The two best rappers of this decade for sure, who is better?

Been a big debate for quite some time now, love to see what you guys think. I personally believe Eminem shits all over Jay-Z, but I always think differently to others.

Thoughts?

They collaborated some time ago, hard to separate them in this song though.

Both overrated imho.

But if I had to choose one I'd say Em is comfortably in front. Has released more good tracks* and when he gets serious he has a much better rapping style (ie when he's not putting on that stupid f**king cartoon voice he does half the time).

*(that I've heard anyway - if anyone can point me in the direction of some decent Jay Z shit I'll give it a listen, but I haven't been impressed with most of his well known stuff I've heard)

What have you heard from Jay Z?

What have you heard from Jay Z?

Mainly his later stuff that has been released as singles - none of it has particularly inspired me enough to actually listen to his whole albums. From what I've heard I find him to be more Hip Pop than Hip Hop.

Some that come to mind:

Dirt off your shoulders (like the beat but the rapping ain't nuthin special)

99 problems (very average)

Here Come the Boys (love Punjabi's tune but again the rapping ain't nuthin special)

LaLaLa (average with an annoying beat)

Renegade (nice beat but Ems verse shits all over JayZ's)

Run this Town (a bit pop-like but I quite like it)

Empire State of Mind (love Key's chorus but find the rapping pretty average)

Let me educate you.

Heard that first one before but... yeah nah... there's just something about him that doesn't click with me.

His rhyming always seems off kilter and out of time with the beat. I appreciate that that's his style but it just doesn't do anything for me. Heaps of better rappers out there who don't get the same exposure - hence me saying he's overrated.

In my experience guys like Jay Z and Kanye West are the sort of rappers that are liked by MTV teenyboppers who don't actually like real hip hop. Not saying that everyone who likes them are like that but they do tend to appeal to the pop audience a lot.

Hell, my 14yo sister has Jay Z on her ipod and she hates hip hop.

Eminem easily. That being said bp3>>>relapse. Jayz has hardly any classic tracks just a lot of good ones. Empire state of mind is his first number 1 and only because alicia keys killed it. I don't have much respect for the guy he only cares about himself.

New york state of mind>>>>>Empire state of mind.

Agreed Rdub.

Have a listen to this burn of JayZ

Lol bringing out all your aliases hey Pav?

Definitely agree with your wolfman though. Nas > Em & Jay Z.

And early Nas >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Em and Jay Z

Especially Halftime which is one of my fav hip hop tracks ever.

lol here we go. In the aim of trying to keep it comparing the two,

Jay-Z>Em

Both have been massively influential on the genre. If you asked the same question about 5 years ago, Em probally would have won but he's lost his way abit. Need the angry, Hailey's Song, Eminem back.

Wouldn't say they are the two best hip hop acts of the decade though.

Jay Z is the better performed of the two... strictly due to longevity and number of classic or great albums released...

lets Break it down....

Jay Z.....

Reasonable Doubt - First album... released in 96... Classic album... if you dont have it... get it... its on par with illmatic...
Blueprint... great album...its impact on hiphop at the time was huge... it was the start of the Jay and Nas beef...with the track Takeover...
Black album....another great album....
after this... Jay has fallen the **** off.... and yeah... I can understand that hearing him now he could be considered whack....

Eminem.... to me Eminem had a great album in slim shady LP and a classic in Mashall Mathers LP.... I actually prefer Slim Shady Lp just as a listen... But the later album had much more substance and feeling to it...

since then I dont think that any of his albums could be rated above avereage/good....

Both WERE great emcees.... just not anymore....

some old Jay for those who forgot...

kills this with big l....

So give me one more platinum plaque
And **** Rap! You can have it it back

Jay-Z overall is much better.

Eminem had the talent to be more than he was, but he never put the focus into producing significant music - Most of the time, he'd rather do trash like "Just Lose It" and "We Made You" than genuine masterpieces like "Mosh", "Lose Yourself" and "Stan".

I do dispute that those two are the best of the decade though - Lupe Fiasco's two albums trump all released by both combined and Nas is still showing Jay-Z why he ended their beef as the winner, undisputed. Outkast too - Stankonia and Speakerboxx/The Love Below pretty much stand in the face of whatever you could put up.

The two best rappers of this decade for sure

First off, not even close to being true. Biggest selling, probably.

As far as rappers, Eminem is far more skilled. Jay-Z isn't in the same ballpark.

Jay-Z's albums have had consistently better production though.

im bias, so i have to go with Em

i thought The Black Album and Blueprint was quite good though, BP2 was ok, never listened to AG or KC

forget the discussion though, check out Em and Jay perform Renegade, a personal fav of mine:thumbsu:

they performed it again this year for the DJ Hero game, but i prefer the first one

The last song on Relapse, or Part 1 of his confirmed song for Relapse 2 "Insult To Injury"

This is that old Eminem you guys seem to love, just shows he still has it. Don't forget Relapse was his comeback album, shaking off the cobwebs, wait for Relapse 2 and tell me who you think the better rapper is.

Also off Refill, a song with his serious side, shows he still has it.
