Imagine: the AFL disbands there will be a new competition with only seven eight state clubs. All players are available in a draft. You are a recruiter for one of the new teams.

Who would you pick for your new club. What would your draft order be, considering things as diverse as player skill, character, leadership etc. Let's pretend age and injury dont matte and focus on 2011 as the time the team will play.

Here is my list in order:

Key Forwards:

Nick Riewoldt
Matthew Pavlich
Jonathon Brown
Barry Hall
Josh Kennedy

Small Forwards:

Paul Chapman
Steve Johnson

Mids:

Chris Judd
Gary Ablett
Brendan Goddard

Excluding age and injury, Jonathan Brown would be my first picked, and by a fair bit. Lake and Chapman would probably be my next two along with Sandilands and Pavlich. Throw in Judd, Ablett, Swan and Hayes and you have a pretty good team.

Assuming they're fit (in order of how I would pick them to build a side that would be both successful now and in the future):

1. Aaron Sandilands
2. Joel Selwood
3. Nick Riewoldt/Brown/Pav
4. Gary Ablett
5. Nic Naitanui
6. Brian Lake
7. Bryce Gibbs
8. Matthew Pavlich/Brown/Roo
9. Luke Hodge
10. Cyril Rioli
11. Brendon Goddard
12. Paul Chapman
13. Tom Scully
14. Dustin Martin
15. James Frawley
16. Chris Judd
17. Matthew Boyd
18. Paul Duffield
19. Nick Malceski
20. Sam Gilbert
21. Stephen Milne
22. Jarryd Roughead

B: Sam Gilbert - Brian Lake - Paul Duffield
HB: Luke Hodge - James Frawley - Nick Malceski
C: Bryce Gibbs - Matthew Boyd - Joel Selwood
HF: Paul Chapman - Nick Riewoldt - Brendon Goddard
F: Stephen Milne - Matthew Pavlich - Cyril Rioli
Foll: Aaron Sandilands - Chris Judd - Gary Ablett
Int: Nic Naitanui, Jarryd Roughead, Jack Trengove, Dustin Martin.
