I sold a cd on ebay a few weeks back. I posted it out to the buyer but now they are saying they never received it. It was sent standard mail as my ebay add said so there is no tracking number etc.
What happens if they make a complaint against me?
I should not be forced to refund them should they accuse me of not sending it as there is every chance they are not telling the truth and they did receive it.

Can anyone offer any advice. It was a $5 item and it's giving me so much stress!!!

I used to sell a lot on ebay, footy cards mainly and I also owned a post office at the time, had it for 4 1/2 years. In that time, of the 100s of thousands of items that came through there and I personal sorted or sent out there was only twice that an item genuinely went missing. One was a letter and the other was a small parcel.

Chances are it's been received. I laugh when I see people list stuff on ebay and state that they won't be responsible for anything that goes missing in the mail. They're making a ready made excuse for when they rip you off!

I sent a footy card to someone in Sydney once, they stated that I sent the wrong one which I couldn't have done since I didn't have the card that he claimed he'd received. More likely he damaged it taking it out of the hard sleeve I had placed it in. He carried on like a pork chop but I held my ground and basically told him to get stuffed, unfortunately for him, he was the one where I put my foot down. I'd had a few others that had tried it on and to save myself getting negative feedback I'd send them out a replacement card. For the one in Sydney I copped the negative feedback and some ordinary emails at 1am when he was pissed.

It was my only negative in 1000s of transactions.

If they've paid via paypal can't they claim the money back whether you like it or not??
I keep all postage receipts as it atleast says "300gm parcel to postcode 3355" & the date/time etc
Hope you get it sorted.. Ebay is full of highs & lows.

eBay is great but it sure can cause some unnecessary stress at times.

I bought an item about a week ago to have it sent to a friend, so naturally I provided them with the alternate address which I have sent many a gift to. After 2 days with no response I get a message from the seller telling me the address doesn't exist.

The address of course does exist but I checked again and again to be sure, before including the address AGAIN in a message to the seller. Today I received a reply informing me that the address is still incorrect, wtf!?

It's pretty ****ing ridiculous really.

It's a joke of a setup with paypal. Apparently they can claim re-imbursement for it even though I did the right thing and sent the item. Now I'm the one out of pocket as I no longer have the cd and also I will have to pay to re-imburse them! Who's going to cover me for my losses???

There was a bloke on tv the other day saying internet fraud was going to go through the roof, I tend to agree with him, after what's just happened to me, and paypal was part of the problem.

I hope that's not the case for everyone.

Sold a pair of shoes around 6 or 7 weeks ago to a guy in Poland, he claims to not have received them and will be filing a claim with Paypal. I shipped the shoes, send him an image of the receipt and told him that once it leaves my hands then what happens to it is not my issue once Australia Post has it.

Is it better for me to just shut down my account or risk losing $550 ?

ebay is a joke.

i used to sell quite a bit... havent had any terrible experiences personally but friends of mine have.

a guy i know sold a phone, recieved payment via paypal, sent it via registered post, customer says they never got it, ebay asked for proof of delivery, and he faxed them a copy of the customers signature on reciept of the item from australia post, and they still refunded the money to the customer at cost of my friend.

other people i know have had similar things happen to them.

add to that the fact that you pay for listing things even if they never sell, and pay again when they actually do sell. they're quite an expensive service.

oztion.com.au is better. better pricing, better site generally (ie. features for sellers/buyers), but unfortunately, nowhere near as much exposure as your product will get on ebay.

PayPal has it's own fees, too. If you sell something for $10 or less you basically end up with nothing.

When eBay bought out PayPal they tried to enforce the rule whereby if you bought and sold goods on feebay then the only payment options were going to be PayPal or C.O.D. They decided that due to Australia's low population and therefore smaller market in the grand scheme of things that we'd be the test bed for the rest of the world.

Everyone was up in arms, I think there was even submissions put into the ACCC. Needless to say that feebay backed down.

There reasoning was that it was looking out for their customers to save them from getting ripped off  The only ripping off going on was from feebay themselves.

You pay to list, you pay when it sells and then paypal would take it's cut as well. What makes it even worse is that feebay really cracked down on people gouging on postage charges, people were using this to either recover their fees that they'd lost or were using it to make their profit. For people like myself who charged only for whatever the postage and packaging cost it was another kick as PayPal takes a cut of the entire final valuation plus postage :thumbsd:

Of the 1000s of transactions that I used to do, more than 90% of them were completed with direct deposits via internet banking, I never had a problem with a single one of them.

