mj,jj,McV,bolton,pev,5 players that could be offered to other clubs in return for a gun on-baller 23-24 old(In the style of an Embley or Bartel)players that are in their top10 but are not at the top of their clubs salary tree yet.Of course they would have to be out of contract and looking for bigger money than their own club offered.

Trading mj or jj would kill me as a supporter because i love these guys, but this is footy now. These two have lost pace and don't Kick enough goals, but they are still good players.worth something now-worth bugger all in two or three years.Bolton lacks "vision" around the ground. He seems to panic a bit when he gets the ball and is only effective when his confidence is up.He gets beat'in every time he plays on a star forward.maybe he needs a new club, new start.Pev is a gem.He reminds me of some of my U7 AusKick players.Desperation, guts, the will to do anything to get the ball. But,its just not good enough at this level. He hasn't got the top level ball skills to really drill it into a forward's hands.McVeigh has been great for this club.He struggled for about 4 years to cement his place in the side and he is a deadly kick for goal, good in defence.Exactly why he is worth $ now.Why take a risk and keep these older players and hope they play well and get us to the finals next year.I'd hate to be part of the EFC board at seasons end deciding who should stay and who will go.Its hard for us Essendon supporters to think of trading good players because we don't do it a lot, but we are in a postion where some tuff decisions have to be made.Hardwick was the last gun player we traded,we didnt want to,but someone had to make room for the kids coming up.Welsh is having a slow start this year, but he will be right in time.He is a very hard nut,and history shows u need the nuts in the back line to win flags.NathanLM will develop into a top line running back flanker i feel.We really need someone to anchor down c/half back and play there week after week.
The 2000 glory days were 6years ago.time to re-shuffle the decks and gamble on the new generation of young dons.I'm guttered about our progress this year but i'm excited about what lays around the corner at Bomberland......now if we could just get 2more years out of hirdy.................

I tell you what, go to the Geelong or West Coast Board and post up what you've written here.

Namely JJ, MJ or McVeigh for Embley or Bartel.

I think you'll get the same response from them as Sheedy would from Worsfold and Thompson.

Ask yourself this, if we don't want them why would anybody else ?

Pev and Bolton will either stay at Essendon or be delisted.
No club will trade for them. To think otherwise is delusional.

I actually reckon someone might take Bolton. I reckon that is quite possibly the only reason he'll get games in the seniors this year, to boost his trade value. If he spends the year at Bendigo, he has none.

He's been close to going twice, we won't get much for him but there is every chance someone will have a nibble.

The Johnson's won't get traded. Sheedy won't make the mistake of trading club champions away again. They are more value to EFC than anyone else and they are more value to EFC than just what we are seeing on the field at the moment.

At a time when our list is already struggling because of the lack of 23-27 year olds, we would be mad to trade the few good ones we do have.

There is always a club at the end of the year who has a player on their list who is on their way to being a 'gun' but the club won't budge on price, because they can't fit them into the cap,so they look at deals from other clubs. It's gunna happen to WC next year.

Paul Williams is a good example, collingwood took the punt that he wasn't going to get any better at the age of 27-28, but he was attractive to other clubs and was worth the trade at the time.Pies would have thought,'you can have him, suckers!' but look where his form took him at the swans..... the pies lost that bet, but it could have happened the other way. They could have kept him, payed him money that could have gone into young kids and then.......form drops, pace drops, confidence goes etc. Sounds like the story of some of our "older"players.
If a club is willing to take a punt on a player like Ted Richards, than anythings possible. We have 5 or 6 players that are using up about 1mil in payments that i for one would like to see spent on youth OR a gun on-baller who is not over 30 (Campo is a bet by the EFC that is yet to be seen weather it pays off)

I agree, however I doubt we would get anything more than a third round pick, unless his form dramatically rises in the 2nd half of the season.
Of the five the only two worth any value would be McVeigh and MJ.
I would like to keep both but I wonder what value to Sydney and Geelong respectively these boys would be pairing up with their brothers.

We should delist Bolton at year's end, he's no value to us going forward. A 3rd or 4th Round pick we should take in this draft.

Not sure Sydney would want a McVeigh type, they have plenty similar. No doubt Bomber would love MJ at Geelong.

Guys Bartel signed a new 3 or 4 contract over the 05/06 break.

Does this mean he is totally out of touch. No but I can tell you the players mentioned wouldn't get him to Windy Hill

There would only be one thing that would get Bartel and that is the same as it cost us to get Ottens. R1 draft picks. Last year out of contract, if persuaded he could have been got instead of your Carlton guy but now the cost would be way too much , Im sure

It's okay mate, the vast majority here realise that.

