EB Games and price matching policy... only stores in the city.

I rarely buy games in actual stores now. I occasionally grab a $20 game from the pile at EB but only if I feel like playing it right away. Otherwise other games I generally get from Play Asia. Having aPS# I can get the US version and play it no worries and save a fair bit, especially if the dollar is high. They also send me a $5 discount for the next order. I go regular post for about $3.

had the same experience at Game 2 weeks ago. told them that big W had streetfighter IV at a cheaper price (cant remember how much). they said there's no big W in the shopping centre and they can only match stores within the complex.

fair enough considering I was at Game in Knox and big W was at southland :D

oh noez im sure they are really going to miss your $2000 over 5 years.

but I agree with you EB are shit house

It's not an insignificant amount of money considering it's from 1 person alone, i was merely showing that loyalty doesn't count much for them.

And i have a few mates that shop at the same place who spend as much and have/are beginning to have the same view. Sure there's a few others

Keep in mind we're talking an EB in a smallish regional city here, not some city megastore

If you don't mind an extra 20 minute drive, just go to Eastland. They have JB, Game, EB, Big W, Dick Smith, Gametraders and KMart. The only store not there is Harvey Norman.

Unless using the 3 for 1 trade at JB, I find the staff at Game really helpful and have never been refused a price match. In fact most of the time they already know the others stores prices and don't need catalogues etc.

I also got Game to match a console deal from Gametraders a few month back no problems at all. After trading in my 60GB Pro it only cost me $150.00 changeover to get a new Elite + Forza + Borderlands + Batman Lego + Pure. Cheaper than buying a new 120GB hardrive.

Those sly st kilda dogs

they're crafty ones mancey.

usually happens like this

I price matched Heavy Rain at my local EB which is in a shopping centre with absolutely no stores that sell games, they had no problem with it. I did it because I couldn't get anywhere else that day and needed to go somewhere close by. I just gave them a clip of the catalogue, they didn't even check if they were in stock.

Each EB makes up their own rules.

The only other time I did it was one in the Melbourne city was pre-ordering Infamous. I pre-ordered for the special edition, when I pre-ordered I asked can I price match, they said sure.

When it comes to release day they wouldn't price match because it was a special edition! JB Hi Fi were offering a slightly different edition (had the DLC and a shirt compared to EB's DLC, different box and shitty "ARTBOOK"). Looking back I should have cancelled the preorder on the spot and told them I'm going to JB down the road.

$2 disc scratch insurance is a scam. Especially with blu ray discs which are more scratch proof than ever.

If you can get to a different store (i.e. the store you are going to price match from) try getting to it even if it's an extra 20 mins or so. It just doesn't make sense to reward a business that has the attitude that they can charge a high price hoping to catch out stupid consumers, and then have the nerve to say they have a generous price matching scheme. Reward the business that had the initiative/capacity to price it so low in the first place.

If you can't get to a different store getting stuff off the internet is a great option. If you can't get overseas games because of region filtering or because of other concerns Game.com.au is usually cheaper than EB and delivers on the release date. No delivery fees either I think.

Does anyone here know how much EB pay for a PS3 console. It's a 40GB original one and was going to trade it in to get a 120GB Slim.
It says they accept them but not how much for them on their site.
It's starting to like mark and scratch the disc's while playing them.
I noticed it after RDR get freezing:thumbsdown: Took it out and it had marks all over it. Luckily they could be wiped off but its getting worse.

Peeps that work at the EB are the gheyz

Lets face it, every retailer will have shops that have absolute dickwads working there. With that many shops around the country, you will get knobjockeys and you will get people with great customer service skills

Just have to be lucky.

Like the people who live near my store :)

For the first ime in a long time I actually bought several games from EB. But I rarely ever do. The reason is because they had so many decent games for half price. I normally buy my games at JB-Hi-Fi though and they have the occasional good bargain there. For some reason though I tend to buy the Playstation Network cards from GAME.

As a general rule I stay clear from EB. What is the point of the "we match the price" policy. I just buy it at the original store because I know that EB will only just match it or just try to weasel their way out of it.

I bought bad company 1 for $17 and Valkyria Chronicles (awesome game, btw) for $30 the other day from EB...

They're more than decent with their sales, but outside of sale-time the prices are atrocious.

That's what I find funny. Retailers complain about 'grey imports' because people can buy stuff from online stores cheaper and they can't compete.

They complain that grey imports don't have GST, that they don't have to pay for a physical store, and they don't have to pay staff wages/super/etc... don't have to do warranty...
MSY has all of those costs that the retailers have, and yet the Megalodon was $278 at EB, and $135 at MSY.

Someone along the line is taking the piss...

That is the case if you personally buy online from an overseas retailer, but as MSY operate in Australia they still need to provide warranties by law. The exact duration isn't specified, but whenever you buy something in Australia, it is under warranty for what one would reasonably expect that item would last. So if you but something from MSY and it dies, they are legally required to repair/refund/replace it.

MSY do give warranties. They had a big legal fight a couple of years ago when they didn't honour warranties but were forced to comply. By law they have to honour warranties, that goes for any place that sells products in Australia, regardless of what the actual store/retailer/seller tells you.

If you see it cheaper somewhere else buy it from there, never seen the point in haggling over a couple of dollars. If you get good service from the store and they always have stock and good customer service why not reward that. Working in the travel industry I hate the seen it cheaper and we'll beat. Looking at you flight centre!

Normally I would, but it means heading there on Saturday (not a long trip though). As we were already going to the shops last night, I thought I'd try to price match and save myself a trip tomorrow.