Suffice to say, I rarely use feebay now and when I do it's for purchases.

So i've basically worked out that if your a seller, the buyer can scam you without issue if they haven't paid as a gift and if you don't have full tracking with a customs form.

Luckily in my case the guy paid as a gift although I'm sure he's not scamming me. Now he's gonna be out of $550 and I feel somewhat guilty about it.

i always used to include an estimate of the ebay fees in my postage and handling charges.

in the end of the day no one can tell you how much to charge for handling. if they don't think its reasonable then don't bid. i used to get complaints, but quite frankly i couldnt give a f...

Before they made it compulsory for people to have paypal accounts you'd see the odd listing with a Buy-It-Now of 1c and postage of $1500. lol
It was a way to get out of final valuation fees on the $1500 as the postage charges weren't included in the final value.

I've only ever once had an issue, I bought a cd and never recieved (of course it happened to be a cd that was hard to find, managed to find another one a year later). I told them I never received it, they said they'd sent it. I figured they had because they had no negative feedback, so I assume someone nabbed it in the mail.

And yes Paypal sucks shit, not to mention they take a ridculous amount from you anyway.

this is the problem with ebay.

not your attitude, but the fact that most buyers don't have that attitude.

if you want postage insurance, pay for it.

fact of the matter is there are a lot of buyers out there that are dodgy, and will deny receiving an item that they have in fact received.

ebay went down hill the day that sellers were no longer allowed to leave feedback for buyers.

At Least pay for delivery confirmation. This way you will get a receipt that it has been sent and received and you have proof. I had an issue that took three months to resolve with a dodgy seller who sent me the wrong version of Windows 7 or Vista. If he chose to accept postage by regular mail and that is all he paid for and you can prove with receipts etc you sent it then you have a strong claim. EBAY is the big problem with e commerce and this is why someone needs to set up a better and cheaper online auction site.

Paying for delivery confirmation is only good if it is actually delivered. My best mate bought 4 x GF tickets in '09, $1200 a pop.

The seller said only bank deposit was acceptable because once the money was deposited into his paypal account it then took 5 days to withdraw it to his bank account. He said that he would only send the tickets, by express post, when the money was actually in his account so my mate and plenty of others paid using bank deposit. The seller gave them all express post tracking numbers and of course no tickets ever showed up for anyone. He sold over $70,000 worth of tickets in a few days.

Up until then the seller had 100% feedback but after that week it went down substantially and the account was suspended by ebay. He gave a fake address of somewhere in the far Western district of Victoria even though it was discovered that he actually lived in Whittington, a suburb of Geelong.

They took him to court and he produced the receipt for the express post envelopes that he'd bought, saying that he posted them and that if they didn't arrive then that was Australia Post's fault. He got away with it but as far as I know they got him for scalping, which he freely admitted to.

Generally if you send via express and registered post it is scanned there and then onto the system, so you know that it's at least been sent. If, however they are prepaid and taken away to be posted at a later date in a street mail box then there's no way to tell if it's actually been sent. You can always argue that the postal worker/contractor emptying the street boxes must have pocketed it. It's your word against theirs and you've at least got your purchase receipt.

Paypal generally favours the buyer even if you're in the right.

My mother is not very tech savvy and she sold an iPhone through eBay / received payment through Paypal. Turns out the buyer only lives 20 mins away (apparently) so he begged to come around and picked it up that day. A few days later, the bastard claimed he never received the item.

Of course, with no delivery (and hence no delivery confirmation), she lost the item AND the money. Not much we could do about it.

Have you got proof of the original receipts/proof that your mother was the original owner of the phone? If so then I would lodge an appeal with this either with paypal or consumer affairs/vcat or whatever it is in your state. This way the little toe rag will have to prove a - how he got the phone was not stolen and b he admits to paying for it and lying. The shit truck will be up against the wall with a reason.

Exactly their is no way items going missing like packages maybe letters or real small items. The sender has not send it when it doesn't arrive or someone in the post office/customs only has stolen it but they risk losing their job and possibly even more.

How does someone hide a box the only way it could get lost if the posty leaves it like sometimes on your front door when no one home although they should leave a message to pick it up but some don't.

This way Someone could just walk in front and take it while no one near the street.

What ebay are you using i don't pay ebay fees only shipping and the price of the item. The conversion rate is the only charge like if the $US is 1 to Australia 99 cents ebay is about 4 cents lower.
