After daring to dream once again how are my fellow St.Kilda brethren easing their pain?

This bottle of wild turkey should do the trick. :(

Carlton Draught has been a close friend today, but Jim (Mr Beam to some) has been calling my name for a couple of hours now.

Whilst the guys who I've watched many years of footy with are shattered (tears may be shed tonight I suspect), I can't help feeling proud.

We had 3-4 passengers (Holden - you might be on your own pal!!!), but geez there were some terrific efforts.

Poor Red Bull was going to challenge for the Norm Smith until his nose was almost inserted into his brain.

Humphrey has copped stick from many this year but was great.

Lukey Ball - super performance (notwithstanding the conditions suited him).

To all those who bagged Bakes this year ... well you know where you can go. Some pretty shameful posts for a true soldier and former B&F winner who puts it on the line every game and completely nullified Johnson.

I'm honestly not as heart broken as others seem to be.

I take my footy very seriously. Love looking into the draft and trade weeks, the VFL, all that. Keep an eye on a kid called Leigh Masters in the Bendigo TAC team next year by the way. Played seniors for Tyntynder in the country at 16! I watched him tear the Under-18's Grand Final apart last weekend as Tyntynder upset a Kerang team that had only lost 3 games over the past 2 seasons. The kid will be a gun.

As serious as I take it though I look at it for what it really is; Entertainment.

I have no control over the game. If we had won today it would've been awesome but, it wouldn't change my life at all. It's like a movie. I want the hero to win but it doesn't always happen.

We all still have to go to work on Monday. Pay our bills. Love our family. Football is a sideshow in life NOT the main event.

I feel for all those who are so emotionally invested in the team. I understand how deeply it would hurt but unless you rely on the club for financial support you shouldn't be too hurt by this.

If the team had won today it wouldn't enrich our lives anymore. It wouldn't get us a promotion at work. It wouldn't pay our mortgages.

I know it sounds like I'm not passionate and I'll be honest I'm not a one-eyed supporter. My sympathy goes to all those fans doing it tough but try to remember: YOU don't have any influence on the game. Don't let people give you a hard time over this.

BUT if you are the kind of person whose life depends on the footy team winning the team looks set for at least a couple years of success. Big Stan won the Grand Final sprint for crying out loud!!! There is alot to like about the team. They will come again.

Decimal currency?

Later in the year.

Seriously, I'm gutted. I was listening to the 1966 game as a kid. At Hall's Gap. We had a holiday house there. We were putting in gate posts out there. Next door lived an elderly Stkilda supporter. We were listening as we worked. This bloked came up and listened with us to ease the tension in second half. He was hoping outside hope for a win. In the final quarter he couldn't listen and walked away back to his house.
After the game he emerged speechless.
Gees I loved to see you get another one.

Well, reading some of the comments on this board from imbeciles like BrianSpeaking certainly doesn't ease the pain...

Someone said that the game will be decided by the five worst players for each team - well, I actually think that while (imo) Milne, King, Dempster, Clarke (yes, my favourite Raph Clarke, he started terribly and never really recovered) and Ray had shockers, Harley, Johnson, Blake, Varcoe and Ottens weren't much better.

Gram and Baker (your pals, Squizzy !) were phantastic today, Ball and Jones were very good, Goddard was on his way to a very good game, and Hayes was phantastic in the first quarter but quiet thereafter.

Geelong should have won last year, but should have lost today. This game should have been over at 3/4 time, yet some atrocious kicks for goal kept them in the game and them keeping us goalless in the final quarter did the rest.

Anyway, back to my break from Bigfooty, I hope that things will cool down in here soon.

2009 was a great year, I don't think that anybody really expected this - 2010 is now a year to look forward to !

Go Saints !

I thought Ottens was very important today. I was really looking forward to Gardi just dominating (not so much with the goals like R14 but in the ruck contests), but Ottens unfortunately kept him honest.

Hopefully you will get bored and return soon HMC - we need people to keep fighting the good fight!

I just don't know what to do.

I'm distraught. Nothing will ease that. I know I will survive, but today I feel emptied,... hollowed out, and there is nothing to fill the void. There is no next week. There is no learning from this week to build on...

If I feel this bad, and I am just a fan, how do the players feel?
All the staff, the coaches and the club officials who have a far greater sense of "ownership" than I do, how do they feel?

I'm proud. I'm proud of the club, I'm proud of the year we had. I'm really proud of the guys - they were fantastic.

I'm gonna try to sleep - but I doubt I will for a while.

Disappointed in some of the opposition fans and one or two of our own too.

I'm just going to blanket red card the lot of the mongrels and when I get home (Queensland) I'll jump on line and ban them from visiting our board ever again.

Indeed K, I've been trying to keep as positive as I can but it's absolutely void like I'm missing something that I had before today. I know I'll get over it so to speak, but that only makes it worse because of just how close that carrot was dangling there.

The boys had a brilliant year, I have nothing but adoration for them and the staff and everyone involved with the club and the effort produced not just today but throughout the year as well as the prospect of next year, and I can only draw on my experience in losing a local GF to even contemplate how they may be taking it right now, looking for where that extra 1% might have come from, the bad decision, execution, half hearted effort as you just sit there thinking "I could have done more" "I could have moved quicker" "I could have thought better" and you hate yourself because you weren't, whether rightly or wrongly.

In the end, what is done is done, and while it hurts now it makes the prospect of our tomorrow all the more sweeter.

Heh powertrip will make you feel better.

I know this will be of no consolation whatsoever, but I know a little of how you feel. I also know your time will be very soon.

Ok. it hurts. BUT we played in one of the best Grand Finals of all time, in what was one of the best seasons of AFL of all time. In the end we lost a game we could have one to a fantastic team. This isn't the Saints of '97. As some Essondon bloke said, remember '65 coz Geelong have hit their peak and next year its our turn. I'm as proud as I've ever been of the Saints and I'm no spring chicken.
If there are "supporters" who think we are losers then they sould f*** off and barrack for Juventus, New England or Storm...just not anyone in this code
