Round 12 (second weekend of the split fixture). And thank god this is a Friday night match; i'm sick of Sunday games.

BUT, why the hell is this being played at Etihad Stadium (Docklands)??

I'm planning forward with a demons mate and i'm stumped as to why this isn't at the G. Particularly frustrating for an MCC member like myself and Demons fans know they play the 'G better than Docklands.

The other two matches that round are Syd vs. Coll up in Sydney (they usually seem to play up there during the split round) and Freo vs. Geel over at Subi.

So why on earth can't we have it at the 'G????!!!!

I would rather play Melbourne at Docklands. I think it greatly enhances our chances of winning that one, no matter what happens between the two sides between now and then.

We play well at the MCG, but they play there more often and would be a more dangerous proposition. They haven't yet played at Docklands this year and won't until they play us there.

I havent done any research, so forgive me if I am wrong. But isnt the Soccer on at the MCG that week? Think its mid week.

i agree our chance are much better at Docklands but historically this clash should belond always at the 'G.

Demons make up 25% of the MCC
Dons make up 13% of the MCC

2 biggest clubs of the MCC. Should rightfully be played at the MCG.

Internationals are usually midweek as club (soccer clubs that is) matches take up the weekends

but you see up 3 games sometimes played at the G during a round. Friday night, then saturday and then sunday. shouldn't affect the ground at all.

Melbourne crowd numbers have been mediocre for many years now. I doubt the Friday Night clash at Docklands would be a sellout.

On a cold & wet Friday Night in mid-June, a Friday Night game between the two teams would only generate perhaps 30-35,000 at the MCG (and that is probably being generous).

At the Docklands on a Friday Night, in any conditions, with Essendon playing against a Melbourne based club, I would expect 40,000 and perhaps up to 45,000. Demons supporters notoriously snub the Docklands whenever their team is drawn to play there, so I'd expect the crowd to be 85-90% in our favour that night.

yes crowd numbers i agree with as well ... but it's the principal!

given our history we should be at the 'G :(

who is the Principal?

MCG Games for Essendon should ONLY include Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond and one of Geelong, Hawthorn or St Kilda

Why we're playing the Brisbane Lions there in August on a Saturday night is more beyond me than us playing Melbourne at the Dome. Perfect location and suitable venue for that game.

Maybe they plan to mow that night? :o

Well we did get 46k against Melbourne last year on a cold, wet day at the G and the year before we got 47k on a Friday night at the Dome against Melbourne which was a sellout.

If we're up and about come round 12 we'll sell it out on our own.

St Kilda fans dont turn up to the G in recent years. I wouldnt want our 1 of our few MCG home games wasted on them.

Remember playing them at the G only 3 years ago, we were coming off 15 straight losses while they were flying yet their support was non existent at the ground.

oh wow. that's a huge difference. but were we the away team at the dome last year and the home team the year before?

demon fans will always fill more seats at the 'G than at the dome.

but i agree with the saints comment. that should always be at the dome.

we don't play enough at the G these days for my liking. it is the greatest sporting arena in Australia by a mile, and i never look forward to going to a game at docklands like i do when i go the the G.
don't understand why there is no game there over the two weeks of the split round.
i agree that melbourne fans might actually turn up if it was at the G, considering most are MCC members.

Last year was at the MCG, 2007 was at the dome.

Both were Essendon HOME games.

I love the G for big events but the Dome is simply a better place to watch footy IMO. Closed roof in the middle of winter, sitting high and above the field-it's fantastic. It's also our home ground so, sorry to all you MCC members but I'd rather sit amongst 40 odd thousand Essendon supporters in that comfort than cater to a group that leaves quarter of the MCG empty for all those blockbusters (not that this will be, just saying). If you feel out of it, then get a Bomber membership.

As far as I can tell, some of you guys are complaining about playing our home games at our home ground?

Yeah but look closely - it's because they're MCC members and are whinging at not getting in.
