I guess they have to weigh up letting Steam take 30% vs. the development, maintenance, and running costs of their own platform. Not to mention managing the shitfest that is fickle gamers crying over minor thing. With Fallout 76 being an online only game it's probably easier to bring the launcher in-house because they'll already be throwing money at servers.

Looking at the popularity of Fortnite and WoW, which both run off their own launcher, the fact people see this is a massive issue is both amusing and sad. I'm not a fan of working with multiple launchers but it's not the end of the world.

Exactly this I think it's more just the crybabies on reddit trying to justify their decision to hate the game. The average fallout fan won't give a shit and I won't be able to hear the crying from inside my power armour helmet :P

Apparently steam take 30% of sales is it any wonder companies want their own launcher, essentially giving away 30% for nothing.

If more companies did this then Valve might start actually making games again

That’s correct on the 30%. Valve actually charges $100US to publish a game too but refund it once you make $100US in sales... maybe Bethesda don’t think they’ll see their whopping $100 back? :D

No surprise though after seeing Ubisoft’s investor slides last year that most of the big publishers are going this way. There is also a massive royalty to Sony and Microsoft to have a game physically produced to be sold in stores. They make so much more coin doing it this way.

Personally I don’t care about a separate launcher except for the fact that just about every major publisher has their own and unless I change their settings (so hard, I know) they are in my RAMz, eating my memoryz.

Massive info dump from Quake con.

Most interesting part was how the SPECIAL stats work. There is a card system in place that seems to replace perks.

Also each stats is designed around combat and/or group combat. For example charisma helps you share your perks with other group members and intelligence helps you with scrapping, crafting and bartering.

It seems single players will have large parts of the SPECIAL dynamic rendered pretty useless.

Some more info from Quake Con:
- Anyone that chooses to 'Gank/Grief' someone will have their damage reduced so you have the chance to fight back.

- if they do kill you they become wanted and have a bounty.

- There will be a pacifist flag option that prevents people from jumping into your gunfire when youre fighting a monster.

- You will be able to ignore and block people at will for a session.

Seems alot of PVP'ers are peeved on social media saying this will ruin it for them.

Unless you plan on PVP'ing as a dickhead I don't see how that will affect you

Also the perk cards, the high level Charisma perks seem to be the only ones really focused on being in a team. Mysterious Stranger still a must have be plenty of rage quits when you have a bloke beat in PVP only to have a bloke in a trenchcoat one shot you :P

From watching the video from Quakecon seems that only Charisma is designed for group play the other 6 will still function pretty much how they have in previous FO games. Which makes sense since no NPC's they needed Charisma to do something

The perk cards have points values between 1 and 5, if you have 6 Str points then you can have a 5 point str perk and a 1 point or 3 2 point cards depending on points available.

Considering you can swap cards out you can prob sub in Charisma cards when playing in a team and make your team to min max.

Strength is a measure of your raw physical power. It affects how much you can carry and the damage of all melee effects.
Perception affects your awareness of nearby enemies, your ability to detect stealthy movement, and your weapon accuracy in V.A.T.S.
Endurance is a measure of your overall physical fitness. It affects your total Health, the Action Point drain from sprinting, and your resistance to disease.
Charisma is your ability to lead and help others. It allows you to share higher point Perk Cards and also effects your rewards from Group Missions and prices when you barter.
Intelligence is a measure of your overall mental acuity, and affects your ability to hack terminals, the condition and durability of items that you craft, and the return you get from scrapping
Agility is a measure of your overall finesse and reflexes. It affects the number of Action Points in V.A.T.S. and your ability to sneak.
Luck is a measure of your general good fortune, and affects the recharge rate of Critical Hits as well as the condition and durability of items that you loot.

I think it is more the fact that players will not be able to see those who have the pacifist flag and can block those who just want to go around and shoot people rather than team up and build a decent settlement and trade.

What's the issue there, be plenty of servers for those that want to shoot people. You can't force everyone to play how you want to play.

I personally don't see an issue, but you have the typical campaigners who want to just be 'see people, kill people' who are devoted to games like CoD. I reckon they should just have PvE servers and PvP servers.

the perk cards are pretty informative, without having spent to much time reading up on 76. weapon condition is a thing again, diseases more like elder scrolls, rad mutations more common, thirst and hunger integral to the game rather than a survival mode, rads will be more of a threat, hacking skill. 4 perk cards specifically for alcohol means it's less clutter or what you lug around to sell.

wonder if the way they're trying to make everyone happy will end up half-assing a lot of aspects and disappoint a lot of people.

the word that comes to my mind is still half baked. feels like a half baked fallout game, a half baked survival game, particularly with the route of preemptive overcorrection of 'griefing'

Got the PC beta yesterday, even though I think ill grab it further down the line and cancel it, I switched pre-order to PC as I need to actually start justifying the money I spent on my rig :P

I got my code from EB and registered on the Bethesda website and now it just says to wait for further instructions.

Same here, I had thought that there was a small group that have access in sep and then the general rollout in oct.
been back on fallout 4 for the last month and getting back into the groove
