I'm really excited about the coming season. I joined BigFooty prior to the 2009 season and I was pretty stoked - we had a lot of prospects and the season was looking to be interesting at the very least. Twenty-ten looks even better, and I know a lot of us feel that way. The addition of both Darren Jolly - one of the top 5 ruckman of the past 5 years - and Luke Ball - one of the best midfielders in the last Grand Final - has got to help. Predicted/hopeful improvement in Jack Anthony, Barham, Beams, Sidebottom, Harry O, Possum Eyes Toov, Caff, Cam Wood, Bradley Dickson, Heater and so many more gives a lot of hope to us.

But as Pies supporters, we know footy is a double-edged sword. Dick has already had surgery. Cloke has a bung knee. Our highest profile pick a while back, Josh Fraser, has arguably never reached his peak due to injuries (don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that he's been shoved into the No. 1 ruck role because we ain't never had nothin' better). Beams is constantly at the risk of being lured north.

So are we excited about 2010? Why? I know I am. But realistically, why are we?

We're excited because this is our premiership window. Our best chance to win a flag is in the next 2-3 years and if we don't, I'll consider it a failure. This is the best list we've had in years we actually have an elite ruckman!!!

I think 2011 might be our best chance, but I'm still excited about 2010. GO PIES!:thumbsu:

Played in a prelim final with 12 players, 22 or younger.

We will add Jolly, Ball, Pendles, N.Brown & Medders to that line-up, probably Josh Fraser & J-Mac.

Add possibles of Dick (later in year), Reid, Brown, Buckley and Blight and you see we may just have a "little bit" of a reason to get excited and expect improvement next year.

Ultimately you need luck with injuries/form/suspensions to win a flag, but I'd say with natural improvement we will be in the top 4 again, and that means Prelim weekend again, and this time we will have a few "new tricks" up our sleeves.

So am I excited, WELL **** YEAH I AM EXCITED.:):D:thumbsu:

Definitely seconding the Reid love. Had huge hopes for him and hope he gets a chance next season. Blight I've barely seen but he could be the agile HB Cox was meant to be. I always root for the guys getting a second chance (I barracked for both Brown and Corrie early on) so I hope Buckley shows a bit.

The thing we never bank on is the improvement or degeneration of other teams. And it'd be hard to do that - we'd have to weight up unbiased supporters' opinions on every player and every coach of every other team.

what position do all the new players that we picked up in the drafts play?
sorry bout the random q :)

I'm excited because for the first time in a long time we have a starting 22 which I'd consider matches the previous Grand Finalists. We addressed several key issues during the draft period and we have a fantastic development list as well. The reason you should be excited about 2010 is because it's going to be the next season we're in a Grand Final at the end of, win or not that is an exciting prospect.

Off the top of my head;

Ball - Inside Mid.
Sinclair - Outside Mid.
J.Thomas - Pure Mid.
Buckley - Outside Mid.

Rookies;

Carter - Key Back.
Hunter - Inside Mid.
McNamara - Ruck, KPF

this is why im excited. we dont have to worry bout our midfield for a while :thumbsu:
the only thing im worried about in 2010 is injurys (already lost dick for half the season) and this draw we got. it seems tough but not impossible. lets just say if we ge through all this and make top 4 this just means that cup might come too us at the end of september.

Hey guys just wanted to wish your club lots of luck, and hopefully it will be a Collingwood V Hawthorn Grandfinal. I want the Pies to have a sucessfull 2010 because your always up their but just miss out so good luck.

What is all the fuss about Ben Reid, never seen him do anything worth getting excited about

A 195cm CHB, who can move like the wind, isn't soft, can take a strong mark, yet can play as a "natural" defender.

Yeah, I don't get all the hype either.:p:p

Beams will definitely go back North. We need him to fall head over heels and knock up some Melbournian girl who is dead set on staying in Melbourne, in the next two years.

to be fair to Ben his senior appearances to date have shown him to be very young and a bit out of his depth at AFL level but one the things i'm anticipating in 2010 will be seeing a more seasoned player starting to show why he was a top 10 draft pick.

Why would Dayne be a "certainty" to return home.

He has settled in Melbourne fine according to all reports, he is a very stable young man, and he now has one of his best friends in Josh Thomas at the club.

If anything, I would say the only way Beams goes back to the GC or the Bearlions is if free agency comes in, and even then he would have to stay a pie for 5-6 years.

He will stay for a while, I'm pretty confident about that. (and hoping).

But having said all that, if he helps us win a flag, he can do what ever he wants, I'm not greedy, 2 flags will do.:):D

What do you mean by Pure Mid for J Thomas?

I mean he's not really an inside or outside mid, in that he has the speed of an outside mid but also the ability to play inside the packs.

He obviously has to put on weight, but I still can't believe he went so late in the draft.

Thanks for Clearing up, I think he Dropped because of Size, Lack of Endurance and I would not be Suprised how intrested the we where might of turned teams off;)

I'm excited about 2010 because our list is looking great, another preseason into the young players and a draw that will really test the team and improve it by playing the best more often.

On the other hand I am hesitant to get too excited due to :

Will we be more attacking team in 2010 to match it with best or will the 'MCG car park crabbing around the boundary' hold us back?

Will certain players continue to get games regardless of form and hold back younger more talented players?

Those are my main worries for 2010.

Either way we are a lot closer to our goal in 2010 then 2009 should be a great year.:thumbsu:

I would be shattered if Beamer went back home. Don't think it will happen though now with JT at the club all we need to do is persuade Beamer Jnr to leave the sh!t hole Brisbane and play for our magnificant club. Then Beamer won't go anywhere.

Personally I'm excited because 2010 is the beginning of what i think could be a Collingwood dynasty.

With the current draft concessions in place our list looks set for a long time at the top. Whilst the club maintains that it will win a premiership in the next 2 years and most of us believe that is possible, how good is it going to be in 5-odd years when Steele, Beamer, Reid, Blight, Thomas, Pendles, Heater, Dicky etc. (I could go on all day) are ripping it up.

This is the best list I've ever seen and we are set for a real premiership tilt.

Best mates? Are you sure you aren't overplaying this a bit? I heard mates, but then I also heard they just knew each other. I know that Thomas rang BEams to ask his experience beofre making his decision, but not sure about the best mate tag.
