Was in the States during the game v Port so didn't get to watch the game properly so just put on a replay.

Ethan Hughes caught my eye as someone that could surprise in 2016, maybe to eventually replace Ibbotson at half back. He looked like a likely type for me with minimum fanfare. For a young kid, showed a lot of poise with the ball and didn't get flustered playing his first game.

Will he get promoted onto the senior list?

For those that watch him regularly, what are his strengths and deficiencies?

Seems quite strong and athletic for his size and and can take a decent grab. reasonably new to footy and thus his disposal is not the best but looked to improve by the end of the year. Only seen a couple of Peel games but i am sure someone would have some more low down on him. I think he is worth at least keeping another year on the rookie list but can see him slot in to the half back role ala Ibbo as you mention

Kicking is his glaring weakness, but has improved substantially during the year. Sometimes his decision making is a little off, in that he doesn't choose an option commensurate with his skill level, but he improved in that area as well. Good mark and while he has played wing, is much better as a defender atm imo

Very good summary, improved as season went on but hitting a target early was pour.

Better than Brady Grey?
I thought grey was tough, but like Spurr he couldn't hit the side of a barn door, missed a simple target regularly. We need good users of the ball desperately, he isn't, but hopefully will improve. He did a very good job of keeping Wingard quiet, which isn't easy.

I really don't know how to gage him. He is raw with some untapped talent. During some peel games he went missing and other games hit plenty of it but didn't hit targets.

Imo Ross focuses so much on game plan and structures which is fine for best 22 but young raw players need skill development and I don't see it at all bar some ruck drills.

I'd like his and a few others get that grounding first. He came straight out of hockey to football at a late age.

Thanks Jedi.

Wrong thread for it but what are your thoughts on Apeness.

At training during some match sims looks good and intra club matches but at Peel he never imposed himself. He looks like a gentle giant. I'd like him to have a killer edge like the great full forwards of the game.

Could be a player but still a lot if work to be done.

Fair enough, I only watched the game once and he stood out quite clearly among a few others I thought. Not sure if it was because he was actually good or because he surprised me.

Maybe a bit of both. I just thought a few other guys like Weller and Grey looked far better with ball in hand.

I'm looking forward to seeing him further develop this season plus really hope Grey plays more AFL.
