well the day is nearing bombers fans, and it won't hurt a bit :D

a thicker red sash...but i wonder whether playing st kilda will make such a huge difference.

how do you essendon supporters feel about the alternate strip??

I don't really care, it's still black with a red sash

I think it's a disgrace that we had too change, as it's very easy to see the difference between jumpers.

IF we did have to change i would have preferred they went for something more modern.

Yeah,
it's not to bad..looks a little weird..but it'll grow on me..
Thank god it's not every game! :P

I lost the link to that website that has the guernseys designs..
would anyone be able to post it up for me?

Thanks

Disapointed we had to change but the alternative guernsey could have been worse. I'm a big fan of the traditional guernsey, hell I still wear my cotton one to the footy, '94 vintage...

It's a stupid guernsey, and I'm unhappy that we're being forced to wear it. I really don't see the point.

Get with the times you clown. all of us would love to wear our 'traditional' guernsey at every game, but we cant. Thats life. Deal with it. If Man U and Liverpool etc can all change the colours of their uniforms, then why cant Essendon and Collingwood. Are they so much better than everyone else? No. Do something for the good of the comp and go for something that wont have the slightlest clash with Sainters.

When someone is for the alternative, out come the bullsh1t Man U/Liverpool comparisons? Just because they do it, why do we?

Interesting way of putting it and when you think about it, all they have done is barstardise the strip they are wanting to retain.

If you look at it from outside the square, why not stand firm and say we will never change our historical strip and run out in something totally different in the one or two games they would be required to wear it.

DST
:D

Because it proves how archaic the thinking is of Essendon and Collingwood and their fans on this issue.

Because if a sporting organisation older then Essendon, 100 times bigger then Essendon, and 100 times more powerful then Essendon are willing to wear an alternate strip, by comparison a small fry organization shouldn't be acting so pig headed.

Ah yes, by Manchester United you mean the green-and-yellow wearing Newton Heath, who later changed name and colours.

Right.

Personally I hope Essendon run out in their home strip and cop the fine.

Why? And half the teams change their guernsey for fun and profit constantly. Teams like St Kilda, who wore bright yellow for a sponsor, suddenly have this big deal about not wearing white ****ing stripes so they don't clash with us?

If Man U and Liverpool etc can all change the colours of their uniforms, then why cant Essendon and Collingwood.

Because those clubs are corporate ****ed up monstrosities with no sense of tradition. Why should the EPL be held up as some great bastion of the perfect sporting competition?

Are they so much better than everyone else? No.

We're not claiming we are. Just that change is unnecessary, and if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

How about this?

No clash. Yay.
Thanks to Mero and www.footyjumpers.com for the images.

Personally, I would have preferred a protest strip; pure white, with a black middle finger on the front.

Older, younger, more money, less money etc etc etc... It means nothing... If no one sticks to their guns, you have no tradition... That's what Ess and Coll are trying to preserve. Everything else is being changed for the good of the corporate dollar, let's leave the guernseys alone.

There's noting archaic about it otherwise by that logic all 'tradition' is archaic.

How does the logic demanding that clubs with a colour clash wear a distinctly different guernsey for away games - as happens in every other professional league worth its salt worldwide - demean tradition as a whole in any way?

Modernity and professionalism resulted in you plastering "3", "Puma" and "3 Mobile" all over your sacred cloth, didn't it? Where was the uproar there?

Arguing this issue with Essendon fans is like arguing with religious fundamentalists.

I've seriously heard them say with a completely straight face, "but we don't even clash with Richmond or Melbourne!"

You walk away with a migraine and wonder how the human race has survived as long as it has.

So if Collingwoods so tradational, why did it not stay at Victoria Park, and instead moved to the Lexus Centre?

Care to explain that one? You can't tell me that was not corporately motivated

They abandoned their traditional home ground to move to better facilities, and immediately bastardised the place by selling off the naming rights to it

Selective Tradionalism

While we're at it then, let's move all Essendon's games, including finals and the blockbusters (including anzac day) back to Windy Hill, i mean why let the Corporate fat cats cash in on the expanded seating at this ground and crwod pulling ability of the bombers and lets give Essendon their tradionatl home back :thumbsu:

It was so they could accomodate their members, unfortunately the smaller suburban grounds couldn't hold all the members, like weagles looking for a larger venue now. Though there is no point arguing about tradition with a supporter of a made up, corporate club, you don't even get a say in what happens with your club, how sad's that?
