A young Crows supporter has been discovered deep in the highlands of the Solomon Islands.

A boy wearing Crows football shorts emerged from an isolated village to greet Bombardier Ken Tunney from the 16 Air Defence Regiment of the Australian Defence Force.

The small boy, who struggled to fit into the adult sized shorts, had pulled the drawstring tight and was holding them up with the drawstring over his neck.

He stood out from a community with no clothing, power or infrastructure.

“I couldn’t believe we were walking through the jungle and we bumped into a child wearing Crows shorts – I just had to take a photo even though I'm a Port supporter!” Tunney said.

Tunney, from Woodside Barracks in South Australia, had been walking with troops in the dense jungle for over three days before arriving at the village.

I just hope that the Port Adelaide supporter thanked the young Solomon Island Crows fan for rescuing them from the dense jungle after being lost for 3 days. :D :D

Like MD said The force is strong in that one. :thumbsu:

News takes a while to get over there. He's probably a massive Paul Rouvray fan. Hopefully he'll have grown into his shorts by the time he hears about our flags.

Wow, it must sure be a slow news day.

The story isn't remarkable at all. Lots of second hand clothing from Australia finds its way to our Pacific neighbours after its life in Oz. In fact the vast majority of clothes worn in the Solomons and nearby places is second hand.

When I worked in Vanuatu I saw guys wearing t-shirts with Bayswater sports and social club, and Kalamunda hotel on them (Perth suburbs). These guys have no idea where these places are and of course have never visited them.

I went to a beach BBQ with the local Customs guys, and one of them was wearing a 'mull up' t-shirt. He had no idea what that meant, but it gave us all a bit of a laugh, including him, because of his profession. :D

I just came back from Vanuatu and saw a bloke on the way to Mele, in the middle of nowhere basically, wearing a long sleeve crows guernsey.

Macca, Olsem wantem? Were you headed for Mele Cascades?

Which Islands did you go to, just Efate or some of the others? There isn't a lot on Efate, but that's where all of the cruise ships stop.

On Pentecost there is the Land diving;
Tanna the volcano & John Frum tribe; and
Malekula is beautiful, and has the small nambas tribe.

That volcano, Mt Yasur, is still one of the most awesome places I've visited. To stand on the rim of an active volcano when the lava is exploding around you gets the adrenaline pumping!

Mi oraet tank yu tumas!

Yeah was on the way to the Cascades. ABsolutely the most gorgeous place ive seen in person. Took some great photos. Was an awesome hike with a great reward. The rock pools were very refreshing.

Stayed on Iririki Island for 7 nights in one of the waterfront fares. Great resort, friendly people, outstanding landscape and scenery. Paradise. Nice snorkelling on the other side as well.

Spent two nights on Tanna solely for the volcano. Awe-inspiring. The drive there was a struggle. 2 1/2 hours from White Grass. Bumpiest, rockiest drive ive ever been on. Had a bit of a scary experience. We were on the right hand side of the volcano, the big crater did one of its massive explosions, this time it went in our direction, most of it fell well short but one big piece flew up in the air, ended up going over our heads and landed 10 metres behind us. Twas quite scary and that spooked quite a lot of people that were there. My wife tripped over trying to get out the way of it and sprained her ankle.

Awesome experience though. Would recommend seeing that to anybody. Just the sheer power of it, the noise of the explosions and the sight of the lava going everywhere is something i wont forget. Got some great video of it as well.

Did the cascades, the volcano, a sunset cruise around the harbour, went snorkelling, kayaked around Irirki and the harbour, went parasailing, did a traditional Melenesian feast out in Mele.

Will definately go back again. Want to check out Santo and the diving sites around there.

Don't forget the land diving on Pentecost. It isn't cheap, and there is no 5 star accommodation there, but it is pretty wicked.

A Kiwi got the idea for bunji jumping after seeing it.

The President Coolidge is a great dive in Santo. I'm not a diver but have heard it is great.

Yeah I saw something about that land diving. Im into skydiving but not overly keen on bungee jumping type things where you get the big jolt.

Yeah everything ive read about diving in Vanuatu has mentioned the Coolidge. Apparently its still in quite pristine condition considering the amount of time its been down there ie. everything being intact etc.

The land diving is strictly spectator only! No way would you do it.

The Queen went to watch it and one of the divers smashed his head and was killed right in front of her.

They just carted him off and the whole thing continued.....

Haha, I love how he ties the draw strings behind his neck. That's brilliant.
