Well well well

I had to chase up a customer today so I had to go for a nice long drive out to Enfield  So out I go and knock on the door, no one home. Decide to have lunch and go for a trundle to this park and have my subway and a smoke. Out of nowhere come these 3 dero's ... "gotta smoke bro?" so being the awesome person I am, kindly handed over 1 smoke to each of them. After they sucked those down in about 10 seconds ... "wouldn't be able to spare one more would ya mate" I do my "geez" and hand them a couple more... as I was putting the smokes back in my pocket one w***er snatches them and they all run off. I'm standing there like an idiot with half a turkey subway thinking wtf just happened?

Now, I've only ventured into that Enfield/salisbury area once before and the first time I did so I caught some guy trying to break into my car.

I will never be going out that way EVER again. I feel so much safer this side of town it's scary. This begs the question.. do northern suburbian people enjoy life in the northern suburbs? What with all the thefts and car chases and whatnot. Do people actually LOVE it out there?

All thoughts welcome :)

I live in the N.Eastern suburbs - TTG - never had any problems up here with anything like that. I work at Elizabeth, and have my car unattended in the carpark everymorning from around 2-3am usually, and have never had any trouble with that either. Must be lucky. The only derro's I get are in the city and down South near Noarlunga-Hackham area.

I grew up in the Northern suburbs (Salisbury, Elizabeth) and have lived in other areas, including Eastern and Western Suburbs. I get hassled for cigarettes (don't even smoke) more in the city (Rundle Street) and The Parade when out with friends than I ever have in the Northern suburbs. I believe there are ferals all over Adelaide. I think you were just unlucky.

Have a workmate who plays for Tea Tree Gully and he says that Salisbury West have a bad reputation. Isn't Fabian Francis player coach for their A side?
Yes, and the club is coming down hard on players so much that players have been told by the club that any player to be found guilty of any offence at the tribunal will be thrown out of the club.

That was last year anyway.

North Eastern suburbs are spiralling out of control, the last 18-24mths has seen numerous problems with gangs etc. Fairview Park has turned to shit. Housing Trust have bought up Golden Grove, Greenwith area's etc so thats turning to Shit, Mawson Lakes will be the same in 5-10 years when the kids grow up.

The same thing happened down south. My parents bought when it was semi-rural, within a year the Housing Trust bought entire swathes of land and turned them into public housing ghettos.

Sent values through the floor and for awhile there we had cars and clothing stolen on a yearly basis, got broken into twice, etc.

That's not correct at least in my area anyway. The housing trust bought a few houses in different streets in the area. Most of these have now been sold, unfortunately to speculators to rent out to the similar type tenant.

Lived ''north'' or ''west'' for most of my life

Ferryden Pk.... never knew any different growing up there. It was the Croydon boys we worried about

Lived in Elizabeth Downs, 2 houses down were dark skinned people, one asked for a cigarette, on informing him I didnt smoke he asked for some money, I said I was poorer than him as I didnt get any handouts . He looked at me and said '' hmm your a big fella unna'' I smiled and walked off. Never had any trouble after that

Moved to Perth then come back to Elizabeth Vale and was told to watch out for the RTS ( rule the streets  ) gang.

Meh Im too old and grumpy to back off so maybe you might read about me in the paper
