As much as I love Schuey, I reckon you´re right PC. That´s race fixing, plain and simple.
It shouldn´t be allowed to happen. People pay a lot of money to watch the race, and also on betting. It really is cheating.

It was always going to happen, but in all seriousness Schumacher, Ferrari and Barrichello should all be fined and have their race points taken away. F1 has to be the only sport in the world where you can constantly get away with fixing the end result of the race.
I remember when Coulthard moved over and let Hakkinen win in Australia 98 that the FIA said they would fine teams/drivers if they continued to do this. It seems Ferrari are too imtimidating for FIA to do this.
F**king ridiculous when a driver deserves to win but has to pull over for the 'good of the team'.

The person to blame for all this is Jean Todt,not the drivers.
Takuma Sato was lucky to escape serious injury in the accident with Heidfeld.

Its funny though, I remember back in 99 (I think) when Schuey broke his leg in that accident at Silverstone, Eddie Irvine had a real chance to win the driver title. Schumacher came back at Malaysia (which was the last race of the year) and tried to help Irvine to get the title. But amazingly, Schuey didn't do all he could to get Irvine the win, but as the race was getting out of reach, Hakkinen took the win, and all but clinching the title, but Schumacher did some of the best laps of the race, when it was too late.

I think people make the mistake that in F1 racing each car is an individual team. It's not.
Strategy plays a massive role - and part of that strategy is using two cars to acheive a desired result for the team. Remember, none of us are pumping over $200 million into the sport - Ferrari can say what they want because it is their team and they have their set goals.
Rubens was diplomatic - he signed his new contract, he knows he is the second driver. It wasnt suprising at all last night. If Rubens didnt agree with this, he would not have stayed with Ferrari.
Remember, in the past if the first driver crashed or broke down, he'd take the car of his teammate.
It's not new, and it's not suprising.
It is any different from when a teams #1 driver is in front, and the teams #2 driver is second and slows his lap time down to allow the first driver to keep extending his lead?
Remember, this is a team sport - not two individual drivers.
Is it different to a footy coach telling his forwards that whoever gets matched up with the oppositions star defender is to sacrifice his game and stay away from the action. Lead wide and often etc...something which happens often?
Its called sacrificing for the team - the team goals are more important than individual ones.

If you saw the story after the race on the costs of F1, then you'll realise that when a team budgets for $100million per season, then Barrichello taking the bump is small cookies.
By the way, did Montoya's car have the in-car camera during this race? He has one every race, so if he did, why didn't they show Heidfeld come screaming in front of him into Sato? Or was it too graphic?

Beautifully put mongrelpunt !!! I think the on board footage may have been predominantly in Brown & White !!!
As for the people who refer to last night's team orders as "race fixing" you will find that the majority of them aren't avid grand prix watchers, and lack the understanding of team racing, team goals and team tactics, as opposed to individual results and (lol)...sports betting. As Smokin rightly states, it is nothing new, and dates all the way back to F1's inception. (has everybody suddenly forgotten the Coulthard & Hakkinen result in Melb 1998 ??? and that was the 1st race of the season !!!)
This race has at least put some interest in an otherwise boring start to the 2002 season to date. (because of the lack of overtaking and genuine racing on the track so far)

F1 is motor racing - very much a team/equipment environment. If you think F1 is simply the drivers against each other you are seriously mistaken.
call it what you like....
so long as you do not then hold up the F1 Champion as a great driver.
