The full quote:
"Edwards is only able to be selected as a priority by Collingwood, who they have committed to. Should the Pies go back on that, he will then be fair game in the draft pool, where he could be picked up by any AFL Club."

The smallest midget of them all. I can't see the point of committing to the smallest AFL draftee of all time. He would need to have the talent of a Gary Ablett to convince me to take him.

He's bloody fast, obviously needs to put weight on though, i'm not overly concerned about his height, not much we can do about that, i'm sure he has a massive leap.

I'll be livid if we don't pick him up in the rookie draft.

He's essentially a low risk high reward type player, well that's the case with all rookies isn't it.

The rookie list is a great way to find players that aren't your stock standard. A good way to find diamonds in the rough and I think Edwards fits that bill.

No it doesn't Dave, sounds like he is ours if we want him, thats all.

Well Reading the Whole Thing it says if we Go Back on this then Teams be all over Elijah

I will spew if we pick this kid up, wont go in the top 60 - and he is 5 foot 2

Well - How would you Know That?

What be wrong of Drafting him as a Rookie?

Smallest? No where near it.

He's listed as 167cm;

Here's a few that were shorter;

Libba; 163cm
Daniel Craven; 162cm
James Bradford 154cm:eek: (Played in the 1940's)

And some others at a similar height;

Filandia; 168cm (so about the same)
Neade; 170cm
Tony Francis; 171cm

So he's not breaking any records at 167cm.

We should list him, it doesn't cost us a rookie spot for the first year I believe and after that we'd know if he's any chance at making it all.

Summed it up Perfectly. As a Rookie there is no real Risk and He does have a High Upside

One midget too rule them all.

Buckley and the seven Dwarves.

and just for LOLS from a meme site:

To be honest, short is short. If he adds on another few inches, he's still short and won't be able to compete in marking contests still. 5 foot 2, 5 foot 7, really don't think it'll make a huge amount of difference.

I'd be more interested in his body shape. Core strength, balance, lateral movement etc. That's what will define him as a player I'd say. Can anyone shed some light on the above?

His kicking wasn't that flash last year from reports, it will have to improve for him to make it given he doesn't find a lot of it and at his size is purely outside.

Little risk popping him on the rookie list though.

On watching him, id be rather certain he wont be going in that range.

I would consider drafting him as a late rookie selection.

Im just so over picking up short people, its the last thing we need.

If you want Big Bodies then we should Just Trade our Picks then.

As you won't get Big Bodies from Kids in the Draft.

It be only be a Rookie Pick

No evidence presented to suggest we've committed to anything at all. Also, this piece was written by one of the people behind that Trade Week Facebook page that seem to have a "post anything even remotely true" policy so I wouldn't be putting too much stock in it. The player summaries are pretty impressive though. Until the club come out and say we've committed to him, which I'm not sure Hine will do prior the draft, I'm not counting him as an official player.

We do need some line-breaking pace on our list. But can a 167cm player make it in today's game?

As for drafting him, well, being a NSW Scholarship player, Edwards can be taken with our last pick in the rookie draft and listed as a "Category B" rookie. Clubs can have up to 3 of these Category B rookies, who sit outside the regular (or "Category A") rookie list. Currently, our Category B rookies are Mooney, Hartley and Richmond.

We would lose nothing by taking Edwards as a Category B rookie, but in order to do so, we have to move on one of the 3 existing Category B rookies, either by promoting them to the senior list or de-listing them. If we don't and still insist on drafting Edwards, we would need to find a place for him on either the regular rookie list or the senior list...
