When Freo played their first 2 matches in 95 at East Freo Oval, (our praccy match demolisition of the Bombers, before the Saints and big Lazar Vidovic smashed us in the Ansett? Cup) what were the motives behind this?

Freo Oval used to hold the Big Day Out in those days and this may have been the reason??, or was it more to do with the divide we hear about in those days between East & South in regards to the new AFL club? (and that we sided more with the Sharks or that the East Freo Council & EFFC offered us Shark Park?)

Also, were we training there also in the early days? When did we train permanently at Freo Oval?

East Freo Oval has always had room for plenty of room for spectators, anyone on here get to those games? I remember they were both televised and had plenty of people there.

That was because at the time they were hosting the Big Day Out at Fremantle Oval. Not exactly pitch friendly.

Damn I saw some good acts at the Freo' Oval BDO's.... :thumbsu:
Ministry, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth w/ Iggy Pop, The Meanies, The Hard Ons. The Mark Of Cain, T.I.S.M, The Ramones, Rage Against The Machine :)
It was one of the only times I ever jumped the fence to see a show. It was too easy to do at Fremantle Oval :D

if we use regional grounds for the nab challenge why cant they hold a NAB cup game @ freo oval . i remeber seeing the eagle play down at Mrgret river and played down there at the time (many moons ago) and the ground had pitaful facilities and the ground itself was average . has there been a move to try a challenge match at freo oval or another WAFL groumnd? could be a good way for te AFL to give something back to the WAFL clubs. thoughts suggestions ??????

I remember a game against Hawthorn up at Arena Joondalup a few seasons back.

And a few years ago a bunch of us all headed down to Mandurah to watch Freo v North...

Then there was the infamous game against Port at Freo Oval about 5-6 years ago where that dirty little sniper Josh Carr king hit Belly in the head from behind... The game was under lights IIRC...

I'd love to get a preseason scratchie game at Freo Oval each season - it would make so much sense really. It is our home ground after all.

From memory that one was at Subi. We played Port at Freo Oval at the start of 2006 though. One of the light towers went out just before the start. We smashed them and there were a few melees.

You're probably right... I know I wasn't at either game, so I could have them confused. :(

True, the one at Freo Oval I remember. Duff played a blinder, Peake was burning through the middle. I remember Medders coming on a long lead and marking on his chest inches from the dirt a few feet from the fence in front of us.
