I really wanna know, what legend escaped my eyes on saturday?

Re: Does Franklin have a Case to Answer?

Bit touchy on the Lewis v Boris aren't we? It was gamesmanship, getting in your opponents head and it seemed to work, Enright had his worst game of the year. Still think verballing and legend of the game after the siren shows a much greater lack of class and humility.

ahahah like you really give a shit about Robert Harvey. You're such a noble soul

I cant believe Buddy got off. How you can hit someone from behind with head high contact and also being a late hit and get off is beyond me. The fact that people are saying that he made contact with Lonergans shoulder first has no impact on the decision what so ever. If I recall players have been told that if you lay a bump instead of a tackle and make head high contact (even if accidental) then they will be suspended. Even to classify it as a bump and not a strike is hard to believe.

Well when i saw it live I thought he shouldn't go.
After seeing the replays last night I can't believe he didn't go.
It was just such a stupid thing to do and there was plenty of intent.

I am far more surprised Enright was cleared than Franklin.
As am I - but Enright was not even mentioned in the incidents assessed. Seems MRP didn't see anything untoward. The only thing I thought would have helped Enright's case - had he been cited - was that it was during the contest and his eyes were closed at impact.

But I'm certainly not going to complain! :D

I had the complete opposite reaction. Seeing it at the ground, I mentioned to my mate that we'll have to make do with no Buddy next week.

But then I saw the replay, and I'm not sure how you can possibly have gone sour on him? Actually not as late as I initially thought (there's a photo on the previous page of the contact, and the ball hasn't reached Lonergan's foot yet), and he struck his arm, sliding up to the head. That's not an intentional or reckless or negligent strike to the head. That's a graded strike to the arm. Quite frankly, it's a "who cares" strike.

You can't expect him to have thought a bump was a better idea??? :D

The "head is sacrosanct" notion has been well and truly debunked this season. Just last week Mitchell got collected in the head by Griffen's elbow. No case to answer. It's simply not as easy as saying the head is sacrosanct anymore. It isn't the case. The AFL use it if it suits their argument.

Late or not - he was never actually going to smother the kick (or even touch the ball) by going above the shoulder, and he had the option of grabbing Lonergan's torso to put him off-balance and affect the kick. So one could argue that he made unnecessary contact to Lonergan's head, when there was an option to tackle.

But it's all a non-issue anyway as he was not cited, and both Franklin and Enright play next week.

Realise it's a moot point now as nothing came of it, but at what stage of the match was the incident with Enright that some thought would see him rubbed out, can't recall it to be honest.

Assuming I have been thinking of the same incident as everyone else, it was pretty much here:

However, seeing it again I can't believe I even thought it would be looked at - absolutely nothing in it, and Lewis barely reacted. I think some recollections (mine included) were probably influenced by the tension of the game at the time.

Watching the game last night on replay (I was at the game) they didnt even show the replay of the incident. I think Lewis helped his cause because he didnt stay down, he jumped straight up. This helped because it went then went unnoticed by the commentators. If he had of milked it though I reckon he would have been in trouble. Its funny though, they showed the replay of it at the ground shortly after the incident and you can hear a loud "oooooow" by the crowd.

Thanks for that.
Yeah I do recall that incident but like you didn't think there was much in it.

I'll check it out when I watch the replay again [ for the third time :) ]

They edited some pretty good stuff out, Varcoe's run down of Franklin for instance, pretty cheesed off at that.

Interesting, as others are saying at the ground I'd sure he'd cop a week or two. Maybe the lack of replay saved him. There was a replay at the ground from a different angle which looked nasty.
