It is pretty easy to say, thanks to the media, that Eddie is struggling at the moment. He is CEO of the Nine Network, and at the same time president of the Collingwood Football Club, the biggest sporting club in Australia.

Now, his job at Collingwood isn't in jeopardy, but his job as a CEO is looking pretty dull. Plenty of negatives have come out through the media reflected back to the great man, so it comes down to the simple conclusion. Will he stand down as president of the Pies to ensure he runs, simply, the bigger business.

Be good to discuss on this topic, not only from a Collingwood supporter perspective (poll) but also discuss Ed's immediate future as at the end of 2006, and his position at Channel 9.

Yo Lonie, you're living in the past with that poll ;)

He has no time to be Collingwood President. If he does not stand down at the end of the season he'll be gone from Channel Nine within twelve months. His career's at stake.

agree.

the strength of having Ed as president was the exposure he gave to Collingwood through his outspoken comments and his position in the media as host of the Footy Show etc.

Since he got the top job at 9 he's barely been spotted from a Collingwood point of view. Not sure how his performance has been behind the scenes at Collingwood but he should resign as president until he's got less on his plate.

I'm sure he'd be welcomed back with open arms when his stint as head of 9 is over.

Yeah, I think it is at best, for him, to stand down as Pies president. He has been a great president, maybe the best at Collingwood, maybe the best of all-time, but his main role is to be the CEO at Nine, and he is just doing himself harm both inside nine and outside.

He will still always be a business man down at Collingwood, just more behind the scenes I guess, (if he isn't like that year anyway!)

Eddie has been struggling as a whole I guess :thumbsd:. I know in Sydney he has struggled to adapt to the Sydney way of life like some new sydneysiders (which has been said by the tabloids actually) and I can see it is difficult at the moment for a Sydneysider like him to take charge of a Melbourne based club. there was even talk of him having a role in Russell Crowe's South Sydney rabbitohs NRL club. can anyone claify this? personally I think if he takes up that offer at Souths he will have a little bit too much on his plate :(
IMO he is doing great at Collingwood but needs to work a bit more on the channel 9 side of things.

We owe Eddie a lot. He was probably going to go at the end of the year and the 9 issues may have sealed that but most said he'd have to go to take the job and he didn't. The bottom line is the bottom line. If he gets the ratings in and the profits flowing he can write his own rules. If not he will have to jettison anything that can be seen as a distraction. If nothing else the market will want this.

Very similar to footy really when you think about it. I hope Eddie does exactly that.

Robert Figeon (sp) wrote an article about the Sydney media being hypocrital over Eddie's dealing of Jessica Rowe. He said they were very hypocritical at first they wanted to boot Rowe off TV and now they are looking to save her since Eddie spoke out about her and the show's poor performance, despite Eddie actually supporting Rowe.

I've actually never heard of anything about the Rowe-McGuire thing, I guess the Melbourne media hasn't made a big deal about it.

there was a report on the front page of the Age last week. an affidavit was leaked where eddie had alledgedly said that channel 9 were going to "bone" (sack) Rowe. big deal because 9 tried to suppress the leaked document.

also claimed that eddie had used footy terms to talk to his staff. it didn't really reflect well on eddie and I'm guessing this is the trouble that Lonie is referring to in the opening post of this thread.

Yeah, this all comes about from seeing that article a couple days back. There is a thread on the Media and Entertainment Board for memory.

Oh ok. Well that shows more hypocrisy since the Channel 7 boss once said something like "sometimes we are so confidence we could air a s**t sandwich and think it would rate".
