I laugh every time I walk past the church on the corner of Williams and Hay on my way down to the train station, I just wish they could see how stupid they actually look....

Whoa! So many misconceptions. Ok, let me clear things up. Emo's are NOT goths. They are an adolescent American social class in public highschools. They are very much the opposite to a highchool jock. They are social outcasts, and often find themselves ridiculed by jocks. In fact, emos aren't really non-conformists like goths. They just don't want to be popular simply because they think popular people (jocks) are ********s.

"Emo" means emotional. Although "Emotionally unstable" is the more accurate term. - Hence the wrist slashing that's associated with them. They don't hate everyone and everything. They hate themselves.

Now, the music itself is very different. Goth music is dark and disturbed. Emo music is there to empower their culture. Often there are references to depressed behaviour, but there's also a lot of "lashing back" being described. - Which is a positive feeling amoungst emos.

MCR are not an emo band, but they are liked by emos (and non-emos I'll add). It's a harsh tag to be given, and one that does them no justice at all. They are extremely talened musicians, and songwriters. Some of the best amoungst popular music today. They are alternate. Unfortunately, they wear a god-aweful black uniform that makes them look emo. It would also seem that no amount of hair bleech can change their perception now. The poor bastards are gonna be called emo for a very long time.

I agree with what you are saying, but i think they really hate 'jocks' because they aren't one of them, and are too weird to ever be one. In reality i think 'emo' is a great trend for those i suppose i will call them 'less popular' people. It kind of unites a great amount of them and gives them alot more social power than ever before.

But that said i still disagree with it. I find the music sad and depressing, and i will never ever understand why you would want to be part of a trend/fashion/culture that supports this. I mean dark clothing, girls jeans, make up, depressing music. Wheres the fun in that?

All the emo's i know are just so up and down.

Nah, not all of them, take my brother for example. He dresses up in "Emo" clothes and listens to "Emo" music, ie. My Chemical Romance. But he promised to never slit his wrists, and I will hold him to his word.

Yep i dress like that, probably listen to the same music, doesnt mean we cut ourself. Ok look emo is a type of music. lets get this clear emo is short for emotional, now bands like MCR and the used are not emo. Dashboard confessionals are emo because they sing emotional music. You dont have to be dressed in black to be emo, MCR dress black because thats how they express themsleves. Dashboard do not dress in black but they are emo.
