even in his last 2years he was a fine player. He played up forward alot and used his footy smarts and ability to read the play to be a match breaker and set goals up. i remember one particular game against the pies where it was windy as hell and scores close at 3/4time, and he game out and kick 2or three goals and broke the match. The smart, truely great players can play a few years longer than others by using their footy smarts i.e Broderick, G.Williams, D.Jarman
Great Servant and as another said - a rare player i look back with much fondness

He had his moments up forward kicking 24 goals in his last 2 seasons combined and dishing off quite a few as well, but his form was getting rather pathcy. Good one week, went missing the next.

Yeah, maybe. But im sure we both can agree he was excellent player and person for the club. He worked at the club's office's as well - he organised alot of the functions involing the players going to schools and sports night and such. those days when himself knights and Bondy were fit and at their best, it was a rare happy time for this club - a real midfield

Definitely an excellent player.

Broderick, Free, Knights, Campbell. Had quite a formidable midfield ten years ago.

I think both Free and Bond really get forgotten. Hard tough leaders. Along with M.Gale as well. He was a tough cookie- could do we those 3 now i reckon

What was Gieshens problem with Broderick??

Apparently Gieshen didnt think much of Broderick for what reason I have no idea.

In their 4 years at the club between them, Walls and Gieschen set the RFC back 10 years.

In addition to the 20 years Spud has sent us back. Wouldn't be surprised to see our mob run out with big lamb-chop sideburns, handle bar moe's and lace-up jumpers in Round 1. At least then we'd know they've toughened up after the dud's departure.

To think Fremantle were a laughing stock when they traded effectively Ottens for Bond.

Id take Bonds determination and desire to play for the Tigers over Ottens - set me up financally for life or ill leave - attitude any day.

They must not have had beep tests for heart back when we drafted Ottens.

Im not going to get Obsessed with what he does at Geelong but I wont be unhappy if I hear Geelong complaining about the same thing.

PS - I remember Knights being asked 2 or 3 years ago on radio about whether the club was confident they could keep Ottens.

Knights seemed resigned to the fact he would be leaving saying in an exasperated tone, "We've done everything to make him welcome".

Not one to show his passion for playing for the Tiges, Ottens. Like Gaspar played his cards close to the chest.

********ing Mercenaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was shattered when we lost Bond, and was furious because he was the only guy on the list that year that i felt really did every single thing possible to avoid us losing. Its hard to believe that over all those years of us hanging onto over rated players too long - we finally broke the trend with Bond - His grit was what the Tigers are really meant to be about. Hope Fox footy show are mid 90's replay again soon, now i wanna watch him play - i still got the 95 final on tape, so maybe that one will do :)

Bond was another good player for us who probably wasn't the most talented but always put in a big effort of the field. The trade for Ottens was the right move though, Bond only had a couple of mediocre years at Freo, Ottens was a very good player at times for us and still had very big trade value which we exploited.

Oh, dont get me wrong, i understood and can see how it was a good decison to make, especailly for our club which had stuffed up many early picks, and got robbed of good picks by finishing 9th all the time. But Bond - it killed me. i could have handled anyone else but bond at that stage. I know he struggled at freo and injuries, but he was just such an inspiring player for us. truely was the soul of the the club. Tough, Gritty, Determined,Couragous.
