If you get a chance to watch the Kevin Sheedy interview by Tim Watson on Bomber TV it's a must.

Sheeds goes into some detail on what his vision for this club is. In short, he will be working hard to return the club to the bold, aggressive, ambitious and courageous club it once was and wants the fans to be repaid for the last 3 years of 'hell'.

This brings us to post ASADA. Irrespective of the outcome, Sheeds implores the fans to stick by the club in it's darkest hour.

How can we harness adversity and rebound as a stronger and more powerful club? How can we use the last 3 years as a steak in the ground and emerge a better club? How can we ensure the clubs stakeholders unite and strengthen their resolve? Sheedys bold vision (refer to video at about 13:00 onwards) to me is the sort of vision and aggressive targets that I think is what's been missing from Essendon for 15 years.

A vision to be number 1 in the AFL again. Sheeds is aspiring to set the bar high once again at Essendon. How can the Essendon family respond, irrespective of the ASADA outcome?

For me it's about doing a lot of little things right: Fan engagement; commmunity work; measured,.evidence based innovation etc.

Generally not just boasting that we are Essendon and assuming that's enough.

Bingo. Peter Jackson did that and look where that got us.

I still get the sense that attitude hasn't completely disappeared, though in fairness I imagine there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and a lot of key people at the club are relatively new.

Just hope they are not too arrogant or blind to the fact that other clubs do a lot of things better than us and there is no shame in copying them, where appropriate.

The club needs to do everything it can to sustain its membership base, obviously, to show it's Always Striving. Perhaps an outline for the fanbase that demonstrates how it intends to strive over a certain period of time will go some way towards reaffirming the faith. What are the core values that the EFC upholds and how are they upheld? This needs to be succinct, promoted and demonstrated.

Yeah, the club needs more 'corporate speak'...

One of the biggest issues with the EFC in the last decade is that we've been to focused on the corporate crap instead of being a football club
...and good, strong clubs have strong structures that are aimed at achieving goals. I believe it was a lack of structure(read 'governance') that got us into strife in the first place. The footy dept that was supposed to oversee the supplements program was obviously not closely enough integrated with an overall club vision. When the club is part of a billion dollar industry and attracts the sponsorship of multi-million dollar global businesses it needs to focus on corporate management that involves the football department.

Gees it must have been a hard decision for him as he really believes in football growing in Sydney. I suppose he could be satisfied with the hands that GWS is in but still, must have been wrench.
