Extra time in H & A rounds?

It just doesn't make sense to me that there are three different ways of treating the same circumstance, based on whether it's H&A, a final that isn't the GF, and then the granny

That'd be like having a different set of rules apply to pre season matches that don't then apply to the regular season
Mate we have this between rounds, let alone a whole season

Just no.

A draw in the season gives the sides playing two points. That may be the two points the side needs or loses that makes a difference. If they're not good enough in normal time then that is how it stands.

In finals a result is needed to advance to the next round. Re-playing a drawn game may actually disadvantage sides that then have to sit out another a week, hence the need for playing until a result is formed.
Spot on.

If a team wins in extra time those two extra points could be the difference between making finals or not.
By playing extra time to get the extra 2 points, the extra energy spent may cost the team the 4 points the following week

By playing extra time young players may gain more experience that will prove beneficial to them in winning future games

There are no draws in any of the finals, including the Grand Final now... so why are there draws in the H&A season?

Because in finals a result is needed before next weeks games can be played and scheduling a replay is just too difficult.

You dont need a result in home and away for the following weeks games to be played.

Exactly this.

Why should Hawkins be rewarded with a mulligans?

He missed, the scores are tied, game over.

There's no need whatsoever to complicate things.
Draws in H&A = the game is a draw and 2 points to each of the teams.
Draws in Finals = 2 5 minute halves. Winner goes on. Repeat if required.

The idea of doing rematches of whole games in finals is just silly. We should never see that again.
Likewise there is no reason whatsoever that a drawn result should not stay during H&A.

So you think there should be extra time for player development reasons?

Possibly the dumbest argument I have heard yet.
Lmao did you even read the post I was quoting? I was taking the piss, I'd suggest you work on your comprehension ability.

What odds Craig Hutchison will bring up extra time on FC this week?

It's always a favourite issue of his, probably because he can blab on about his pet topic: how footy needs to become more like US sports.

I'd like to see a panel of the television commentators review the drawn game and determine a winner based on whatever magic formula they use to pick everything else (rising star, AA team etc.)

What's the point of extra time. 2 points each is not a satisfactory outcome bilit apart from the theatre it's a fair one.

If nobody is good enough to win in normal time then why do they deserve extra time?

Extra time in finals is a necessity due to scheduling reasons. I dont even like the GF extra time scenario. Fortunately last time Lionel Ritches was available at short notice after Meatloaf injured his reputation in the first final.
