Lets not get too excited about the hawks win.

We are a team that has a lot of older players, and a lot of young players. Some days things will click and beat the premiers, and others we wont score a goal for 2 quarters.

That is the ride of 2009. The old players are still good, but injuries will hit them harder. And young players will play above themselves until other coaches work them out.

The current form of the first two rounds just reinforces this.

That's nice. I don't think anyone is getting carried away by Saturday night's win. It was a very lovely thing after round 1's showing. Everybody is taking it with a healthy dose of realism. No need to put more of a dampener on things.

Agreed, not cool mate. We're well aware that Renouf was rucking on his own, Mitchell had the 'flu' and so on. We don't expect to beat teams like Geelong, Collingwood and Adelaide over night, but that goes unspoken, no need to actually rub it in.

We're all well aware of how poorly we can play, the St Kilda game was horrific and I doubt anyone has forgotten it. The majority of us want to just enjoy a fine win and soak it up, no need for a lecture on how it can all go wrong.

Did you top your class in Stating the Obvious 101?

Why is everyone jumping down grayham's throat? I agree with much of what he has had to say. I was as happy as anybody after the Hawks win, but some of the parading that went on was a little over the top (or at least appeared to be so).

As I said in another thread, we need to take this season a game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves.

Welcome back to the Swans board grayham. I hope you are here around more regularly. You have plenty to offer this board.

He's just said a whole bunch of stuff that could be applied to most of the other teams in the competition.

From a personal perspective the reason I'm excited by Saturday nights win is that the form of our younger players is exceeding my expectations. I really didn't think we'd get too much out of Grundy and White but they both look like they could become very good players. The other reason is the improvement in middle tier players like LRT (I told you all he would dominate once his body was right) and Richards (What a gun!).

We're all aware it's going to be a roller coaster ride but I think we have genuine reason to be excited about the long term future of the team.

In Roosy we trust.

Yep, MF echoes the majority of my thoughts on the game.

Bird is looking like a real find, White could be anything, Grundy seems to finally be developing into the player we all hoped he could be, and Meredith was as clean as a whistle and looked very composed. Add Vez to that group and our youngsters are looking pretty damn good!

I think LRT is settled now and Teddy will always be a solid contributor, still have a few question marks over Jack, Moore and also Schmidt who obviously didn't play. I'd love one of them to really develop into something special and hopefully we blood another KPP this year to top it off.

Oh and Grayham, that night on Channel Ten I saw an add for the Round 4 Sydney vs Carlton clash, so don't go posting another thread on the main board about poor advertising... :thumbsd:

Grayham! Good on you for getting some discussion started but I think some of the other guys are right.
For starters, 12 of the 16 teams are in the SAME boat as us or worse because only 4 teams have won both of their games! It happens in this comp. Hell...............even the Tigers gave Geelong a fright the other day.................BOO....................but the Cats didn't really flinch. They had a bad patch & weren't too convincing. The reigning premiers are the ones that could be in real trouble if they don't smarten up soon. Injuries or no injuries, fact is that they had all their main stars out on the ground & were beaten convincingly by their direct Swans opponents. That's an attitude thing in my opinion. The only one at the Swans to have had a similar attidude under Roos coaching was ONE Nick Davis!! Remember him?

As for our Bloods, have no fear because at least you know that if they are fit & well, they'll always have a crack. The Saints game that many fellow supporters have been critical about was actually not a bad result in hindsight.
The Saints look as though they are no slouches & we happened to play them at a stadium that has become a fortress for them where I can't remember the last time they lost. You'll agree that it was about as bad a game we have seen our boys play under Paul Roos yet we still managed to get back to within 15 points in the end. Doesn't matter how.......we did! Refer to the Adelaide game where the Crows beat the Magpies the week before at the MCG. Not an easy task, yet they were shut down by The Saints with heavy tackling, much as we were rendered useless by the same tackling.

Yes..................we had a very hard game so it may have taken it's toll on the boys for our game against Brisbane but hey! Could you imagine following the Dockers???

No.......................I reckon as supporters, we have NO reason to whinge about a loss UNTIL we know for a fact that the guys aren't trying at all in ANY period of any given game.

This is not something I've seen raise it's ugly head for quite a few years now.

Go Bloods!!;)

Why not? Personally, I did not see any advertising for the game on Saturday night. I also live about 15 minutes from the stadium.

You cannot use a future example to dismiss a past comment about a past outcome.
I hope he is on the AFL board defending the Swans and our crowds. Grayham, don't listen to them.

ALSO. You do realise that when he mentions poor advertising, he is attacking the AFL and not the Swans?? The AFL takes care of all marketing of the game, and that includes promotions of games.

By the way... Why are we consoling ourselves with the fact that "it looks like St Kilda are a quality side".

How is that any excuse for the inept performance of the 2nd and 3rd quarters? Don't console yourself with the 4th quarter either, because the Saints clearly took the foot off the pedal.

We played rubbish in the first match. The second match was much improved, albeit against weakened opposition.

Maybe you missed my point.

I, personally, are not going in with any expectations this year. I'm just going to enjoy the ride. I didnt get hung up on the saints loss, and appart from winding up a few hawks, I'm not reading much into beating the hawks.

Its going to be a great fun season. Much better than 07 and 08 where there was expectation, in my mind at least, that we could snatch one more flag out of this era.

And, Stats_machine, I honestly did not see many ads for the AFL in Sydney this year.

We just took OUR foot off the pedal in the 2nd & 3rd Qs against the saints & also in the 1st Q against the Hawks!

I'm consoled in the fact that we can beat ANYONE with these lapses in a game yet many other teams can't even get close.

It's a long year Mase. We'll be there at the end.........................yet AGAIN!

And again after the first few rounds next year we'll be reading the same negative stuff about our Bloods from both sides of the fence.
That's 'consoling' too for me!
I wouldn't want it any other way as a Swans supporter!!

Cheers!

Huh? Why would we take our foot off the pedal in the middle of a game? You don't really believe that, do you?

I agree we'll be thereabouts again. I predict we'll finish somewhere between 5-12, such is the evenness of the competition.
