Cats In The Cradle -Chapin

'' my son turned 10 just the other day
thanks for the ball come on lets play''

(time of your life) - Greenday

Cool Change - LRB

I knew a gent in Ballaraat who lost it listening to Convoy , the theme of a community coming together to help a kid was too much for him

I can't believe I know this...but...don't you mean "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine. Similiar era to "Convoy".

Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins always gets me for some reason.

Hallelujah has been mentioned umpteen times. I don't think I could listen to it more than once every six months it's that powerful.

Not so much for the lyrics but the way it is delivered Something In The Way by Nirvana is also a bleak tune. Nirvana's cover of Leadbelly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is also worth a mention.

Pearl Jam - I Am Mine

Surely it deserves a honorable mention

Yes...

I can’t believe the news today
Oh, I can’t close my eyes and make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

’cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under children’s feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won’t heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday bloody sunday...)
(allright lets go!)

And the battle’s just begun
There’s many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday

How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

’cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Tonight...

Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
Tonight
Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
(come get some!)

Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Wipe your tears away
I wipe your tears away
(sunday, bloody sunday)
I wipe your blood shot eyes
(sunday, bloody sunday)

Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
(here I come!)

And it’s true we are immune
When fact is fiction and tv reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

The real battle yet begun (sunday, bloody sunday)
To claim the victory jesus won (sunday, bloody sunday)
On...

Sunday bloody sunday
Sunday bloody sunday...

sorry linus ... dont want to be dishonourable to a like-minded .... but was not written after Roskilde

from an interview with ed in 2002:

Q: On I Am Mine, you sing "i know that im born and i know that i'll die, the in between is mine. is this about living up to being alive?

Ed: i wrote that song the night before we played the first show after the roskilde thing. it was a reminder to myself that its going to be ok. theyre going to be safe, and theres still something good that happens when we're communal together".

Recently broke up with my girlfriend of a couple of years so:
Lonely Day - System of a Down
Blood to Bleed - Rise Against
have both got to me.

I'm also always up for:
Aerials - System of a Down
End of the Tour - They Might Be Giants (it's about a guy who kills a group of high school girls in a car crash and how he can't get over it even though it was their fault)
The Ballad - Millencolin
Brick - Ben Folds Five

Don't know how i could have missed this one in my earlier post. never fails.

Old Tige - Jim Reeves

Tige, you were faithful, faithful to the end
Tige, how I miss you, you were my best friend

Three years of army service done, and I was heading home at last
I got to thinkin' about my dog, and things long gone past
How Old Tige pulled me from the creek when I had no pulse or breath
Or how he saved me from the charging bull that gored my Dad to death
As a kid I'd dream of bears and tremble to my toes
Till Old Tige would come up to my bed and nudge me with his nose
Then my fears would melt away, and i'd drift on back to sleep without a sound.

The big bus stopped and I got off, it was awful dark and thick with fog
Then something gently nuzzled me, and there stood Tige, my dog
i wondered if my faithful dog had met the bus each day
And all those dreary winter nights that i'd been away
Three long miles still lay ahead but what i didn't know
A giant dam was being built where the old road used to go
i thanked the Lord for sending Tige, and followed where he led
knowing well that without his help, i'd be good as dead
Tige inched along this way and that going rough and slow
And I could hear the water lapping at the ledges, far below.

Then through the mist, I saw a light and Mother in her chair
And I reached down to pat old Tige - but he wasn't there
I thank you Mum, for having Tige these last three years, i owe my life to him tonight
I couldn't help my tears
You say you wrote me about the dam? Well God was sure with us.
I hate to tell you Son,she said, but now you've gotta know.
When you left, it broke his heart.
Tige died - three years ago.

Coldplay – Yellow, Fix You, Amsterdam and I can't go past the Scientist. Just IMO but it's the best song I've ever heard.

And how can you not go past Black by Pearl Jam.

'I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, In somebody else's sky, But why, why, why can't it be mine.....'

Also some Cat Stevens and U2 go alright as well.

Broke up with my X last year and frigging songs keep reminding me of damn old, done-and-dusted feelings for her....
I wonder if certain songs were made to stir up feelings of Teenage boys and there girlfriends?

Bumped this because i just completely forgot the main one for me - Tracy Chapman's " Fast Car '
Sixteen years of marriage summed up in 4 minutes 58 seconds.
