Congrats to the 4 EF youngsters picaked up in the drafts.....gutted for Josh Browne and Josh Cripps on missing out.....not sure why the former got overlooked.....fantastic season winning the Comp F&B and playing well v SA.....the latter was always behind the 8 ball coming off his ACL from last year.

Hopefully the club gets round these two boys and they can put their hands up for next year's draft by playing good footy in 2022.....hopefully they stay.

WHAT WORKED
The way the Sharks finished season saw them play some of their best patch of football since they last played finals with a preliminary final appearance way back in 2014. Finals were out of reach and with a growing injury list and uncertainty over the future of their coach, the Sharks could have turned up their toes after a 10-goal loss to South Fremantle in Round 18. Instead, they beat Subiaco, East Perth and West Perth to end the season with great momentum. Third quarters were their best across the season too where they outscored their opponents by 44 points.

WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
An improvement in all areas is what East Fremantle do need to make to play finals in 2022, but the signs were there of it being possible late in 2021. Firstly, they just need to get their full squad available because the players who missed significant time in 2021 can all be difference makers. The Sharks do need to find a goal or two more in 2022 after being ranked sixth in attack while their back-line could do with some help with them ranked sixth also for points conceded. They did especially struggle in second quarters, being outscored by 65 points across the season. Bringing in some more talent and getting talent fit again, and keeping those out there healthy should be enough to have them in finals contention.

OUTLOOK FOR 2022
Overall, all the pieces are in place to build around. With Luke Strnadica in the ruck, Jonathon Marsh and Hugo Dixon up forward, and Matthew Jupp anchoring defence, that's a good starting point. Bring in a couple recruits, get others back from injury and the outlook is bright for 2022. It's Bill Monaghan's fourth season as coach and East Fremantle looks ready and able to take that leap up into being a finals team again while calling the WACA their temporary home.

Pretty sure EF would have them on their protected list, outside that list WCER can speak to any interested player. There is that pre-season draft in March, so I guess that would be a last avenue for either youngster to find themselves on an AFL list before the season starts. Waterman from Cl got onto Essendon's list last minute like this.

First pre-season training session last night, be interested to see who turned and didn't turn up. Wonder where pre-season sessions are being done with Shark Park under a rejig now.

Yeah off to train there for the preseason....good opportunity I guess....can see Carlton giving him the nod in March for that train on spot.....also WCE looking at inviting Joyce and Browne for their train on spot.....as well as EP Kade Dittmar......time will tell I guess

WELCOME TO THE SHARKS JACKSON McDONALD

East Fremantle Football Club would like to announce the player signing of Jackson McDonald to the club for the 2022 season.

Originally from the Aberfeldie JFC in Victoria, Jackson shot into draft calculations in 2016 with some strong performances through the midfield for the Calder Cannons, which earnt him a Draft Combine invite. After missing out on the Draft, Jackson joined VFL club Coburg, making his VFL debut in Round 1 of 2017. With COVID shutting down the VFL competition in 2020 and most of 2021, Jackson headed north to keep playing, winning a premiership with Port Douglas Crocs.

Football Manager, Brad Dodd, gave us his insight on the new arrival.

“Jackson is a strong endurance athlete who can play inside and outside mid. He is very clever around stoppages and has good initial speed and agility to break away from the pack. We see his opportunities with us mainly on the wing where he should enjoy the bigger grounds of WA.”

EF suffered a number of key injuries in 2021, the depth was tested, as shown with EF reserves finishing 2nd last....can see why a few new faces and recycled ones have been added to the current list.

Has Strnadica been invited to train with WCE for their last spot?......good luck to the fella, definitely big shoes for EF to fill, if WCE give him the nod last minute.......only one spot and 3 EF boys in the mix....Strnadica, Joyce and Browne in the running.......

I see a couple of new names on EF playing list.....Williamson from the Essendon District league and ex EP colt Barton.....

Looks like Strnadica and Dittmar are training with WCE at present, surely if Joyce and Browne were in contention they would of started as well......I guess unless anything happens Dittmar and Strnadica would be most likely to get the available gigs....good luck to both lads....be hard to replace Strnadica.....but well deserved opportunity for the lead.....allows Teakle an opportunity to step up.

It is expected that the EFWFC Season will host all their 2022 games and training at New Choice Homes Park whilst EFFC games will be played at the WACA, with a possible country enrichment game being played in the Mid-West early in the Season.

The WACA game day facilities will offer:

• Players the experience at playing at the WACA and use of their facilities

• Members grandstand seating, bar/seating

• Sponsors and guests dining experience at EFFC Presidents Luncheons in the Boundary Room

• Grass banks for kick to kick and kid’s zone

• Visiting club seating and covered area, with bar facilities

• VIP parking at Gloucester Park, paid parking available. Members, families, and guests will have the opportunity to pre purchase a seasonal parking pass for $70.

Seems like EF may have up to 5 players training with AFL clubs over the summer....Strnadica, Joyce & Browne at WCE, Cripps at Carlton and Dixon at St Kilda.....Geez losing two will be a nightmare....any more and it will be a disaster. At the AGM, there is a contingency plan in place, an experienced WAFL player in the mix and possibly Cale Hooker.....will believe it when I see it TBH......

Snadden seem to fall out of favour with the coaching team....can't blame him seeking opportunities elsewhere....though Subi's mids are pretty strong.....so good luck to the guy....as for Barlett....Subi will definitely want a strong commitment from the youngster on and off the park if he is going to get a game with them.....

Interesting to read on the AFL site who are train ons.....only Strnadica and Cripps mentioned from EF......not sure what is going on then....heard Dixon(St Kilda) , Browne and Joyce at WCE in the New Year....yet none of them mentioned....who knows.....

Seems like St Kilda have decided not to invite Dixon to train with them over the summer....if true disappointing for Dixon, but a hidden blessing for EF.....Seems like Strnadica will be a good bet to join WCE over the summer......if happens, well done to the young fella, bugger for EF though.

Sounds like Strnadica is looking a monty to sign on with WCE....obviously too early to count those chickens, but great opportunity for the youngster....well deserved after his time at Freo....or lack of it.....rubbish for EF but apparently there is an experienced ruckman in the mix....just nothing definite till WCE make a decision.....which they probably won't till Feb time.....seriously how long does it take to finalize an AFL list?'...haven't these clubs got staff getting paid to do this stuff?....you either need a ruckman or you don't.....

Hedging their bets, if he goes down with an injury then they sign and pay him for nothing

It seems likely he will get his chance so they'll sign him towards the end of the pre season
