Disappointing end for EF....last 4 scoring shots were all behinds.... another second half fade out... even more frustrating when the club's preseason focus was on improving their fitness from 2017 to finish off games....3rd game on the trot the opposition have out scored the club in the second half....

Bit of talk that last minute goal for Cl came from a very soft free kick.....in all honesty EF kicking 4 behinds in time on was the key factor in EF loss..... really need to nail those opportunities or at least 50% of them.

Bristow will come back to help Griffen v SF Brock Higgins.... hopefully Hampson too....EF need goals....Howson needs to step up and kick goals....small forwards in Ryan and Fletcher need to be persisted with...just need some tall boys to step up...saying that you can't fault Perhams current form....up back one would like to hope the likes of Jupp, Winton, Marsh and Schofield can dampen the forward threat of SF Shaw, Saunders and Johnson....

Big game this Sunday for EF...for all 3 grades...pretty sure EF haven't beaten SF in all 3 grades for a long time....

Fremantle derby spirit ‘alive and well’ after Bulldogs targeted by graffiti

FORGET the first western derby at Optus Stadium, the upcoming WAFL Fremantle derby between South Fremantle and East Fremantle at “Shark Park” is set to be fiery.

This morning Bulldogs staff walked in to find the entrance to their changerooms defaced with the words “sharks” and weak dogs” painted in blue on the stairs.

Kommer out with a # cheekbone...out for 2-8 weeks....Hampson still not right with his calf....Loersch and LA in the reserves...so not all doom and gloom I guess

Big wraps for Scott...193cm talented attacking defender...will be a regular hopefully sooner than later.....u could be on the money andana

SF whipping boys once again!.... interesting to see who Wiley picks next week v SD....he might need to don the boots himself....LOL

Loersch had limited game time but kicked 2.2...reckon another week in the reserves and he will be right to go....LA did less so might need another week perhaps....but totally agree andana....Scott and Bailey couldn't of done any worse up back v SF....

Funny enough before that SF game EF could easily of been 3-0 or 0-3....mentally SF have EF number of late, every year SF hand EF their arse on a plate...the next games bar the Subi game, will determine where EF sit.....the SD WP and even the EP games are winnable...well for Wiley and our sakes they should be.....

Big game for Fletcher this week v his old side SD..... be surprised if he did get drafted...might need to kick 50 goals to get some interest...be handy for him and EF if he did that....started well tho.

Another shellacking sadly....7.5 before EF first inside 50 speaks volumes....kind of expected SF to win easily....but not SD....well not by 15 goals.....not sure where Wiley looks now....obviously Loersch in for Howson.....maybe Eardley back....Harding deserves an extended crack.....Cuneo as well.....Christ I would even drag up a few colts boys in O'Reilly, Joyce and Watson....worked well last year towards the end of 2017....missing Kommer too at the coal face....perhaps Scott deserves a debut too....even Gero lad Nevill...got to get some hardness and structure in to the team...Wiley needs to put a few players on notice...and soon...

Wiley has stated actions will speak louder than words this week....does that mean he will swing the axe after 2 nightmarish weeks of insipid footy?...Loersch is a definite in, probably for Howson...Henson back from illness...not sure about Eardley...probably not...state game the next week after this weekend... so a few more might be back for the WP game May 19th...Harding and Holmes ins for this weekend...some change of personnel need to be done to rectify the lack of inside 50s v SD and SF....up to 10 regulars out... definitely hurting the club but that is footy

Griffen and Howson out for a week, Jupp TBC with some type of hand injury...Wynne and Perham dropped....not sure why Perham considering he is EF leading goalkicker and top 10 in the comps goalkicking list.....

Time for Wiley to get some games in to young Chris Scott esp with Jupp out....considering Daly is EF reserves leading goalkicker, not sure why he is listed at FB....Scott to CHB, Winton to FB...Hampson to CHF, Loersch to FF, Daly to a FP, Snadden to half back, get Marsh and Schofield into the midfield to help Burton, Holmes and Harding.....not sure what Wiley is thinking with that lineup in the paper....EP look pretty young on paper too.... can't afford another hammering tho...good to see LesterSmith back on EF playing list....should get a few more after the state game next week....still time to ressurect some pride and season with a few wins....just need some more players back from that injury list.

