Player ratings from the colts this weekend:
#31 Jackson McManus - great in the ruck, dominant up forward. Kicked goals when goals needed to be kicked. Was best on ground for the Sharks. 8.5
#4 Jed Hagan - timeless hard work off the back flank. Good use by foot, great reading of the play. 8
#18 Rory Williams - does the hard stuff so the good players can break on the outside. Doesn't stop putting his head over the footy and is a real team player. Will be great for the reserves next season. 7.5
#5 Corey Warner - the usual run and carry attacking game from Warner. Great kicking inside 50 to packs. His left boot is unreal - still is better playing on instinct than overthinking it. 7
#16 Kaleb Smith - used his raw pace and game sense to take the game on at every opportunity. Played on the far wing, was fantastic taking the game on into the corridor when there was a good option there. A lot to like about his game. 7
#15 Tom McGrath - had to hold Robis and Scaife well to make up for the poor attacking and kicking team game in the first half and did all day. Great defensive game from the very solid full back. 7
#26 Roc Hughes - did his job as a shutdown key defender despite being on the smaller side of his matchup. Complemented McGrath well, not afraid to get his hands dirty. 7
#7 Judd McVee - great reading of the footy off half back, great winning the footy at the contest when it was there to be won. Solid defensive effort. 7
#20 Josh Cripps - struggled in the ruck early against Farrow, but won some free kicks by holding his ground and using his strength. Big body was a plus and managed to start winning his own footy from the stoppages and get the ball going forward. 7
#28 Kale Paton - strong defensive game. Intercepted well, did some good stuff when the ball was to be won on the ground. 6.5
#6 Josh Browne - did his usual hard running up and down the ground all day. Tried to do too much too early, his first quarter and a half was a real struggle, worked into the game later when the Sharks broke away. Hitting targets on the run let him down. 6.5
#8 Taj Woewodin - played his linkman role from defensive 50 to attacking 50 well. Used his workrate to get around the ground and effortlessly beat his opponents into space. 6.5
#19 Richard Bartlett - has this uncanny ability to create 20m of space from nothing. Took 5 marks inside 50 (4 in the last quarter alone), and put the game to bed. Would be amazing to see how he'd be if he was a little bit fitter. 6.5
#1 Sam Emery - played on the opposite wing to Smith, did more outside running, loves a sprint down the wing. Great attacking mindset, lacks defensively but had more than enough teammates making up for his shortcomings. 6.5
#10 Luca Gangemi - thought he worked hard throughout the game and presented options. Tackled hard. 6
#3 Jack Johnston - there's nothing of this kid - 172cm/61kg, but works so hard. Clearly a natural footballer, always looking for his teammates, runs hard both ways. 6
#23 Jack Norrish - a bit of flair with a cracking contested mark on the near wing early in the 3rd term. Did his job well, forced a WP to run with him at all times. 6
#13 Ed Curley - won a lot of his own ground ball in the forward half. Disposal was poor, can't fault his pressure and effort. 6
#21 Samuel Otto - presented well and can be dangerous inside forward 50. Had 4 shots on goal but kicked only the 1 behind. 5
#9 Luke Yeo - pure defensive type role. Lacked composure by foot. 5
#11 Sam Collins - a rare lackluster game. Tried hard defensively, disposal was off. Back him in to up his game next week as a more senior body. 5
#24 Kobe McMillan - struggled all day, couldn't really work into the game even when thrown into the ruck. 4
#25 Jack Williams - the delivery to him was poor, but shouldn't have been playing after battling gastro all week. There are more than enough key forward options in the team that they'd send out a bloke who was clearly not even 50% fit. 2
