What kind of electric shaver do you have and how much did you pay? Dropped mine in a fishpond a while back and looking to buy a new one for around 100 bucks or so. Reccommendations?

$100 won't get you anything good. Just scratch your skin and give you a rash.

I'd spend double that and get something at least decent which will last a few years.

Have a Phillips (Valentines Day present a few years back) but rarely use it. There's a misconception IMO that electric shavers dont give you as close a shave. I reckon they do, just hate cleaning the ****ers.

Bitch of a job, particularly if you leave it a while before cleaning.

So the consensus is you have to spend around $200 minimum to get a good electric shaver?

Pretty much. Unless you are like Rove and do not have any facial hair and so do not have to shave at all.

Bought that one last year, mate working at harvey norman knocked a whole whack off it when it was at $200.

I don't like buying all the blades for the razors, I feel that the investment in an electric shaver most likely will save me money over time.

But I agree with the poster who said that cleaning is a bitch. Cleaned mine last night! So time consuming!

How much do I have to spend for a decent one that is either, water-proof so I can just rinse the bastard after use like Black Flag alluded to, or is one of those self-cleaning ones? Also, how good are those self-cleaning shavers anyway?

Pretty good!

I have a Braun, similar to this one:-

Not cheap, but looks brand new after cleaning, with zero hassle.

Just blow out the bulk, and put on the clean cycle.

Takes about 15 minutes.

You don't need those cleaning devices. I think you need to keep buying some cleaning fluid for them to work. And you initial cost goes up.

Two cartridges cost around $20, and each lasts about 6 months for the frequency I run the cleaning.

The fluid is recycled through the unit so doesnt get "used" up quickly.

I used to have an electric one never felt it did the job well then switched to razors. But all my electric ones would have been no more than 80 dollars, so reading here general consensus is, spend a decent amount on it, and that the self cleaning ones aren't actually a load of wank. Might head in to a Shaver Shop and have a chat with them then.

Just my opinion, but those cleaning devices are a gimmick. Selling cleaning fluid is a way for them to keep the customer spending money on his/her shaver.

Not saying they don't work, but rinsing under a tap takes a few seconds for a 100% clean shaver is a breeze.

You'll spend less on the shaver, not have to buy fluid and not have to look at some cheap, plastic, breakable, cleaning stand.

Just my opinion... if you really want all that useless crap, go for it.
