Where do you think eegs is at in the football world? He was taken relatively high at 12 if i remember correctly and i would have to say he hasnt lived up to it. His last few rounds in 2006 were of a good standard but he hasn't really lifted a foot this year.
Gotchy said he was playing back in the 2's to work on his defensive skills which is a smart move. He is a woeful backman but MM is not dumb and would give Gotch these messages. I see that he was in the best for Willy 2's on Sunday so hopefully he can keep getting better.
Id say he has to dominate for games on end to find a place in the seniors as blokes such as Dicky, Leon, Daisy, pendles, didak, Licuria and Toovey play some what similar roles to Egan. Hopefully he can lift his game cos i really like him and i really belive that his speed, agility, athletic ability, goal kicking prowess and skill could benefit the side in years to come.
But as i have read on threads he could be a scapegoat for trade at the end of the year as collingwood chases charman, wood or maybe dal santo. What are your thoughts on the boy??

I'd like to see him succeed but i would use him as trade bait. Not sure he'd get us much though at the moment. Needs to lift. Needs to be told his time is limited if he doesn't take the next step. Give him a hurry-up.

"A kick up the backside and he should be fine."

I keep hearing this time and time again. I'm sick of excuses. He should be performing. If he wasn't named in the best for Willy 2's, by any means, that would be laughable, just goes to show its not a great achievement. Martin Clarke kicked 5.0. Chris Egan kicked 2.5. I know which one I would want in the Collingwood side next week.

Egan HAS played senior football and performed well. If you think Clarke should get a game ahead of him then you need to put down the crack pipe my friend. Marty is coming along nicely but he isn't even close to senior selection, Ego will get a chance soon and will have an impact when he does.

I thought Egan played really well last year.
Can't really see any room for him in the side at the moment though.
With Holland, Medhurst, Bucks, Lonie to come back into the side.

The problem with Egan, is that he has got speed in a funny lopeing way,has got good goal prowess, but he is gutless.Hates going in for the ball,he seems scared when an opponent is near him.He hates doing the one percenters, and in most cases gets lazy ,he wants the ball delivered to him always.I have seen him chase a few times ,then gives up,not good for a top 10 pick.
That's why he is playing in the willy reserves. He can't even make the grade with willy who is he gonna get into the seniors?Must lift his game.

It was pointed out on another site that the number after the goals actually referred to best, and not behinds/points.

Clarke at 5.1 meant he was #1/BOG and kicked 5, whereas Eags was #5 with 2 goals.

I reckon I am not even remotely concerned with his development at this stage. He's the type who will shine at a better level and when he's played in his appropriate position. He's coming back from an injury lay off and is getting heavily involved at whatever level he plays, irrespective of some funny decision making.

But at least we got the Chad with Egan... instead of that hack Lewis currently averaging 29 disposals that Hawthorn chose with our pick we swapped for them... no I'm not bitter at all

He was playing in the Willy 2's because the Willy 1's had a bye and they obviously want to get as much game time into him as possible.

But it is a concern that after getting rocket up the clacker and being sent down to Willy for half of last season to work on accountability, 1%'ers etc, that he is back down there this season still working on the same stuff

I agree with FIGJAM. Egan is kind of a project player. Seems funny to say that about a top 10 pick, but they rate him very Highly. I think they just want to educate him, teach him some professionalism, application, make him really earn his spot in the ones. Anyone who saw his last 8 games of 06 will know he can play.

Regarding the 'He is playing willi reserves'. I don't think that is a reflection of form. Willi had a bye in the seniors. I think they just wanted to give the kid another run as he is coming off injury. I think it is more a reflection that he is not far away from senior selection so they wanted to keep him playing rather than have a week off. After all - he was named emergency on ANZAC Day.

How long does this excuse about only playing well in the seniors do the rounds before we accept he's fecking lazy

Maybe it's just because I'm now officially an old fart, but the lack of patience on here is disturbing!

The kid can play. He'll play AFL again pretty soon!

I'm not an old fart (I don't think anyway) and I agree. Leave the kid to develop at his own pace and save these threads for if he gets delisted or traded.

I suppose FIGJAM is right we should give the guy a go.But it will be harder to crack the one's this time around as someone else pointed out earlier, that we will have medhurst, holland, licuria d..ck,waiting to break into the one's before him,so he'll have to show his wares.

Why isn't Egan in the senior team at the moment? It's a sad indictment on Collingwood that first-year players are picked before Chris Egan. I keep hearing he played some good footy last year, so how come he hasn't played a game in the seniors this year; surely he should be in senior team if he is the future at Collingwood or have I lost my marbles.

They're part of todays fast food generation, I want it all and I want it NOW!!! He's not the finished product by a long way but I remember something Yabby Jeans once said, a player must have ability, Ego has talent the rest will come on time.

He has been injured. and i can think of a hell of lot more things that could go wrong much worse than out first year players stepping up and looking great.

He's coming along just fine - They wouldn't be taking the time to teach him new skills like defensive ability if they were going to turf him at year's end.

They KNOW what he can do up forward, so they're trying to give him a defensive side to his game by playing him in the backline at Williamstown.

He'll be back in the side before the year is out.

Ego is an immensely talented player, fine skills, decent pace, silky mover.

The challenge before him is to lift his intensity & desperation, work on his defensive game, lift his 1%ers and not be afraid to go in and put his head over the ball.

Has all the talent in the world, but has to learn to do these things and learn them quickly or, his career could be over before he works out where it went.

If he is committed and learns to do these things he could mature into a damned fine footballer.

You can sometimes get by on talent alone in the bush-leagues and juniors but, you have to have reasonable amounts of the whole package and be prepared to do the hardwork to make it in the big show.

He consistently gets played out of position at Willi - playing as a defensive HB or back pocket and then he comes into the seniors and plays Forward. This consistently happens at Collingwood and REALLY annoys me.
Tristen Walker was a dud but he was a bigger dud because everytime they brought him into the seniors they played him at the other end of the ground then when he was at Willi.

Fair enough trying to teach Egan some defensive skills and to be accountable but give him a 1/4 up back and then let him develop his skills forward so he learns that position for the ones! He was very handy in the last 5 games of last year and was one of few options going forward in the final.

I'm happy with Egan learning accountability by playing in defence. He'll come out a better player because of it.