Paul Williams left because he wanted more money. I'm pretty sure he had some business problems back in Tassie and the Pies couldn't help him out. We did get Clement and Holland out of the deal though so a win/win for the Swans and Pies.

When Bolton was fit and full of confidence a few seasons ago (seems like decades) he was a very valuable player in the make up of our side playing as a mobile chf, leading deap to the wings and draging his shagged opponent up the ground. If we can get him back into that role, he could regain that form we expect from him. Don't get me wrong, I am the first one in the crowd calling for his head and would only hope this elevated form equats only as value on trade day.

I just wonder what team would need a player of his type (with form obviously).

I think someone would take Peverill also..especially those with established midfielders and require someone up forward to keep it inside their forward 50 in the mould of Matthew Robbins.
If we had some leg speed in the midfield, I dare say he would be more than handy in the forward 50 for us with a little goal kicking practice.
Im still a fan of the strongest player at our club, so maybe Im biased.

I think it's safe to say that we won't be trading any of our draft picks this year. Not the first two rounds anyway. The more I hear about this draft the more i'm convinced that will be the case. Unless of course Judd wants to come home. If we get Gibbs, then we get him. If we miss out I hear that there are a couple of likley CHB running around that we could choose from that will go inside the top 4 or 5. I'm happy with that.

Even better if we miss out on them all, as that would mean that we have won games. Reality is that we probaly won't. So I would love to have two first round picks, three if we get the priority pick in between the first and second round(I think that's right, isn't it?).

Question is how do we get it? Bolton, Pevrill, Henneman etc aren't going to get us that, so let's take them out of the equation. We should take anything we can get from them. But would someone like Melbourne give us a first round pick for both McVeigh and Welsh? Would you take a pick in the top 10 for those two? For me, yes, for others no.

Johnson should stay, maybe Solomon. Premiership players just do something for me. And also, we should bring back Cupido, because if Bolton goes, i'll need another stupid palyer to love.

Melbourne is awash with small defenders.
Nathan Brown, Matthew Whelan, Simon Godfrey, Daniel Bell, Clint Bartram, Nathan Jones, Phillip Read and Daniel Ward just to name a few.

They don't need any more.

Absoloutly dreaming if you think McVeigh and Welsh would attract a top 10 pick from them.
You've also got to factor in the salary cap concerns they would have as both players would be on 150K (minimum)

JJ,MJ,Pev,Solly for Aka.

so in two games time JJ MJ and solly hit some great form... throw off their niggling injuries and turn back to the clock to 01 and play ruthless footy... they help the youngsters and we win 4 in a row against 8-15th placed teams.... would u still want to trade them... although they are as good as a pack of lollies to a diabetic with high numbers atm.. what else we got??? we just have to prey that they take that finger out of their ass as play well

Well any club then, bad example. Because if there isn't then we should stop talking about trading players and just de-list them and start fresh.

Or we could be patient, delist the players at the end of the year that will not make it and go about the rebuilding which we have been doing for the past two seasons.

I've used this example before but its worth noting. Imagine if Collingwood delisted Dane Swan and Heath Shaw last season. They hadn't done anything and the team was sitting at the bottom of the ladder.

Or Adelaide got rid of players like Massie, Reilly, Hentschel, Bock, Rutten  who had shown nothing and traded their older players such as Edwards, Goodwin, Hart for draft picks at the end of 2004.

Believe it or not, the club knows what its doing.

That's what i'm saying tripper. If we can't trade anyone, de-list the Hennemans, Boltons etc and just get on with it. I don't really think that just because we can't get a worthwhile trade for McVeigh and Welsh we sack them. That is silly.

I wasn't being serious, Solly has several more good years in him, I've always been a fan of the Johnson boys and here's hoping we win the next 4

I dont think a great deal of you realise how strong this draft will be. If your talking about trading next year, fair enough but who know because they may get worse. You have got to bit the bullet and cut your ties or persist.
Take these things in.
1. If we happen to finish in the bottom 3, we may get Bryce Gibbs or even Joel Selwood. They will be quality players and many judges rate them both easily ahead of Mark Murphy, and we know how well he's going.
2. If we finish last, we may be able to persuade a quality player to the club regardless. Security of knowing we are going to have 1st pick, and being a proud club with a rich history, we could get a class player. Who that may be, we are yet to know.

Personally, I cant wait til the 2008 draft. A 15 year old down at Essendon Grammar will be a star in Addam Maric, who has strong hands, kicks it a mile and is almost a Hird clone in his style of play(Being a HF Flanker/Onballer).
Prehaps we can persuade him to keep under the radar and pick him up:cool:
