Great songwriter. Pump it Up is such a good song.

Watching the Detectives is a great song but I couldn't find a decent clip on youtube.

I wanted to add a clip of Alison (my favourite Elvis Costello song) but You Tube's failing for me
Yeah, unfortunately no good Alison versions on youtube it seems.

This will have to suffice.

I have serious man crush issues for Elvis Costello - every time I have seen him live over the last twenty five years [******** I am old] he has blown me away = Nerdy Cool Roos!

hehe.I find it hard not to wax about Elvis myself.

Apart from a brief and strange foray into country around the 'good year for the roses' ,he's been mighty influential, and prolific.

The old stuff is still his best for mine.Let the self indulgence continue. :D

And Elvis also produced one of the best (imo) albums of that late 70's early 80's era.

"I want you" is my favourite Costello song.
That song scares the sh*t out of me. Its completely unhinged.

You can almost hear his veins opening up with each neurotic phrase and the way he twists and intensifies the song's title over and over and each one in a different and just as completely messed up way as the one preceding it.

You're just waiting to hear the gunshot by the end of the song.

And it surely has to be a candidate for the best 2 note guitar solo ever recorded?

The man is a musical genius, pure and simple.

I started making a list of my favourite Elvis tunes and soon realised I was naming virtually every song off his first 3 records. Not a bad way to begin your career really! :thumbsu:

Any Elvis fans should pick up his Right Spectacle DVD if you haven't already got it. It has music videos for 27 of his songs from 1978-1994, an hour or so of special features, and a commentary track to the music videos by the great man himself. JB had it going out for $10 last I saw. Cheap at twice the price!

I wish I read that earlier - what a steal! In the bargain music DVD section at JB Bourke St I assume?

My Aim Is True

The worlds introduction to the musical world of Elvis Costello. The Young 22yr old at the time of recording had energy to burn and songs to go. This was punched out in 24hrs with producer Nick Lowe who was pivitol in establishing his sound. At this point in time EC didnt have a band as such but these songs proved that he really had a good vision of what sound he wanted. A sign of greater things to come. Not that this collection of songs isnt great anyway..

Take the opener welcome to the working week a fantastic 80 second slice of pop with punk attitude. But if your expecting 13 working weeks you will be dissapointed. For a debut it does cover a fair bit of ground. There are the short sharp songs like mystery dance a fantastic ode to 50's rock. the more groove based blame it on cain and some classic balladry with allison

Going through the album you get the feeling these guys are onto something good. Its not untill the final few songs though that its something great. Waiting for the end of the world is one of my fav costello songs that establishes that massive drum sound that was fully realised later on.. watching the detectives an out and out classic that features Steve Nieve on Piano and organ who would later be a permanent member of the attractions

This Years Model

Every Music fan should have a copy of this album. Even if your not into EC that much. Every song is just so enjoyable on some level. The Band along with producer Nick Lowe really created their own sound with this one. My aim is true was an intro to costellos fav kind of music..but this album seemed to be his music, his sound..his take on it. Every instrument more unique on this, more confident and just sounding fantastic allround. The attractions rythm section being one of the best out there..

Its all about the push and pull factors of love. love explained from a young dorky geek who cant seem to get much..and when he does it goes all wrong.Song for Song its one of Costello's sharpest. prob the pick from this early stuff. Classic

I got tickets for Elvis' show in October yesterday.

I love this guy. His latest album, Secret, Profane And Sugarcane is magnificent.

I have managed to never see him despite other opportunities. Not gonna miss this one.

At the Fremantle Arts Centre too, great venue.
