There were no issues people calling out McGovern for being fat and unfit, just saying

This is what we don't want:

* Name calling and abuse towards players, re their skills, position in the team, what kind of vegetable they remind you of, parentage etc. If you dislike a player in terms of the way they play, it is easy enough to articulate that in a more constructive way

It gets even funnier. Whoever started the petition wrote an impassioned call to arms to the Bombers faithful.:laughv1:

We have witnessed the rise and fall of a legend of our football club, and in the darkest time in our history, we should rise up together, both James Hird and the Essendon Football Club. James Hird is not only a legendary player but also an iconic coach whose return could bring a new era of success and camaraderie to Essendon.

Throughout his career, Hird demonstrated unparalleled commitment, talent, and leadership, qualities that are much needed at the Essendon Football Club today. As a Brownlow Medallist and two-time premiership player, his records speak volumes of his contribution to the team and the sport. His coaching tenure, though marred with controversy, showed potential and promise, making him the right candidate to guide Essendon into a future filled with triumphs and pride.

Edit: I like the way he or she downplays the whole drugs scandal thing in the sentence i highlighted in bold font.😄

I was wondering was this a wind up at first but no they're actually serious.:laughv1:
When I really started getting into the AFL, Buckley, Voss and Hird were among players that I was in awe of what they could do on the field (many others as well, including our own like SOS). But there's an * alongside Hird's name now. I've got questions in my mind about Hird's recovery from his navicular injury. I've said it before, but I am hoping Essendon can achieve a culture reset, but that drug scandal casts a long shadow...

The Essendon Football Club has always been a significant part of our lives, a place where countless memories have been made. However, it is clear that we are currently at a crossroads in terms of performance and spirit. The club needs a change in direction, and what better way than to bring back someone who embodies the club's essence and determination? James Hird can provide the motivation and strategic insight needed to tackle present challenges and to restore Essendon to its former glory.

The night is always darkest before the dawn and let James Hird be our Gandalf the White, the one to lead us to the promised land.

Join us in calling on the Essendon Football Club to bring back James Hird as a pivotal part of our team. Let us create a future where our club rises once again to the top echelons of AFL. Sign this petition and help us bring back the spirit of Essendon through the return of a true legend, James Hird.

Calling 21 years of no finals wins a “crossroads” is superbly naive.

They are after "Gandalf the White" as their midfield is full of hobbits?

Essendon and drugs. Didn’t expect to see those phrases together.

I have been both shocked to be sitting here and educated at the same time.

Now I know what a “shit eating grin” looks like. Thank you Tom Morris.

He is insufferable... this happened in June why is it being reported now

Look at me journalist

Recreational drugs would be a problem at every club, BUT....

It's still funny (and ironic) that * players are like 'You stepped over the line when you warned us against taking drugs'...
It's amazing that the AFL gives lip service to being anti-drug, but they don't do out of season testing and they give the clubs warning when they're going to be rolling around to do a drug test.

Forget this... Essendon and drugs... the story continues (albeit in a different form)...
