Researchers at the Univeristy of California at Irvine discovered that people who listened to 10 minutes of Mozart before taking an intelligence test scored higher than people who listened to ten minutes or relaxation instructions or for ten minutes sat in silence.

Alright, so I tried this thing the other day and pulled out some Mozart before an exam. I must say i did well, but I don't know how much i can contribute to the great man. But I think there is a bit of fact to this little thoery. apparently it has something to do with the beat being at your heart rate or something. But it does calm me down, so I'm going to keep using this little method.

Anyone got any tips that you can pass on during this exam period?

I was told by a Clairvoyant a few years back to dab a tiny bit of lavender oil under my nose (not too much because apparantly large doses make you emotional and you may burst into tears). So ever since then I've been doing it. Apparantly it is supposed to calm you and help you think clearly.

I found it better when I DIDN'T go near the books before exams. It distracted me to read over so much stuff right before the exam, so yeah, I didn't bother and I actually did really really well.

Other than that, I'd listen to the Beach Boys while studying, always relaxes me, I don't know if it would help anyone else though.

i_luv_westcoast's brilliant exam tips:

1. Turn up for exam
2. Make sure I have my lucky charm (a small plastic figurine of Cartman) placed in my right pocket above the wallet.
3. Pray to God
4. Place pens, pencils, rulers, erasers and calculators neatly on the top left hand corner of the desk
5. Start reading time
6. $hit myself when I see the questions and wish I had studied
7. Once again pray to God
8. Try and figure out the starting 18 of the Eagles next year
9. Having realised the eagles will suck next year, get depressed and start exam in the right mood
10. Write an absolute load of garbage which should not be passed by anyone
11. Get depressed thinking I have failed the exam
12. Find my results a few weeks later, and the majority of the time pass my exams.
13. For all those attending Uni next year, take it more seriously than me :)

Got my last exam tomorrow (Thursday).

My tips:

* Make sure you pay attention during the year.
- If you don't pay attention cram before the exam

* Don't stay up really late studying, cos if you do the likelyhood is that you won't remember the stuff you studied because you were too tired.

* Don't stress. That is the worst thing you can do.

* If you don't know the answer to a question leave it and come back, because for some strange reason you will think of the answer while doing another question.

Etc etc etc

Whats everyone doin' for schoolies?

When taking your geology exam, don't waste your time squirting acid on the desk.

I've got 3 more exams to go, and I'm in year 12 next year, but we're already discussing what we're doing for schoolies next year.
At the moment the plans are either go up to either Byron or Noosa. We'll have to book Byron ASAP, as apparently it's the most popular place for schoolies.

If i could give one piece of advice after countless exams through my academic life it would be:

Don't talk to anyone before an exam.

It does nothing more than distract you from your own study patterns and what you believe is important. Certainly don't talk to the class nerd ... because they've studied everything, when half what they studied is crap. Study the fundamentals and what you think is worth studying. It's an instinctive thing ... outside influences go a long way to making you stressed ... forcing you into unnessesary cramming.

Hope this helps.

Ahh schoolies....gotta love the way the make a truck load of money. I have no idea what Byron is like, but if you're coming up to QLD, the Gold coast is huge! Noosa is tiny in comparison, but it depends what you're after. I'd go to Noosa, becuase I absolutely love the place and I'm not really into the huge party places.

Got one more exam left on Friday! YAY! :)

My tip is study, but don't study to the point where you are beyond stressing and feel like you are gonna puke! :o :D
Its important to study in a well lit place otherwise you'll get headaches, and lets not forget the fact that it will totally ruin your eyes and most of all have SUGAR just before you go it...... its been proven to help you boost your energy levels and it'll allow you to finish the exam BEFORE you fall asleep on the table! :p

Sugar works OK for an energy hit, but only if the exam is shorter than the time it takes to metabolize it.

If the sugar rush is all gone before the end of the exam then it won't help you finish very well. You will get pretty sleepy by this stage.

Maybe take some chocolate with you to refuel. Is it allowed?

ok... i don't think u r allowed to bring in chocolate but my advice is eat a good breakfast or lunch or whateva meal comes b4 teh exam...however this doesn't really work 4 me...every day of teh week i eat a huge breakfast...exams come along and i can't even eat one piece of toast...
always go to teh toilet during an exam..there is nothing worse tahn sitting in an exam going...**** **** **** and needing to as well
on second thoughts there is something worse... having the most annoying and hated song u have ever heard in your head and starting to write the lyrics instead of an essay!!!
ok also it has been proven that the last thing u study the nigt before is what u will remember teh best coz u sleep on it...
ummm yeah i can't think of anything else right now so good luck everyone!!!

Bull****

You've heard about them. They're the ones who goof off all year, cram during swot vac and waltz into an exam without the slightest sign of stress. They always manage to scrape through with 70, 80, 85%. How do they do it?

Simple. They're Bull**** Artists. They hone their skills by coming up with wildly improbable and impossible concepts to start with, then try to convince friends and strangers of their truth by using stacks of equally fabricated facts. When the integrity of these facts are questioned, even more preposterous proofs are provided, based on even more outlandish facts. With time and experience, a true Bull**** Artist can lead the wobbly, fantastical train of reasoning right around back to the original fact, magically creating a rock solid collection of ideas impossible to disprove (and such was the The Bible written).

Using exactly the same technique, the Bull**** Artist uses fragments of remembered study material to extrapolate and answer the questions in pages and pages of utterly fabricated hyperbole.

And herein lies the secret of the Bull**** Artist in exams : because the original facts the Bull**** Artist started with were true and correct, so too, magically, the entire extended fabrication created in the exam turns out to be true and correct as well.

No-one knows why it is so.

Having 2 year 12 exams left, my main advice is don't panick.

Unfortunately the first time I did my English Exam (the 1st one) I panicked, and was so nervous (Barely got a wink of sleep the night before)

Ended up going in. Answering a few questions on some stupid books and poems. Reading an article. Answering questions, and going home. :p Don't stress, even if you do f*ck up, because you got your whole life in front of you.

Note: If you don't wanna be a dumbass like me disregard everything above.

2 More exams of yr 11 to go :)

The only exam i ever get nervous is, is the first one, after that....big deal, its only a sheet with writing ;)

My trick has been to get myself psyched up before every game, that usually results in me watchin the 97 and 98 GF's before every exam :)

1 TIP = DONT GO NEAR BIGFOOTY DURING EXAMS....look what its done to me :(
