Emotions may just be part of the brain's though process responding to certain situations, but whether you can control this is another thing!

I mean honestly, who has been at the footy or played any sport for that matter where the umpire has made a bad decision and you get angry about it???? Practically everyone I would think, this leads us to the point of why do you get angry, it is just an automatic response which I don't believe can be changed.

Emotions can be controlled to some extent, but you can't stop yourself from feeling certain ways and if you could, everyone would just walk around like Zombies. You could kill someone in the street without a second thought, and the people around you wouldn't care either....ok, maybe not!;)

:)

Everyone would be different. But for me it would be fear.

It's a programmed response ... you can programme yourself to not let it affect you.

I usually couldn't care less about bad umpiring decisions once they've been made -- there is absolutely nothing (be it an emotion or action) that I can do that will change the outcome, so I'm not gonna let someone's decision in a game that I'm not even involved in get to me.

Even on here you can see people getting defensive at having their team or favourite player called dirty, mindless thugs (guess who  :D) ... you can either let it affect you and let it get you angry/worked up, or you can analyse it for what it is (some bloke behind a computer screen trying to insult you and your team), ignore it and think nothing of it.

There's obvious exceptions, such as Dave's example about having a family member killed -- but even then, in some cultures people are brought up to view death as a time to 'celebrate' the life of the person who has passed, instead of crying/mourning what they've lost. I'm not necessarily saying we can control it given the society that we've been brought up in... but if that was the only way we had learned to treat/view death since day one, we would have different emotions when experiencing it, to what we have now.

Anger and jealousy -- Don't know about the strongest, but they're the most dangerous emotions IMO, anyway.
