FOOTBALL punditry is a strange business. Just six months ago, after a third premiership in five years, Geelong was hailed as arguably the greatest team of the modern era. Now, without having played a game since, the Cats, in flag terms, are awfully short on admirers.

Great article by Rohan Connolly in The Age, almost gave me goosebumps! Pretty close to how we will line up I think.

Excellent article really gives a glimpse at what our team might look like come 2014.

Back to back this year to prove everyone wrong again would be fantastic. :thumbsu:

I will more than happily take all the hype and fluff pieces about all the other in form clubs thru the preseason where they list us as done, or on the coal face of being done....

Then almost as unassumingly as Geelong moves along and goes about its business along comes an article like this....

just perfect. Low key - upbeat but not gloating and depth personified....

Go Catters...

finally!................we get a journalist who writes exactly what those who follow the club wanted to read :thumbsu:

Fantastic article and if only we get another Selwood, Chapman and Bartel coming through within the next 5 years, we aren't going to slide.

interesting article, but of the 2014 team they listed, you'd have to say there's still big question marks over smedts, gillies, hunt, guthrie, brown and motlop. all have potential, but none have proven it at senior level as yet. and you could still say there are question marks over hawkins (can he kick well enough to really hold down a key forward post?), menzel (will he come back strongly from his injury?), and west (can he hold first ruck?)

i think our planning for ongoing success has been as good as it can be, and it's interesting hearing talk so openly about a few things, but i think it's hard to see us seriously challenging for top 4 in 2014 unless 6 of the 8 guys i've listed above can develop into seriously good players

having said that, i like our chances in 2 years time if james kelly is apparently being kept out of the best 18 :)
