Good to See Eddie finally take responsibility for his casual racism. He is old, he probably doesn't mean it, but its still there
Perfect example of the bloke who comes from 'inside' who doesn't understand why some of the things he says offends people when he's just joking around. Thinks it never used to offend them, when in fact it did. Did a lot of good for the club, and hopefully can be remembered that way, but he has definitely not moved with the times.

Never got the impression Ed was malicious or genuinely had racist beliefs in his controversial remarks but these days you don't have to be. You just have to be stupid.

He isn't.

But this is abouta complete lack of accountability over an extended period of time.

Has anyone from Collingwood tried to get an independent mediator and sit down with him and other indigenous players?

Playing the lighting rod and speaking first and thinking later has helped the Pies but his mouth has finally caught up to him.

He's a big boy and no-one pushed him, the fact he hasn't tried to work through this with all parties, and instead just cracked it and quit says a lot IMO.

The PC brigade strikes again.
If the public face and leader of an organisation is either wilfully ignorant of, or complicit in, systemic discrimination throughout the organisation then someone needs to help them see that they are a major part of the problem.

Doesn’t matter what the basis of the discrimination is or what type of organisation, it is unacceptable. There is plenty of training available to help understand the issues and take steps to avoid being deliberately nasty to a section of people based on traits that they often have no say in having.

Blame the PC brigade for Eddie’s demise if that makes you feel better, they didn‘t make any decisions at the club or pretend it was a proud day to be labelled as discriminatory. That is all on Eddie and the people who enabled his behaviour.

Do you know what sponsors are?

On top of that many of the laws underpinning workplace anti-discrimination have existed for decades so ignorance isn't an excuse but Eddie should have handled this report more proactively than he appears to have done.

The irony of this comment is Eddie is actually a lefty himself, his brother Frank is a Labor MP....He grew up in Broadmeadows with migrant parents....I think in this situation the tide turned against him & it snowballed to a point that even a man as savvy as Eddie couldn’t stop it....No doubt he did great things for Collingwood, but he made the right decision in stepping down today.

think people mean the radical left

Mate, you HAVE to agree, we cannot disagree in this world. IF we have a different opinion to society we are labled all different kinds of stuff. YOU MUSTY AGREE, if not, you're the devil.

Nothing wrong with disagreeing in this world.

Do find it amusing though that people that criticise others for playing the victim card, ironically play it themselves more often than not.

never seen a racist do so much for disadvantaged indigenous and minority groups
agreed. stating that the australian of the year could play king kong in a movie not long after he was abused as being a gorilla by a collingwood fan was a great contribution.

Everyone is a hypocrite. We all judge others for shit we're also guilty of. I used to play the hypocrite card quite a lot until it suddenly dawned on me just how pointless the exercises is.

its funny sometimes, especially when stuff like this happens. listening to flogs getting publicly smacked down when they do sh*t like deliberately refer to him as 'harry obrien' and claim his name is just part of his act.
The real flogs are the two people hosting the show. I dont really like them anyway, but they were embarrassing to the point where I had to turn it off

The guy had one season left to serve and you left leaning social media lot couldn't allow him to have that.

Poor Ed has caved in to loud social media cowards.

Disappointing.
Nah but Nah - When Charlie King gives you a thumping on national TV, its time to listen! Ed's first 15 years did so much for the club and AFL however his appalling comments over the last few years have spoilt all that. Had he left four or five years ago, he would have been fine. Its what Ed has said in the past has caught up with him and nothing to do with loud social media cowards. He was hoist by his own petard.

Eddie was a tool for saying that and it reflected on Eddie because all humans are members of the ape family.
