Just jumped on the CFC website and saw this article about Chris Egan. I honestly rate this kid as good as any on our list 'potentially' and as he goes on to say, he just needs to get the leg strong again (and his overall bulk) and is ready for a solid pre-season come 2008.

Think this is a sign that the club will not delist or trade him as they too realise the amount of talent and untapped potential he has. Im of the opinion that the club can get this kid right and really get the best out of him on a regular and consistent basis. Just needs to be given the time to develop.

He is the player to watch out for next season much like Travis Cloke this season.

Agree 100%. His game against West Coast at the Dome last year proves what an exceptional talent he is. His form in the second half of last year was arguably as good as anyone's on our list.

People love to have a crack at him because they don't appreciate that individuals are different. He may appear laconic or be a bit more laid back, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care or that he won't work hard.

Some of the criticism this year has been a joke as well considering he has been injured. People are saying what has he done, well he can't do anything if he can't play.

The criticism of Egan reminds me of the criticism Cloke got, but all those people have their tales between their legs now, and I am sure the same will happen with Egan.

Everyone mentions his attitude. How do we know what his attitude is like? Do all you guys hear what he says to everyone and know what he thinks?
None of you would have the first clue about his attitude.

I'd be pretty pissed if we delisted him, and he basically has no trade value.
Was unlucky after the Crows game, he wasn't too bad in that match, but was then dropped for disciplinary reasons, and was then injured.

He has talent no doubt about it, and i reckon he can still become a best 22 player quite easily.

Egan can slot in to the team as a HFF/FP, and release Thomas and to a lesser extent Davis and Didak up the field. He could even fill in a role as winger/mid himself and I wouldn't discount him excelling in his Williamstown role as a rebounding back flanker.

This attitude stuff is based on nothing. Maybe he appears a bit laconic, but that's all. His passion for the game is unquestionable.

Yep - Way too much invested in the kid to ditch him after an injury, particularly when he has shown that he can be useful for the club.

FWIW, even his one game this year, against Adelaide, was a pretty decent performance.

Attitude as in application boys . Don't get too fired up .

Undisciplined in Adelaide , been in the system a while and yet to make his mark .
That's the attitude I'm talking about .
AFL footy isn't a given right for anyone , I would imagine most people would be breaking their necks to do everything right .

At least until they're established and hit the K , go clubbing , drop their daks in front of women , piss on people , drink drive , swim the Swan etc etc :D

Been in the system a while? You're kidding.
05 was his first year where he made an impression.
06 he had a superb second half of the year.
07 he has been injured all year.

You are kidding yourself. He can't help that he is injured. Not everyone is like Thomas and Pendlebury.

He was okay in the later half of 06 , superb would be a stretch .
Breaking team rules after the Adelaide game doesn't exactly earn him too many friends either .
As I said , he's been around for a while and hasn't established himself . It may not be his fault he's injured but in another 3 years like the last 3 and that will do him no good because people get cut all the time , injuries are a sad fact of life .
That's why he needs to do everything he can right .

Rightly or wrongly people with credits , like Leon in this instance , are viewed more favourably .

I think what people do is draw conclusions from what they see on the field, and at times Egan's work ethic leaves a bit to be desired.

Personally, I think it would be madness to delist Egan. There are things I don't like about his game: he's lazy sometimes and doesn't put his head over the footy. But the upside is simply enormous with this kid. He has dazzling athleticism, and while he's prone to the odd miskick, his skill level and creativity are very good. I don't think he's the type of player you'd build your side around, but he's the type you'd always like to have in the team because he appears, to me, a potential matchwinner (though, to be honest, we've yet to see him put it together at senior level).

He is a huge talent.

The knee injury was unfortunate for Egan because he had shown very little up to that point. It is always hard first year back from a knee reco so it will tough to make an impact next year. That leaves him 2009 as his last gasp. My betting is on Egan not making it at Collingwood. It is cut throat with short lists and compulsory culls. I hope I’m wrong but IMO anything we get from Egan is a bonus. I hope we never again downgrade a top 10 draft pick – particularly for a player of the ilk we have in abundance. What a rubbish decision that was!

IPersonally, I think it would be madness to trade Egan.
Madness? It isn’t even possible. He has no trade value. If we delisted him at the end of the year he might get rookied by someone who can’t spot rookie talent and punts on him. At this point we have to keep him for 2 years to get any return on our investment and hope for the best. The best would be some promise mid/late in 2008 and a good 2009. He has a truckload of work to do, an attitude to adjust and some serious on field awareness to develop.

I meant: madness to delist Egan. I'll correct my post.

Did Egan have a full knee reco? I thought it was a medial ligament that he did. Anyone?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a full reco, because from memory when he first went into surgery he was a chance of playing again this year, until later being ruled out for the year. He should be able to train preseason and be fit enough to play next year.

Going back to the question about delisting him, I think Collingwood see the potential in him and have said he's going to be important to the team already. There are other players who'd get delisted before Egan.

I think the kid's worth persisting with. He should add more strength over the next couple of years and he could become a difficult match-up with his agility and height. I remember watching him in the game against the Swans last year in Sydney thinking he was going to be a class act.

He will be a very good player just needs a full year of football i agree with last year his 2nd half performance in 06 was sensatinal and its great the club has given him the confidence to get his body right he was sensatinal in the Elimination final againts the doggies

I would love to see him come on. As I would with any Collingwood listed player. His inability to get in the best in the Willy side was always a worry to me. I know people like to make excuses for him, saying that he needs to be playing at the higher level, but i'm not convinced at all by that argument. All other players that get dropped back seem to dominate. Anyway, let's see him tearing it up like 2006 in 2008!:thumbsu:

I'm not as confident as you blokes. He reminds me too much of Julian Rowe. Until he shows something that impresses me, I'm staying off the bandwagon.

Cross between Julien Rowe and Leon Davis.

I'm not saying he is, or will be, as good, but he reminds me of a cross between Daniel Motlop and Brett Burton.

He has the same tall, gangly physique, explosive acceleration and vertical leap. Whether he has the dedication to getting the best out of himself remains to be seen.
