjoy it guys we've been through hell but this is an unbelievable feeling - we did it. Let's do it again!

from personal experience, i'd hold some of these thoughts and just let the future play out.

anything can happen, hawthorn are a pretty good example of that. i'd say any MM team has too much mental strength to follow that path though.

Absolutely, even Hawthorn 08 can attest to that. I hope we back it up much better than they do. We certainly have the cattle.

This. He'll have them focussing on next year by the end of next week. And I bet he's already tweaking his strategy.

Hawthorn in 08 were no where near as young to us, so therefore they are not an apt comparison.

I'd compare us to the 93 bombers, or the 01 Lions, and one of those teams made a dynasty, while the other faded into obscurity.

I predict we will play in 5 grand finals over the next 10 years (this decade, 2010-2020), and if we can win 3-4 of those, then a dynasty can start to be talked about.

We have entered our most successful era since the 30's, mark my words.:thumbsu:

Not talking about dynasties, but the signs are promising.

Let's just hope we can stay focused.

To be honest, the MM - NB changeover will be a turning point, will see how the club handles it. We will be at our prime.

Also, salary cap pressures will intensify (ruined Essendon's great team after 2000), and we have to prevent WSYD from destroying our team ala GC and Ablett.

Still a few hurdles to pass before we can talk about dynasties.

Hope so Matty!
WCE in 06 would have been a major contender for a few years if their best two players didn't walk out or develop drug addiction. You'd imagine that's not going to happen with us.

As long as the boys don't rock up to preseason training looking like Shannon Cox did this preseason we might be a chance for 2011 ;)

That's it.

The boys hit the slops for a week and then hopefully get revved up by MM, Bucks and Co. about next years prospects and as a result play responsibly over their holidays.

We have quite a few players who do like a drink however, and this is where mental conditioning comes into it. Where self-control and the selection and maintenance of aims plays a big part.

The other thing working against us (and the Saints) is that we're not even deep into September, we're early into October, so we need to be extra precise in the way we lead into preseason, as other clubs already have the jump on us.

Do the right things, and giddy-up!

Spot On Mate - 2008 Hawks is a Great Example you think know they would at least won another Flag but they are Struggling in the Middle of the Table.

Just Depends the Mind Set of the Players next season and of course injuries

I like how Leigh Matthews summarized it when asked if Collingwood was on the verge of a dynasty on Gameday -

A dynasty are a retrospective view. You don't look forward to a dynasty, you look back on one.

Personally I don't think we can say we are 'starting' or 'will become' a dynasty rather then we have the potential to do so. We just have to follow in the footsteps of the Lions, Geelong or even Collingwood of old and learn the lessons of the Baby Bombers, Port Adelaide and the Hawks of recent years.

Even though they will hit it hard in the next few weeks, the group seem to be switched on and as we have witnessed have maturity beyond their years.

I think it comes down to if they really want to make history or are content with the one flag, and from what I've seen, this is just the beginning...

One has already begun fellas..
N.Buckley, 1 years as head coach and 1 year as an assistant with 2 premiership medallions to show for it..!

P.S Swannnyy got the only medal he really wanted so stick it up Carlscum!

I actually see Collingwood as not a young side, rather, well rounded with a good mix of youth and experience eg Jolly, Swan, Didak and Brown (Anvil) as experienced, Thomas, Pendelbury, O'Brien, Cloke, Shaw as mid range and then guys like Beams,Sidebottom and Reid as the youth. The only weakness that could be exposed is in the Ruck if Jolly goes down and Fraser is traded as I think Wood could struggle over 10-15 rounds as #1 ruck.

In sum, could definately go back to back (unfortunately for the rest of the comp!!)

Could be a big issue, but aren;t they looking at increasing it? It would definitely help us keep a core group together, especially in the first few years of the increase.