I guess a 5 goal defeat is better then the recent two 15 goal defeats.....LOL....Tho if you flip that EP score line of 10.21...then it doesn't look great.....Loersch and Scott had good debuts from all reports....LA and LesterSmith got some possessions and goals in the seconds....state game this weekend, thus a much needed break for all EF fans, players and coaching staff from all these defeats.....for the WP game one would think Griffen, Howson, JMac, LA, LesterSmith and Eardley will be raring to go...with Kommer and Ryan not far behind.....Schofield looks to be in trouble suspension wise, so expect him to be out for a few....pity that because he has been one of EF few shining lights so far...

To the EFFC Members and Supporters,

You may or may not be aware that John Townsend wrote an article about the East Fremantle Football Club that was published in yesterday’s edition of thewest.com.au (read here)

This letter to you is to strongly refute the majority of the information in that article.

First and foremost, John Townsend has repeatedly written articles about the EFFC and the WAFL in a public domain with little regard for the truth and the ramifications as a result of some of his articles.

John Townsend is often ill informed and uses incorrect information when commenting on the EFFC. The simple fact that he didn’t even speak to anyone at the EFFC to justify and clarify his comments is concern enough in itself.

Yes, we admit we have issues with our current league team form and ladder placing and yes we are not happy and will work desperately hard to fix the situation, but John Townsend has clearly taken liberty to embellish the situation at our great club.

John Townsend attended the recent game v East Perth and he was clearly distracted by the weather as he certainly did not do his homework on a number of points raised below. We have taken the liberty to address each point and hopefully give a more accurate understanding of each:

  • The EFFC lacks vision and drive- The Club currently sits on 2 x Redevelopment Committees for a masterplan to redevelop East Fremantle Oval and Fremantle Oval. Both plans will be complete by September this year. The Club has been working closely with both Councils for 2 or 3 years and hope to announce a preferred option for the Club by the end of the year. The Club has a 5-year Strategic Plan for the future which is overseen by a very energetic Board. We have 10 voluntary Directors who put their hand up to provide expertise to help the Club.
  • Financial crisis……….life support- The EFFC is non for profit organisation that has no debt, and makes a small surplus each year, with all funds raised, put into the development of players in our district. The Club has never asked for financial assistance from the WAFC.
  • No longer produces riches of the past decades- Our Colts last year won the WAFL Premiership by 10 goals and our 16’s & 18’s Programs this year are performing quite well. Seven players were selected in the State 16’s and 6 in the State 18’s. Since the AFL Draft started in 1987 we have produced 105 players for the AFL. Not sure how many more riches we can give you !!
  • The ground…. is now a dump- The Club has switched turf & ground contractors in October last year to improve the playing surface. EFFC Players & other WAFL Players have commented on the remarkable improvement in the ground surface this year. The Club has also spent $125,000 over the summer months upgrading the following to keep it to a good WAFL standard : Scoreboard, Lighting Towers, Roof Repairs, Lights & Carpets in Changerooms & Coaches Rooms, plus we have just received a grant from the Town of East Fremantle to upgrade our Showers & Toilets to make them more female friendly for our women’s players.
  • Derby crowd third lowest in history - The ANZAC Derby on Sunday 22nd April had thunderstorms and 20 mls of rain on the morning of the event. The game was also televised on Channel 7. Hence why the crowd was very low.
  • Radio abandoning the ground…….life support……..no future- ABC Radio did attend our ground for the Derby, but the commentary team didn’t like where they had been allocated to call, so they left. ABC Radio were sent a diagram the previous day allocating where they would be seated.

The EFFC actually survives and thrives on our 100’s of volunteers. We are extremely proud of the voluntary, sponsored and donated work that that goes on at EFFC. We are a proud club with history, culture and brand that is renowned Australia wide and a FUTURE and we won’t let some thewest.com journalist belittle such a proud and traditional club…………………...

Great response from the club.

That's just terrible journalism really. I mean, if you're writing a defamation piece, at least get the bloody facts straight.
