Rules Effect of New Rules on Scoring in 2021 !!!

I have done a quick analysis of the actual change in point scored in the first 9 rounds of 2021 compared to 2018 & 2019 (2020 left out because of shorter quarters).

Compared to 2018 the teams are scoring 1.62 POINTS LESS per game in 2021
Compared to 2019 the teams are scoring 1.28 POINTS MORE per game in 2021

And it seems the longer the season goes on the less scoring occurs.

I stress POINTS not GOALS !!

So the change in rules have basically had NO impact on the game.

THE AFL SHOULD JUST LEAVE THE RULES ALONE !!!!

I don't think the sole intent of the new rule was more scoring though.

Besides, the rule has been wound back over then past month anyway.

Get rid of the “STAND” rule. Absolutely farcical.

Does nothing for the game, especially when the kicker plays on and umpires are either far too late or don’t call “play on”

I’m sick of these clowns changing rules at the drop of a hat.
It is “the people’s game” not the afl’s/sHocking’s little play thing to bastardise.

We all know why those rules were introduced.

Damien Hardwick said recently that the stand rule combined with the new kickin rule has slightly increased scores from the back half. However it has decreased scores from front half turnover by a bigger amount so the net result is lower scoring games.
