I didn't say they were.
No I did. Just incase you already didn't know.

All I said was that Essendon appear to have quite a few similar types much like Hawthorn which is not too good for the team balance.
To be fair, I thought alot of the regular senior players were ordinary. McPhee had a shocker and so did Welsh. Most of the kids were good though. Sheedy's policy last year of playing kids for 1 quarter on and off clearly has not worked and it's best to play them for a full game or at least a full 3 quarters.

If I recall, no one at the Melbourne Footy club minded taking his 6 mill.

think you might be wrong there, might be because he never gave 6mil.

May have the exact amount wrong - but he bailed out Melb & by memory kicked a fair bit of his own hard earned into the club to pay out debts.

Just an ironic statement made by a foolish Melbourne supporter.

We cop ******** about the Clokes and Shaws but at least Jason and Ryhce have played some decent games. Reynolds and Watson, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, the only disaspointment was that wunderdud was not out their, still I think he was at a greyhound race filling in for the rabbit.

maybe the hawks did win from the Jacobs trade, look what the Dons used it on, Kepler 'Whitinalls bitch' Bradely. Yeah lance is samrt but he out ran Bradley. The Essedndon back line looks like utter crap.

Thats a bad comment, i actually thought Kepler beat Whitnall when he got moved onto him. Whitnall only got one goal on Bradley. Lance got most of his touches when playing on players that weren't key position.

Give our kids a break, one loss which was a bloody practise match and everyone's baggin them. Give em some time to get used to senior footy...

People say we're in trouble without our big guns in Lloyd, Hird, Rioli, the Johnson's etc... well no $hit any team would be in trouble without their big guns. That's what make em "big guns."

but we do have hird and we do have lloyd

not to mention jason and mark johnson,
come the real season ull see how good we actually are...
And there in lies your problem.... 1 guy has 1 year left in his career... the other guy relies on your slow midfield getting the ball down to him. You are struggling.

Most Pie fans can see problems with Bux and Burns on their last legs but not the Don fans, they seem to think that Wunderdud, reynolds and Jobe will be the second coming.

Makr Johnson = head case who has lost the plot and been found out
Jason Johnson = injury prone, slow midfielder
Dean Rioli= say no more

Wouldn't a player have to get injured a lot to be classified as 'injury prone'?

Reynolds shows nothing. Watson was good in the finals last year, so he's shown some promise. Don't know about Winderlich yet.

Nope, we don't have much coming through at the moment in terms of midfielders. We drafted this year to try and fix it but will have a hole.

A year ago - when Essendon were stuck on the bottom of the ladder with ZERO wins after two rounds - people were attacking us for a lack of depth. Look what happened...
At least wait until the season has begun before attacking a team of kids. God help us if Collingwood, West Coast, etc put a team of kids out against a near strength team and lost.

No.. but you have just proved the title of this thread as credible. You were missing Hird, Lloyd, and the Johnsons.... most clubs were missing that. We were missing about 8 players.... difference is the "borderline" players we have who missed out on games late last year were the Rowen Jones and co.... who come in and make it look like we have a full side. It's called DEPTH. Essendon don't have any. Most sides played just as many kids as Essendon did.

round 3 2004 the 1 guy who has one year left in his career won us the game the other guy who relies on our slow midfield getting the ball kicked 8

any team would have hird in their team right now ANY team

any team would have lloyd in their team right now ANY team

u gotta look at your own team before u start bagging others..get a forward line and a back line then u can start talking

But our depth players were also missing. Mark Alvey, Ty Zantuck, Ben Haynes and Ted Richards also didn't play. Those four aren't in our best 22, but certainly are when Hird, Lloyd, Johnson, Johnson and Rioli are missing. We also lost Rama before quarter time.

Carlton were fantastic, take nothing away from them. But if you are going to question Essendon's depth at least look at the full picture. Also take note that Solomon, Allan, Fletcher, McVeigh spent the entire last quarter on the bench.

hahah you dont get it do you.... you had a 8 goal head start that game.... and it took 8 goals from Matthew LLoyd who we had to play Trent "delisted" Carroll on because our entire backline were out injured.... and it then took about 60 possessions from James Hird to get you over the line by 6 points on your own home ground. Without those 2 players you would have lost by 10 goals. The 2 players you missed today. Get it now????? No depth.

1992 - we were told we had no depth... 1993 we won.
1998 - we were told we had no depth... 1999-2001 fairly dominant period
2005 - one dud practice game - possibly a year out of the 8... the world is going to end. Didums.

Maybe we are realising the penalties associated with finishing in the 8 year in year out. But we are 5wks out from the start of the season. Who knows what will happen.

That would be the same as me saying without Phil Matera, West Coast's leading goal scorer would have kicked just over 30 goals last season. We do have Hird, and we do have Lloyd. David Hille kicked two goals that night, 22 hitouts, 19 disposals and 7 marks. Peverill had near on 30 possies. Murphy had 20 plus and kicked two goals. Mark Mercuri kicked three goals. We had more than just two contributers that night.

If the penalties for finishing 8th every year are as bad as the penalties for finishing 9th every year, then you guys are well and truly stuffed!

We finished 8th in 1998??? Havent finished there since???

Saying that, I'd much prefer to make the finals and get a higher draft pick than consistently fail. Im sure most players would want that - unless you play for St Kilda.

Uhh what depth?

There youngsters are as bad as Adelaides

They only make it worse for themselves picking up crap like Kepler Bradley with pick 6 in the draft

Don't forget the masterful Jobe Watson.

You know you're struggling for young talent when you're pinning your hopes on the dud son of a former champ.
