Player Watch Ed Allan

Approximately 3-5 times per day I have a meltdown about passwords. Then I have a meltdown that I can’t find the password folder we have. Then a meltdown that I changed a password and didn’t update it in the password folder. At this point I’m prepared to have my bank accounts drained and identity stolen so I can log into YouTube to watch fishing videos faster
When it comes to passwords, I keep it simple.

I either use my name, or 12345678.
I like mixing it up….but not too much.

Only 6 times have nether of those passwords worked on my accounts.

I had my wallet with ATM cards, drivers license and cash taken from my bag. Including my phone.
One of the students at the school I've been working at.
Can't prove which student although I think I know..
I had a complete meltdown because of this.
It took a few weeks to reorganize myself.

Life is good again brother 🙏
In Thailand, are you allowed to punch the little c**t out?
I suppose you went through a few bottles of Mekhong and a few bags of weed whilst working out how to proceed.

Look like Ed as a person off field top lad.
But i really dont rate him as a player.
Dont think he will cut it.
vfl maybe but not afl.
No all that rapped in Allan.
I will be glad tho to be proven wrong and eat humble Pie.
Until then tho

I was scathing of Allan's laconic attitude in in the opener against GWS last year - his chasing was appallingly and he lacked urgency. By mid year I thought he had turned the corner with some good games, but failed to hold his spot. I think his best is more than good enough, but consistency in effort and application is needed.
Post being taken at 1989 VFL Draft as a 21 y/o mature ager, his old man debuted at 21y 209d with Hawthorn and played 6 games before going on to be a regular at the Hawks for the next 4 seasons, collecting 2 AAs, before crossing to Captain Freo for a career total 145 games. We all hope he's a similar chip off the old block.

For our crusty old supporters, that same year, we took household names in Daryl Groves with pick #10, Matthew Hanrahan with pick #22 and Michael Styles with pick #24 for a collective total of zero senior games. Although all was not lost; we picked up a 16 y/o Paul Williams with pick #70.

Ed is also related to Peter Mann, another Freo captain.
Given that Ben was a late bloomer, we can hope Ed is as well.

Some losing patience with Allen’s development. Have to remember he’s key position height, so will take longer to grow into his body than a smaller mid.

Hoping that better intent will come with better core strength, and it’s not just a feature of his that never gets ironed out.

Bont, Fyfe, Cripps, pendles etc were taller mids. They played early. I don’t buy the growing angle. I just don’t think he’s going to be the player we really want/need him to be. 4th season this year. Should be hitting prime, not trying to get a game.

Why are you comparing him to top ten picks?

Jordan Dawson played 5 games in 3 years at Sydney and he turned out okay. Ed has played more than that in 2 years

Whilst he remains on the list, I still hold out the belief that he will keep improving and demand a regular role. I remember reading somewhere that he missed a lot of footy and was a bit of a late starter (injuries?), and therefore, has the potential to be a bit of a late developer. Seems to have all the attributes, just needs that little bit more involvement, urgency and confidence to both hit the contest and take the game on. I remain glass-half-full whilst he wears the jumper and look forward to the topping-up-of-said-glass this season.

In his draft year he grew something like 15cm and ended up with a back injury as a result.
This meant he had to deal with the injury, as well as manage his new size, something he is still coming to grips with.
I think the thing he lacks is the confidence to just go for it.

They’re all freaks and superstars though. You could name a handful of key position players who impacted early too. Doesn’t mean it fits the general trend.

ITs not really patience for me, as I haven't been keen since his first year. My question is what's he good at? Ball use is below par, contest work is below. A bit slow to react. He's tall and he can run, but does he have any football strengths?

Has the potential to surpass Brayden Sier level.

General trends are by 4th season he should be well entrenched in the team if he was going to be a long term player. I think many of us are just clinging to hope and trying to find reasons rather than accepting he’s just not going to be the player we need. I agree with sr36, I’m just not sure what he’s actually good at outside of running. First two months of the season will be an interesting watch on him.

I am still hanging on hope.
There were glimpses at times last season.
Running capacities are a good starting point.
I think belief is the big issue with Ed,
Both from himself and the coaching team.
Needs to show greater desperation.
If he has a breakout game, then I think he could go on with it.
Important first few months for him.

Took opponents on physically when he had the ball in hand last night. Which I liked to see because if he breaks their tackles no one will catch him. Has certainly put on more size. Is a very big midfielder
Good. With his size and speed, if he can add aggression to his game it will elevate him very quickly. Players his size become very hard to stop if they’re willing to use their physical gifts to their advantage.
