Less than a month to go until one of the most important E3's in recent times. Let's kick things off with some pre E3 discussion.
Sony have been killing it at E3 for years. Will they continue their form of showing games not coming out anytime soon or will they put some of these titles in the spotlight and give us more details, including release dates? Games like Detroit, God Of War, Days Gone, Death Stranding, The Last Of Us 2, Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Expect all the big marketing deal games to be shown (Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, CoD) Red Dead Redemption 2 would be nice but Rockstar and E3 aren't words you'd see in the same sentence.
Whatever route they go, Sony are an absolute lock for a great show regardless.
Nintendo have a new console/handheld on the market that's off to a great start. As expected they won't be doing a live briefing but instead their own mix of pre recorded and live Treehouse demonstrations. Expect a big focus on Mario Odyssey, Arms and Splatoon 2 with the latter 2 already announced as having tournaments during E3. With only a few announced Nintendo developed games and a ridiculous amount of IPs sitting dormant, what will Nintendo reveal? and what has Retro been working on all this time?
This is a big E3 for Nintendo and they need to ride this Switch momentum with a killer lineup announced at E3, not in a random direct months later.
Microsoft haven't had a good start to 2017, let's be honest here. Their competition have been putting out a ridiculous amount of high quality exclusives and a new console, with Microsoft focusing on their services such as the recently announced Game Pass. There's this little thing called Project Scorpio that they've been cooking up behind the scenes and expect E3 to be entirely focused on all the important details as well as a first look at the console and improvements to games current and upcoming. Whilst the games have been lacking Microsoft do have a few unreleased titles at their disposal, expect Cuphead, Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves and a new Forza to showcase what the Scorpio can do. Phil has talked about focusing on 1st party games, let's see what they can deliver at E3.
After dominating most of last gen, Microsoft find themselves in an awkward position in the current market. This E3 is make or break for them, an aggressive Microsoft is good for the industry, not this weird stagnant one we have now. Definitely the most intriguing conference.
